Most friendly and helpful staff in all of the places we stayed in Italy. The hotel, although not new, was kept very clean. The showers were interesting due to the fact that the shower head was located in a corner of the stall, making it difficult to get under. The location is only a few blocks from all of the sights, shopping and retail, and train station in Florence. A short walk to everything.

Hotel Gioia was very nice and comfortable, the room and the bathroom were a good size and having the lift helped as well with our heavy bags. Good location close to the train station and Duomo and Academia. Only thing that wasnt the greatest was the breakfast compared to other european hotels i have stayed in but overall would definately recommend and would stay here again.

The hotel staff were very jovial, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was adequate.Location was great, close to train station and most of the main attractions. The room faced the street, but we didn't hear any traffic noise. The bed was comfortable and there was adequate closet and drawer space. The shower in our room was very very small. All in all a very good stay.

I had a excellent stay at Hotel Gioia. Given it's location in bustling and condensed Firenze center city, it was an unpretentious yet comfortable place. The street side room was a bit noisy but an acceptable trade off to have a "window on the city". The staff was very gracious and helpful. I would stay here again...

The two best things about Hotel Gioia are the staff and the location. We spent two rainy days in Florence but the location and the staff allowed us to follow our trip plan without interuption or delay. They provided directions and even supplied umbrellas to get us to our destinations within the city. Close to museums and many fine restaurants. Highly reccomended!

I stayed with my wife at the hotel for seven days and met up with two others travelling from Austrailia. It was very good value for money and really central, very clean and welcoming. My wife was very fond of Pasqualia the morning waiter who was charming. We would recommend this venue to all types of groups but especially for families. We will stay again next year.

Rooms big but not nice. Musty, noisy (floor squeaks, etc)and not comfortable. Very hot in Florence at the time and their air conditioning was not up to the challenge. Food poor. I was disappointed and moved to another hotel the next day. This is a decent choice for a cheap hotel, but not cheap enough to justify it.

Hotel Gioia was marvelous! The people at the front desk were exceptionally helpful and freindly. I would recommend this hotel highly to any travelers. We stayed in two triple rooms and the rooms were spacious and comfortable and clean.

This hotel had a really friendly gentleman working at the front desk. He was welcoming, and helpful with all our traveling questions. The hotel was the perfect location...it was walking distance to the Academia museum, as well as a huge street market. We also were walking distance to the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

I'm a person who tries hard to find a cheap hotel but with great quality and this hotel is exactly that. The rooms are a bit small, but I enjoyed being near the center of the city. The hotel is located betweeen David and the Duomo! The staff were VERY pleasant and spoke english when I spoke english and they humored me when I spoke my broken italian! I enjoyed it.

Hotel was very quiet, good area walking distance from main sights, Pasqual warmed to us eventually, I would say equivalent of a 2 star in the UK stayed 3 nights bed and breakfast. Five ladies who enjoy a city break.

Top central location. Fair price. Quiet room.
Absolut competent and friendly service. They helped in all aspects. We will for sure go again. They even provide a garage service where the driver picks up the car.

All I can say is wow. Florence is absolutely beautiful and it was an added bonus to stay at such a nice place with such nice people. It felt more like we were staying with friends than at a hotel. Everyone was very accommodating whether it was helping us with a few needed Italian words or directing us to some great restaurants. Every morning and evening we were greeted with a cheerful staff. Visiting a city for the first time and learning how to get around we never felt alone which helped in our wonderful adventure. We even enjoyed a night cap with the owner. A very pleasant way to call it a night and in the meantime picked up a few tips about the city. We would def absolutely return to this hotel when we visit again. The location was superb and everyone was fabulous.

My husband and I spent 3 days in Florence and the Hotel Gioa was a pleasant surprise. The location was excellent and we were easily able to walk to all the churches and museums. The hotel was spotless and we had a back room that was very quiet. The staff was friendly, courteous, and very patiently answered all our questions. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Florence and a I would stay there again given the opportunity.

Very accommodating guy at reception. We have been there twice already and will be back.
Room 32 on first floor is big and has double room. Big bathroom. Very convenient.

Great location. We were within walking distance to many of the major sites. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the lift was great for the luggage and tired legs. We would definitely stay again, but would request a room away from the street.

The room was very clean, spacious, and brightly lit. The hotel is on Via Cavour, what many think of as THE main street in Florence (though only 2 lanes wide), very safe, close to all famous parts of the City. The staff is very friendly and helpful and available 24/7. My 5-day stay was very pleasant. And the price is very reasonable.

We spent three nights at the Gioia. The staff were very friendly and helpful (and spoke perfect English). The hotel has a reserved parking space in front to allow the loading and unloading of luggage from cars--which was extremely helpful. Once we were comfortably checked in, the staff directed us to local parking. We booked a triple room. At first we were given a room on a newly acquired floor. Unfortunately, we noticed a foul odor in the room. However, when we complained to the front desk, they graciously moved us to another room. That room was spacious and comfortable and the bathroom very clean. Breakfast was good (and again the staff were fantastic, including the gentleman who brought us our coffee). And the location can't be beat. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Gioia.

The hotel is located on the main city
street, via Cavour, just outside
the "old city". Via Cavour is really
a continuation of via Calzaioli,
which connects Plaza della Signoria
to Plaza del Duomo. Five minutes of
relaxed walk from the hotel along via
Cavour take you straight to Plaza del
Duomo and the tourist quarter. The
hotel is also close (five min walk)
to such attractions as the Medici
chapel and Savonarolla’s monastery.
The hotel is not far from the train
station either. It took me 20 minutes
to get there on foot with my
suitcase. I could have taken a bus
though: via Cavour is served by many
buses. A taxi is an option too. The
hotel is easy find by its shop-sign.
The area is as safe as it could be.
Via Cavour is a real High Street,
full of people and traffic. If your
room faces the street, it can
possibly be noisy in there, but I had
a room facing the inner yard
(indicate your preferences when you
book!) and it was very quiet.
The room was fully equipped with an
air-conditioner (a must-have in the
summer), a fridge with a mini-bar, a
TV, and a safe. The bathroom was
perfectly clean with all the
equipment in perfect working order.
The staff was very helpful. When I
arrived, they helped me with my bags
and immediately provided me with a
map. They never failed to serve me
(and never complained!) when I was
late for breakfast -- my nasty habit.
However they were most helpful in the
following incident. As I was leaving
the hotel, I forgot to take the
memory card for my camera out of the
safe. I phoned the hotel from the
train, and they mailed the card to my
address in London at no extra charge.
To sum up, I believe that the hotel
is a great value for money and highly
recommend it. Enjoy your time in
Florence!

Hotel was exactly as advertised. All staff spoke english and were always helpful. The room was a bit small for us Americans but the was impeccably clean with a good strong shower. Great location, close to all but far enough down a street so as to be quiet at night. Would use again.

I wasn't that impressed with this hotel. My room was very small and a bit depressing. It had everything I needed, but the smell of stale cigarette smoke was very off putting. The breakfast was horrible, just croissants and stale rolls, no cereal or fruit. I definitely wouldn't stay in this hotel again.

Location of this small charming hotel is great, within walking distance to SM Novella and Duomo. We were tired and decided to take a taxi to the hotel upon arrival at the train station which cost us about EUR8.
We got a nice quiet (and spacious) room that opens into a big shared terrace which is very pleasant in the mornings. Room was clean and everything worked. I arrived without the right adapter for the power socket and the staff helped by lending me a suitable one although I didn't speak any Italian and he didn't speak any English.
Bathroom was very spacious and a good shower curtain kept the rest of the bathroom dry.
Breakfast was on the simple side, but ask for a cappucino and the staff will fix one, gratuito, for you.
Overall, a very pleasant stay

We felt genuinely welcomed and taken care of. We needed a doctor and the proprietor was a huge help. The room and bathroom were spotless. Location-wise we were only blocks from everything we wanted to see most. It was our favorite stay by far.

Well, the hotel is quiet, very centrally located, but my room was pretty small and my bathroom was tiny. I was almost never in the room except to sleep- so this was ok. The front desk staff all spoke English well and helped get me cabs to airport and to organize reservations for the Uffizi, etc. Overall, they were very nice. One thing- not bad at all- but just to warn people if they want 'fancy' is that you are getting a clean, quiet, place to sleep, but it's very plain and very plainly decorated etc. If you're going to be out touring all day, great- but don't expect marble sinks and spa treatments, etc. Overall I got what I paid for.

I really enjoyed staying at GIOIA hotel. It is very close to Duomo (2 blocks). The staff was very friendly and helpful. I asked for a room to the back of the hotel in order to be quiet. The breakfast was simple. The price was high (100 euros per night, end of April 2005). I recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay in Florence.

People at the front desk are always smilling, they were very helpfull with providing directions to whichever questions we asked for. Location is perfect, just a few minutes away from every interesting place to visit.
Just a suggestion for those taking digital photos, DO NOT go to the photo store a few steps to the right from hotel's front door. They are extremely expensive for a simple service as downloading the photos to a CD. No other place in Europe charged me more than Euros 5,- and those people charged me Euros 10,- arguing they are 'proffesionals', (the job they did is very unprofessional)...
I recommend this hotel.
The hotel was great

Breakfast was adequete, all arrangements were as advertised, They were even able to get us advance booking for Uffizi and Academia, thereby letting us bypass long long lines. The only problem is that the location of hotel and directions to it were very poor, it took us over an hour to get to the hotel. The location is excellent and we could walk to everywhere

Gioia was a great place to stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. When we arrived we left the train station and were walking down a street looking at our map of the city and a kind gentlemen approached us and asked which hotel we were looking for. We indicated the Gioia and he said, "That's my hotel!" Then he directed us there (we were very close to the hotel). The room was very nice and it was a great value for the money. Also a great location. We would definitely stay there again.

Charming small hotel within very easy access to Duomo, station and Piazza della Signoria. Very professional, friendly staff. Although on a main road, the double glazing was excellent and the room very quiet. The bathroom was fully tiled and very unusual for Italy FLUFFY TOWELS!! Breakfast was fresh and plentiful( breadrolls, croissants, jam, pate and cheese spread) Room was remarkabley big by Italian standards. Good value for money. Check out the friendly bar next to hotel - excellent measures! We will definitely return and have already recommended to friends.

Located within 5 mins of St Mark's Square, yet located in a very quiet area. It is a good base from which to visit Venice. Rooms and bathrooms are clean.
As with much of Venice, it can be tricky to find the place first time around, especially if you are not used to Venetian street maps. So I would recommend ringing ahead for detailed directions, and also get a map as soon as you arrive in Venice.

Very nice place, right in the center of everything. The only possible problem is that our room had several large windows facing right onto Via Cavour, and it was pretty loud all night long. Otherwise, everything was great.
