it is a lovely hotel, spacious and clean, with lovely garden which is a haven in a crowded city after long walks. the location is 'off centre' but still close enough (10 minutes walk to the main piazzas)with grood restaurants nearby ('academia' in no 7 st marks square was a real find!)
breakfast is adequate if boring, staff not unfriendly but don't expect them bursting into song or going out of their way to make you feel really welcome.
I don't know any other hotel to compare the royal with,it being our first time in florence, but compared to other hotels we stayed in europe, this is not worth 130 euros a night. I would like more facilities for my money.

Typical hotel for Firenze. Not very clean, small rooms, etc. The staff was nice and the breakfast was good. It has conveniant and safe parking for a charge. The location is my favorite: Piazza Independenza is a quick walk to all sights.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. A nice family atmosphere with spacious rooms and very nice breakfast. A short walk to restaurants, shopping and great sights of Florence in addition to side trips to Pisa, Lucca and more. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is conveniently located near the main train station and close to the main shopping areas.
The hotel is not bad seen externally. It has a very attractive and large reception and bar area and very nice breakfast room. The breakfast was, also, excellent.
We were just given a crappy room for 3 people and it was way over-priced for Milan at that time of year. The hotel was nearly empty and they just crammed a cot into a double room.
The air-conditioning was terrible and, apparently because of a nearby highway or main avenue (couldn't really tell), it was noisy and so you couldn't really leave the window open.
The furniture was attractive 2nd empire-like stuff and the bathroom (weirdly) was large and beautiful. I have a feeling there may have been much better rooms.
The reception and service when we arrived in the evening bordered on the appalling. I think the guy thought he was doing us a favor. We didn't even bother asking for any real help.
The next morning, it was like a literal day and night. The reception and service was awesome. Who knows, maybe the realized we weren't just some slumming boorish Ami's and tried to make up for giving us such a crappy room.
On the whole, the place is a gamble. Maybe they'll give you a good room and service, maybe they won't. Too bad. With a little better price management and more welcoming approach, it could be good value.

We came to see Italy's masterpieces, and we did! Truly magnificent!
A bit of advice--if you don't speak Italian, you don't get much help with questions, directions, miscellaneous information. Learn as much of the lanuage as you can!

This is a nice hotel. Living in the property is like staying at a royal house. It has a big front yard, paintings hanging on the walls of the hallway, clean rooms and quite surrounding. The Italian-style backyard garden is spacious and pleasent, great for talking a walk and breathing some fresh air after breakfast. Clean breakfast table with light blue cashmere covers. The only drawback is you have to walk blocks more to get to the city center. But it didn't bothered me that much. I enjoyed my stay.

A lovely, comfortable hotel with a rather old fashioned grandeur. Sitting in the rear garden provided a haven of tranquility, whilst the grounds in front of the hotel cut the rooms of from traffic and street noise. An impressive breakfast. Rather like staying in a rather grand country house, away from the noise of the city.

The hotel is very decent, nice garden, large parking (at an additional price though). Easy to find from the airport (some 20 mins drive). The surraounding is OK but it was hard to find a place to eat close by, as well as for any walk to the "attractions" you have to go via St Lorenzo which is not always agreable. Overall - nice, clean, 15 mins to the river, good and enjoyable stay.

Hotel was very nice, especially for the price. Staff was very helpful. A bit of a walk to the center of Florence, but manageable. Street noise loud if windows open. Continental breakfast could use some variety

Nice hotel - beautiful furnishings.
A little expensive, but nice and quiet.
Good location - very convenient to almost everything.
Somewhat grasping to charge 2 euros a day for the room safe key.
Overall- worth the money.

This is an enchanting hotel. You are in the city and yet when you are in the hotel, it feels like you're in a villa outside the city.
The period building and the gardens feel like you're in a Borghese surroundings. It was my retreat when I wanted to get away from the crowds. I wouldn't stay anywhere else while in Florence. I am so lucky that I found it on my own on the internet. I highly recommend it.

Talk about landing on your feet. With all the talk of the noisyness of the centre and high prices, this place is an reasonable priced oasis. The staff are welcoming, the hotel stunning and location very central. Will definately book here if ever a return to florenece

Location was great. Prices were comparable. Spacious, quiet room. No internet as was indicated on website and there was an extra charge to use the pool. The breakfast was adequate. I would certainly stay at the Hotel Royal again and would recommend it to others.

The hotel was very clean and the room was big. They only have two rooms with a balcony, other wise you get a room with a tiny tiny window that opens, tv is about a 12". The location is great, only a couple of blocks to the centre of florence, price is good, and having being able to park at the hotel was a bonus, even if they charged 20 euros a night.

Royal is a gorgeous haven in the middle of Florence. We enjoyed the room, the tub, and would have very much liked to swim, had it been warm enough. That said, the desk staff (THREE different people!!) were rude, and when I asked for a knife to cut food with, I was told that I could not have one because the management frowned upon eating in the rooms. The breakfast food is normal, but the coffee comes from a machine, which was a shame with a beautiful espresso machine in the very next room. We would go back, but would hope that the staff would be kinder.

I loved my stay here. In my opinion I received 4-star service for a 2-star price. The staff were friendly and helpful, the location was good, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable. I had absolutely no complaints and definitely recommend it. Even the shower was good, which is hard to find in Italy!

It's a good hotel if you won't to spend a lot of money staing in florence. With private car park as quite nobody else in town, it's easy to reach from Fortezza da Basso following Fiesole. Maybe the first street light on tha right and then the first on the left.

An excellent building, potentially a great hotel, but unfortunately ruined by the monkeys who work in it. Having caught up in the rain on the way to the hotel, we arrived damp and cold, and yet we had to wait for about five minutes before we were acknowledged let alone served whilst the receptionist and a cleaner were in some deep discussion. Although he did not appear to be busy he could not even complete the registration there and then. We had to leave our passports behind. The room was spacious but does not appear to be spotlessly clean, as any guest would expect. Also, the walls were bare and unwelcoming. How much does it cost to put a few pictures up? We met some more chimps at breakfast time. Is it that difficult to force a smile or return a responds when the guest greet them? What a grumpy bunch! You would meet more evolved primates at McD’s. I had been to a great number of hotels, fair enough we only need the room for a few nights and usually do not have much contacts with the staff, but when we do we expect a friendly, courteous and professional service. This hotel comes out as one of the worst. Service is everything. Maybe I was unlucky. Would I recommend this place? Can’t you tell yet?

It was a very nice place. Breakfast is ok about quantity but the quality of food is quite cheap. The person who welcome me was not so sure the parking was included in my reservation (it was ok at all,but I had no proof printed to show him)so it should be better if venere send the conditions (parking and breakfast included)in the email of confirmation, I could print that.

If you are travelling by car, this is a very good place to stay, since the hotel has its own safe parking lot. Building is nice and historical. Staff is not unfriendly but could be more client orientated. Rooms are OK, quiet and clean but there was some mould in the shower. Breakfast is simple. Location is great, all interesting places are in walking distance. Overall: I would go there again

This hotel was advertised as the best 3 star in Florence, I have to agree. Excellent hotel great large rooms, we asked for a garden view with a balcony (only 2 rooms with one so worth asking)Very friendly staff, situated 10 mins walk to the centre, very good local restaurants 5 mins away. Has a private quite garden to relax in also a pool which was not advertised for some reason. Would fully reccommend a stay, and great value.

Actually the accomodations were fine. But the poor welcome we received set the tone for our entire stay. Upon arrival, the guy at the reception desk was smoking a cigar which smelled up the entire downstairs and all he was doing was playing computer games rather than responding to our presence. At a later point, we asked him to recommend a restaurant and he said he would not until 7:30 pm. We made our own plans from that minute forward.
The location was good.
The "American breakfast" was terrible and we ended up not partaking of it at any time.

A little bit of an oasis just to the north of the city centre.
20 minutes walk from the Ponte Vecchio and all the major sites.
Spacious building with gardens.
Staff were available and helpful but discreet.
You may be lucky to get one of the rooms in the photos but that would be the only criticism.
