We spent time in Florence as a family and the hotel's famil room was splendid.
It was quite a walk out of town but we really enjoyed both the hotel, the trip and the walk enabled us to find a magnificent deli were we enjoyed magnificent take awy pizza slices and other goodies.

The restaurant Accadamie was very nice and the corner pastry shop was excellent.
A beutifully restored hotel, mixing the modern facilities (bathroom) with the classic details of the hotel's period. Very nice!

This was my second time in Florence and this time did not meet my memory nor my expectations. In regards to this hotel, it is nice inside, but is located near a "kind of rough" part of town. My wife did not like walking down some of the streets at night. On the other hand, you are near and within walking distance of the Academia and other main attractions. We walked to everything we desired to reach. Rooms are clean and the Cappuccinos are the "Best" I had on our whole trip! Please note that if you drive to Florence and are keeping your car, then the garage is going to cost about 16 euros or 21 euros if you have the Hotel's partner come and valet the car in their garage (which is what we did and they took care of the car without an issue). The cost for this was an unexpected surprise to us upon our arrival. Outside of that, it is a nice three star hotel with a good staff.

Unfortunately the property is old and had sewer gas leaking into the room 24/7. We had to keep lav door and closet door closed and buy air cleaner. I don't believe the room should have been rented as it was so very unpleasant. The staff was very pleasant though and kind to us during our stay.

Not knowing about the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised when we saw our room for the price. The staff was very friendly, and helpful in their recommedation for dinner and where to go in Florence. The hotel is centrally located, so all sites are within walking distance. A wonderful hotel, I recommend highly, and will be sure and stay their again on my next visit to Florence.

A charmless hotel. Surly, unhelpful reception staff. Common areas and room did not match photos. A poorly furnished room with scruffy paintwork and an old fashioned, inadequate bathroom with plumbing which did not work properly. Poor value for money. This property has more of a feel of a backpackers' hostel than a hotel. Having travelled extensively in Italy, this is one of the worst hotels I have stayed in.

A lovely little hotel. Charming interior, wish we could have stayed in summer for breakfast on the terrace.
A little bit of a walk into centre but certainly not enough to put me off booking again. Will always stay here in future.

we had a great stay in Florence in Oct 2006, the hotel was great value, lovely and clean and located approx 10 minute walk from the main places. The character of the hotel added to the Italian experience for me and my 3 children. If I had to think of something negative the only thing I can think of was that there was no coffee making facilities in room and our bathroom was small compared to the other rooms, but not really a problem.

This is a very nice hotel, with some quirks from a American traveler's point of view.
First, there was no box of facial tissues in the room. This is something I have never seen in any hotel. Indeed, this was the only hotel that we stayed in during our trip to Italy where there were no facial tissues. To me this was petty.
Second, and just a bit quirky, was that there was no shower curtain in the bathtub. Taking a shower and keeping the rest of the bathroom dry was difficult. In fairness, I have seen this in other European hotels, but it seems silly.
Thos quirks aside, the hotel has charm, and it is located in a great part of the city, near to the University and the Academia Gallery (David), and a 10-minute walk from the Duomo. Of course, since Florence is so small, nothing is far from anything in the city.

We made our reservations based on the great reviews on this site. And we are pleased to report that we had a wonderful stay! The staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. Breakfast was generous and the other dining recommendations from the staff were fantastic. We wish we had spent more time in Florence and at Orto de'Medici. We will certainly stay here again on our next visit. Thank you!!!

Was in Florence for a little under one week on business. Was a great hotel in terms of value and quality, however was not the best for the business traveler (no internet, a little far from the train station). Nonetheless would stay again if in Florence for vacation.

The location was very convenient, the room was way above average with respect to size, both the bedroom and bathroom were huge (compared to several other cities), and overlooked a lovely courtyard (which we also availed ourselves of in the evenings for a quiet glass of wine!). The staff were quite polite as well. Breakfast was quite good, nice selection. Would certainly come back to this hotel.

To whom it may concern of the Managementteam of the Orto de Medici hotel: I might have lost my ball point in my room ( I forgor my roomnumber). The pen was the former pen of my father so I am very sad to have lost it although I took special measures to prevent loosing it.
It is a silver coloured Parker ballpoint. Could it be you have found it in my bedroom at the Orto de Medici hotel?
Thanks for finding out. Greetings H.Derkx

The rooms are really OK. Try to get a room on the backside of the hotel, because the street could be a bit loud at night. If you travel by car, you should plan the route to the hotel with a city map (the one way streets are tricky). I recommend the car drivers to use the parking service, since the hotel has only one parking place for loading direct in front of the hotel.
I recommend this hotel for all who want to explore all the sites of interest, because you could reach nearly everything on foot (The Cathedral in about 5 minutes).

I stayed in a quad with three other friends and we found the room large enough for all of us (a rare luxury in Italy). We also found the staff at the front desk very helpful, providing us with printouts of the information we needed. The breakfast room was pleasant and the food excellent.

We had a fantastic stay in a double room with wetroom style shower in the bathroom. Could not fault this hotel: lovely classic Italian decor, great breakfast, quiet surroundings but still very central and the staff were all friendly and helpful. One evening we were served at the reception desk by the owner himself. Good value for a 3star hotel in Florence, we would strongly recommend it to anyone.

Decent place (nothing extraordinary) but way too expensive for what it was offering. Definitely does not deserve the price paid.
Plus the waitress was not very friendly when I asked for capuchino for breakfast rather than the regular coffee that they offered (the only place in our 2 week vacation where we saw unfriendly waitress). For the price of the hotel, at least I should have receved an excellent capuchino, rather than the capuchino which tastes horribly.
Parking is offered for 21 euro, they come and pick up your car and return it when you need it. It was nice that we could leave our luggage at the hotel after we checked out while we were sightseeing the city.

We all loved this hotel, and would happily stay there again - or recommend it to our friends! The staff were terrific - we were a party of 9 which grew to be one of 11, and consequently had some complicated arrangements to sort out both before and on arrival. Can't praise the professionalism of the reception staff enough! They were helpful and attentive throughout our stay.
The hotel facilities would have done credit to a 4 star - we especially loved the terrace, and not just for its historical associations.
Being in the university quarter also gave us access to some good restaurants at very reasonable prices.

We had a quadroom (1 king and 2 double beds) on the top floor and were very pleased with size, cleanliness, and atmosphere of the room. Our room faced toward the Accademia (1 block from the hotel)and we could also see the Duomo. Breakfast was also very nice.
Hotel is a few blocks outside of the tourist center, which we enjoyed (quieter and nice neighborhood). While we walked with our roller suitcases to the hotel from the train station, the Florence sidewalks are very narrow which makes this more of a chore than normal - consider a taxi if you have heavy bags.

Orto de'Medici is a very agreeable hotel. The hotel staff is attentive and friendly. Friends from the US, Australia and Europe joined me in staying at this hotel. They all were very pleased with the location and accommodations. I was happy that it turned out well for everyone as I chose the hotel from Venere's web site. I will stay here whenever I am in Florence.

Orto was a great hotel for the money. We had an inner facing room, which was very very quiet (slept great!). Couldn't tell we were next to the elevator. Good storage, Very nicely appointed bathroom (great shower - asked for shower, didn't need/want bath), very nice and helpful staff, very nice breakfast and breakfast room (they will make you eggs if you ask), and Florence is so small you can get anywhere from here in short time. We paid something like $170USD per night, if I recall. There is lobby, but who needs that? I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone seeking a quiet place, and a good value.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel.
PRO:The breakfast room and garden area were very nice, as was the assortment of food at breakfast. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We had two rooms, one of which was larger and had a recently remodeled bathroom.
The location is convenient to most everything, especially the San Lorenzo market.
CON: My only rant is for the other guests who felt it necessary to have loud cell phone conversations in the hallway outside my room, at 1am.

This is a lovely hotel situated in a good position within walking distance of the railway station, internet cafes, laundromat, nice restaurants and the wonderful sights of Florence. Our room was clean, comfortable and attractive, and had doors opening on to a balcony where we could sit and look at the Duomo and the terracotta roofs of Florence.

Very nice, modern rooms, decorated with style. Excellent bathroom with good shower. Very good breakfast with good, if not great, coffee. Friendly and helpful staff. The location is close to many of the major sites and interesting in its own right. The only quibble is that it is a bit expensive, but that is expected in the center of Florence.
