Our visit in February-March 2008 was our fourth stay at this hotel. The Carolus is convenient to, and within walking distance of, Florence's major sights. The staff, as on prior visits, helped us to book scheduled museum visits before our arrival and made us feel welcome - as if returning to friends - rather than serving with cold formality. Apart from occasional celebrants in the street, the hotel is pleasantly quiet. Breakfasts are tasty and ample. Good restaurants near the central market are only short blocks away.

Very pleased with Hotel Carolus, stay was pleasant and request to stay on top floor was granted - good views. Location was good and quiet and close to San Lorenzo markets for great handbag shopping!

This was our second stay at the Carolus. We had so much enjoyed our previous visit over New Years 06-07 that we returned for a quick four nights to celebrate a birthday. Reading our passports, the reception staff recognised the birthday and - quite spontaneously - provided wine and glasses. We enjoyed the comfort, the ambience, and the excellent service and will return to this superb hotel at our earliest opportunity.

All the employees went out of their way to be helpful except the dark-haired desk clerk who was obnoxious and did nothing to be helpful and was barely courteous. Too bad since we enjoyed everything else. (Be sure to NOT get the handicapped room - unless of course you need it.)

Employees were very nice and so helpful. We were welcome with a wonderful room with a bottle of wine for our honeymoon. Would definitely recommend the place to anyone who wants to visit Florence. Diane did an excellent job in making us feel very welcom. She recommeded an awesome restaurant for our first night in Florence!

A lovely hotel near the center of town. Its position is a real advantage, because it's close enough for a short walk to the major monuments, but is far enough away from the hustle-bustle to allow for relaxation when needed. The staff was delightful, friendly, and helpful in all matters. My only criticism is that the hotel seems to need a paint job: there were scuff marks just about everywhere. But the hotel deserves its 4 stars.

I can recommend this hotel. The rooms were clean and quiet and the staff were friendly. I was on the top floor and had a lovely view of the surrounding hills. My only complaint is the map supplied from the venere website. This indicated that the hotel was in the duomo area of Florence - in fact the hotel is around a kilometre away from where the map suggests (in the SS Anunziata?). Although, in my opinion, the actual location of the hotel (the university area) is more pleasant than the duomo area, I wasted a lot of time wandering around with a heavy bag trying to find it. The map you can obtain from the Carolus website itself is correct.
