The room was clean, of a decent size, and had a lovely view. The breakfast was standard. The location just outside the city wall with free parking was convenient for visiting Erice. The whole place is a little shabby and in need of lots of maintenance and refurbishing. Light bulbs were burned out, the toilet ran too long after flushing, and balcony door difficult to close. The swimming pool had not been used for years and the van service to take people into the town was not available.

The views are stupendous. The drive up is amazing, but definitely not for the faint of heart. The hotel is convenient and clean, but very dated, like a 1960's movie set. The restaurant food was delicious and fresh, with an earnest and friendly staff. The rooms are typically small. Ours had a broken shower door, hard to turn faucets, a broken light switch and a noisy bath fan. The hotel grounds are pathetic, with broken railings, overgrown terraces, and a crumbling pool half full of dirty water. The 2 nights we stayed, there were strong winds that literally howled through the shutters and railings. It was so loud that no one could sleep. It's quite a steep 10 min. walk to town. I would recommend staying in Trapani, with a day trip to Erice, either by car or on the tram, which is convenient, but sometimes closes due to high winds. The old city of Trapani is gorgeous with better restaurants and more hotel choices. The Hotel Ermione was probably the talk of Sicily when it was built, but time has taken it's toll, and today it is so dated as to make it an uncomfortable stay.

The location was excellent. Very near to the village of Erice. The hotel has a wonderful balcony with amazing views. The hotel room felt very damp and smelled very musty. The room was small and a bit cramped. It was also very noisy. We were on the 3rd floor and could hear people from coachtours in the reception area.

This is another hotel which does not inform customers that its restaurant is closed in the low season. Since the hotel is NOT within walking distance of town, and since Erice can be shrouded in fog in winter, the lack of a restaurant is a BIG problem. That said, when we returned from trying to drive in pea soup fog to the restaurant recommended by the hotel(which also allowed one to charge meals to one's room number), the desk clerk called the OWNER of the hotel, who came over and drove us to the restaurant. That was incredibly gracious of him, but the fact that he sat drinking water at another table in the otherwise deserted restaurant made for an uncomfortable meal. The rooms were shabby, with very poor lighting and what seemed to be old and possibly unsafe electrical wiring; there was actually a fuse box in our room, and we actually had to trip the switch. The beautiful and rural grounds were littered with trash, and the first thing we saw from our balcony was an uncovered swimming pool with dirty water at the bottom. Beyond it, though, was a spectacular view of Trapani, just as described. All in all, there was an air of discouragement about the Ermione, which would be a fine hotel with a little work. We will probably not return unless we hear that the hotel has been renovated. That said, Erice was spectacular, and this was the only hotel we saw that had parking at all. The staff was nice, and the breakfast was good. It might be fine in season.
