I stayed in this hotel for a week and booked it mainly on the basis of other people's reviews and on its availability for the period I was staying in Edinburgh. I cannot help but wonder if it is because I was a single traveller that influenced the poor quality of the room. The water was dirty, the floor looked like it hadn't seen a hoover for the duration of my stay and anytime another occupant in one of the other rooms used the shower or toilet the pipes in my room made loud noises. Because it got very good ratings from others, I am bewildered as to the reasons why. This hotel should be given at the very most a 2 star rating because I have stayed in other 2 star hotels in a variety of European cities as s single traveller with much better service with respect to keeping the room clean. Although the staff were pleasant and friendly at reception, I was extremely disappointed with this hotel and will never stay there again.

Great breakfasts! Severals bus lines stop right by the hotel. It is easy to get to Old Town. We were grateful for the price. Blessings!

Thrums Hotel was a nice surprise. The rooms are quite spacious and clean, full ensuite, and free wi-fi available if the room is close enough to the reception area. Breakfast is served in a airy conservatory overlooking the back garden/car park, full breakfast as well as continental breakfast options are available. The location is quiet but not far from main attractions and well connected by bus. If I ever go back to Edinburgh I'd definitely choose Thrums!

The staff is most welcoming. Hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the Royal Mile. Or, if you prefer, there is a bus stop near the hotel with buses taking you to Royal Mile , Princes Street etc. Room I stayed in has very nice design and a large window. The room was tiny, but with large decent bed and surprisingly large bathroom en suite. I would highly recommend this hotel to the users of venere.com and to my friends.

I was very postively suprised with the hotel on my arrival. The staff was very nice, and the hotel was clean, with new bathrooms. It was located on a street wich meant that I practically could take any buss to get to the towncenter and back again. I stayed in two different rooms, both had a tv, and the rooms where cleaned every day. The surroundings was quiet and nice, with a flowered garden. The breakfast was excellent, and they came to the tables taking orders for the warm food. I would recommend this place.

Great place, very clean, very friendly and helpful staff, good sized room with nice en-suite. Only 2 compliants; there's no internet in the bedrooms, you can only pick it up in the lobby. The noise in the morning from the cleaner (walls are thin..) I never woke up in time for breakfast so can't comment on that.. Overall, would stay again, very nice room

Piccolo ma carino e soprattutto pulito.La stanza era abbastanza grande con 2 bagni (uno con specchio e lavandino) grande ed uno più piccolo con doccia. I gestori disponibili e gentili. Buona la posizione anche se non vicinisimo al centro, soprattutto per il numero di bus che passano davanti all'albergo e che con pochi minuti ti portano al centro. Lo ritengo ideale per una breve vacanza.

The room I got was very spacious with a large window, TV, phone and two bathrooms (bath, shower/toilet) and there was free WiFi access, staff were friendly. Breakfast was average. Free parking was available at the hotel's private car park. Oh, and there's a bus stop less then 50 yards from the hotel entrance that is served by some main lines.

The room was a double (although I ended up traveling alone). As it was, I felt comfortable in the room - it might have been a bit small with two people in it. Otherwise, it was a lovely room, a lovely guest house. My room faced the street so there was some noise, but quieted down at night. I could hear guests arriving late at night which woke me once or twice. They have a beautiful glass-covered terrace for breakfast. Great service both at front desk and from the breakfast staff. Excellent access to public transportation with buses and cabs running by the hotel constantly, even on Sunday. Check out the Metropole Cafe about two blocks away for a reasonably priced peaceful meal and good music. Take a walk thru the neighborhood behind the hotel to reach Arthur's Seat - stunning views of Edinburgh.

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel consists of two buildings, the south building has larger (and fancier) rooms (these are the ones you see on the website), but both buildings are clean and well maintained. The front rooms face a busy street and a not as quiet as the back rooms. I didn't find the noise to be objectionable. If you're accustomed to a modern, double glazed, hermetically sealed hotel room 30 stories above the city you are visiting, you might notice the noise a bit more... When we were there (June 2007), they were upgrading the plumbing and installing new downspouts. Good to see an old building being maintained. Breakfast was good and there is front parlour to sit in. Wireless internet is free, but it is located next to the parlour in the north building, and does not reach to the south building in a reliable manner. It would be nice to have a repeater in the south building so that the signal would be available from those rooms as well. Mind you, having free internet access at all is a great bonus. All in all, I'd return.

This hotel was very clean and the furnishings in our room very nice. We enjoyed our little gas fireplace with blower! The people were friendly and helpful and the building felt very secure. The hotel is on a busy street so you'll hear sirens and cars during the night. But, on the other hand there are decent restaurants within walking distance and public transportation is right outside the door. Our bathroom had a faucet that leaked water in a steady stream so we had to shut the bathroom door at night. The water at the hotel when we filled the tub was very brown, I don't know if that's a plumbing issue or a citywide problem. Also, the lights in the bathroom were burned out, but there was enough natural light so didn't need extra lighting. I forgot to tell the people at the desk about this problem and I'm confident they would have been right up to replace the bulbs. The beds were comfortable and we had a good nights' sleep before heading out to return home. The breakfast room is quite cheery and breakfast menu adequate. It's located about 8 miles from the airport. Coming in the taxi charged $34 USD and going back, the cab fare was $40. GO figure.
