The staff was helpful, and the breakfast was good. This is pretty much only positive thing we have to say about this B&B. I spent at least 30 minutes to find the location, asking local people for assistance, however even they din't recognize its location on the map since half of the streets were missing. It was very foolish not to print out a google map. The room was very small and old. I had to put on a t-shirt to lay on a bed since the sheets didn't look perfectly clean. We stayed in the Cairn Hotel the other night and liked it much better.

At the begining I was very pleased but first night in room no 1 I was bitten by bed-bug. In the middle of the night I asked for another room. I was given room no 3 which was ok. I asked for apologies and/or discount according to the situation but was told no. The rest like food was ok.

Very helpful friendly staff and spacious room. Handy buses to and from city and some great restaurants in Leith suprisingly! Hotel is ok, you get what you pay for.

After the more positive description on their webside we expected something much better. Not the best district to stay, hotel and interior not even well-kept, equipment outworn, loud, the offered twin was really ugly and small. We would not stay a second time there and think one get better accommodation in town for the same price.

The smell of mold and mildew in the room was overwhelming! The carpet was filthy and we didn't dare sit on the sofa! Overall, the hotel has been maintained with quick-fix incompetent efforts. Major overhall needed everywhere!

The is far from the center, more than I expected. It takes about 15-20 minutes with a bus that takes you directly infront of the place, not that bad. The problem is that the bus doesn't arrive that often and there are only 2 lines (11 and 25). The property's owners are very nice people. Breakfast is good. The bed wasn't tat comfortable.

We enjoyed our stay, we were 6 girls in total and it was easy to find the hotel and reach the important points in the city, the hotel is nice and quiet, breakfast was delicious and the managers were very friendly and helpful with directions and information of tours outside the city.

We had a great time at Merith House. The owners were very very very kind and helpful. I felt like I was at home. It's not in the centre, but you can take the bus (line 12 or 25)to the city centre, and it will not take you more than 10-15 min. I'll be back for sure.

I got a very cheap room and a twin for the price of a single, not the best matress in the world, but the room was absolutely fine, clean and secure. Not the best area of town, but I didn't get any problems on a saturday night, and nice views across a park. About 25 mintues walk from the city centre, but well connected by bus. Very welcoming staff, bargain at the price. Would definately stay again. Oh, and good breakfast.

apart from the cleanness of the rooms everything was OK in this hotel (welcoming people, convenient to go into town with buses in front of the hotel, at walking distance from Leith port with many good restaurants), but that is the reason why I wouldn't recommend it

The Merith House is located overlooking Leith Links. My room looked out onto the Links and it was a lovely view. The room that I had was spacious and the staff were very very friendly and helpful. The breakfast facilities were great too. Great value for money.

Hotels in Edinburgh are inordinately expensive and this is one of the cheaper ones at £35 per night, but the building, decoration, fittings & furniture are very tired. My (small) bedroom had just bare light bulbs, without shades, in the bedroom & en-suite. Nice fried breakfast with good quality ingredients, though.

At Merith House, mine host offered ideas and directions for each day's occupation. Breakfast was cheerful and friendly. When I had to leave early, I was offered fruit to take with me.

I realize this is an old building but the plumbing was loud and inadequate. A bachelor party was in progress during our visit and it was very noisy. Our room smelled like the bottom of an ash tray.

Our hosts were extremely graciaous. All considerations were made for my 89 year old Mother. The problem with European accommodations is not necessarily the extremely expensive cost per room, but the mattress upon which you sleep - poor quality and very uncomfortable. For the same money paid excellent quality rooms can be secured in the states, but for some reason - no matter where in Europe, mind you, the beds are just of poor quality. There was no public area other than the breakfast room which is accessed down a spiral staircase that could be difficult for anyone with an incapacity. Overall, though, Mertle and Jean went out of their way to provide the best service one could expect.

A big, lovely Scottish welcome. Were worried when I stayed away for the night. Big stodgie breakfast, just like staying with your Granny and Grandad. Noisy rooms & bus-stop outside. Otherwise, sweet.

We have reached the 2 a.m. and they have welcomed us without problems. The room was enormous and comfortable, we were in two and there were 4 beds. Good breakfast, well connected with the center, we had the car, but you can go also with a "little" walk (20 min). Easy to find. Great the characters that have welcomed us and as they have treated us. they have had a good availability.

All employees have been very friendly and provided excellent service. The room was fine for my purposes and the only setback was that the TV did not work very well and there was only one socket in the whole room which was accessible.

It was very tiring trip to Edinburgh city. However, the city and the Hotel Merith House were very nice, the persons at hotel were very lovely and the room condition and accodomation price were also available for me. I want to thank to hotel owner and Venere. I would choose the venere.com for all my next booking. Ali Panal

in comparison to our b&b at windermere the night before, the quality and appearance of the whole hotel wasn't good. In Edinburgh, it was a place to sleep and have breakfast. Uncomfortable beds and bathroom/sleeping-room, which wasn't renovated or renovated in a way, that someone wants to to something nice for the customers.

Very hospitable staff. Copious breakfast. Very quiet surroundings. The only criticism is the price hike during the festival season and the lack of a shaving outlet in the bathroom. Otherwise, it is highly recommendable.

Very helpful and accomodating staff made us feel most welcome. Our room was clean and perfectly adequate. The location, whilst a couple of miles from the city centre, was slap-bang on an excellent bus route. Breakfast was good and plentiful - ideal unless you're concerned about your cholestorol levels. All in all, a good budget option. I would definitely return.
