This is a good hotel, the room was spacious and comfortable (the bed a bit hard, but this is common in Italy) with a fine view to the lake. Everything fine except for traffic noise when we tried to sleep with the balcony door open. We may return if Como community removes the motor traffic from the "Lungolago".

The Hotel was really very good. The break was a surprise birthday present for my partner. I asked for a 'nice' room. We had an excellent double aspect room, with views of the lake from both windows. It couldn't have been better. The only downside was the noise from the traffic, but it didn't detract from our general enjoyment.

I was amazed at how big the room was and it was very well appointed. The location was amazing and we had a fantastic view of Lake Como. The hotel staff very nice and helpful and all spoke excellent English. I will stay here again next time I visit Como.

Overall our experience was very positive except for the shower--what a mess we made. There was no standup shower, just a hand-held one which older hotels in Europe have. Breakfasts were great. Would have been nice to have a hotpot for tea in the room. With the lake view comes the street traffic in front of hotel--can't have one without the other. Near everything, with ferry right outside, and the comfortable bus to Milan one block away (14 eur. per person). Good restaurant, with many nearby as well.

We found the staff were extremely helpful. We stayed in Como for 2 nights and we thought the people in Como in general were extremely tourist friendly. We would definitely stay at the Hotel Metropole Suisse au Lac again.

Most enjoyable stay, the staff very helpful and friendly. Access to the hotel from the train train was easy. We would have loved to have had longer in Como to explore the area, but our time was limited this time.

The hotel is in a great location right on Lake Como and adjacent to the centre of town. Our room was facing the lake offering fantastic views. The staff were very friendly and helpful. All staff spoke very good English which is a bonus. The onsite garage was very convenient after battling the crazy Italian drivers. The rooms are not ultra-modern but have an "old world" charm which is very pleasing. Overall a lovely hotel in a beautiful location.

The hotel was everything that we could have wished for.Excellent location with great views of the lake and centrally located for getting around the town and surrounding area. The hotel staff were very good and the breakfasts were more than adequate.
A great stay.

The location is excellent. The breakfast offerings were poor by Australian standards and the chair coverings were grubby.Ask for a room with a lake view and preferably with balcony. Traffic noise is noticable from early morning.

This was an elegant older hotel that was in a very good state of repair. We requested a room with a lake view and that is what we had.
THe room was old and spacious with nice mid 20th century furniture and a large bath. The location was great, right across the street from the ticket booth for boat trips, and right next door to the Tourist information booth, and right on the edge of the old town.
We were able to visit Bellagio via the boats, and wandered the old town of Como to find some really nice places to eat.
Overall this was a very nice place, but not new and modern. If you like older character but clean and nice, this is a very good place.

This was the best hotel I stayed during my trip to Italy this year. The hotel was clean, bathroom was nice and linens were excellent. The breakfast was okay but the staff was friendly and extremely helpful. I will definitely stay here again when visiting Como City!!

This was my first time to beautiful Lake Como. Therefore, I wanted a hotel that was easy to find and in a good location. I found it! VERY centrally located and right across the street from the ferry dock. I had a small balcony and great view of the lake. I took the ferry the next day to the complete north end of the lake and then stopped on my way back at Belagio. I highly recommend either the Grand Hotel (right at the dock and in the middle of everything) or the Hotel Belvedere (which was a little higher up the hill). Obviously, everyone wanted to see George Clooney's new place and I can now add my name to the list. I am now looking forward to my return trip but next time I'm thinking of staying in Belagio at the Hotel Grand. Hotel Metropole Suisse au Lac is also a great place for those first timers who are afraid of taking risks... :-)

An older hotel, a little overpriced. Really 3 stars, not 4. Parking was not good - it was some distance from hotel if you want in and out privileges. Overall it was a good experience, and I'd stay there again. Good breakfast.

Good stay. However, other than CNN News and Sky Sports, no English-language channels unless a package bought up front (exactly the same set up as B'ham Novotel Airport Hotel - a sign of things to come?!). So no UK news to speak of and no travel or discovery channels - a treat for me, so part of my holiday!! The restaurant was under separate management and although the food was excellent, the menu was the same every day - OK for business travellers but not so good for a week's stay. However, lots of other good places to eat. The bar was never open. Also, we missed somewhere to sit out in the afternoons, but then maybe that's not unusual in a city centre hotel. We did, however, have a great lake view. (Have previously stayed at Barchetta Excelsior and although no lake view, we had a small balcony which was wonderful for sitting and relaxing.)

This was my first saty at this hotel. The room wasn't too large, but for a single person it was comfortable enough. The view of the lake was worth every penny! There was, at times, some street noise, but it didn't bother me too much, because I wasn't spending too much time in the room anyway. The room was spotless, the shower is very tiny, but the water pressure was decent. The so-called "Internet connection" was nothing more than WebTV, which works awful and they charge $6 per hour minimum. You get much better deal just across the Piazza at Internet place. The staff was very friendly and very helpful in every way. The restaurant at the hotel is wonderful! I ended up dining there 3 times! The breakfast (included) is a typical buffet. The location is absolutely perfect!

We loved the Metropole. The location was wonderful--right on Lake Como, the staff was helpful, the rooms were clean. The only negative was that the room and bathroom was a little small, but we had a corner room which gave a a full view of the lake which was really beautiful and enjoyable. It was in a great location to see things around Lake Como and we took a leisurely boat ride to Bellagio which was spectacular. Funicolare Restaurant (a short walk around the lake) was fabulous--we would hightly recommend. We would definitely return to this area and this hotel!

IT IS A BUSINESS- AND LEISURE HOTEL AS WELL. THE NEAR TO THE LAKE MAKES IT SPECIAL. IT IS VERY CENTRAL SITUATED. THE STAFF WAS VERY HELPFULL AND GAVE AS TWICE A EARLY CHECK IN AND A LATE CHECK OUT. WE WERE GUESTS OF THIS HOUSE FOR AT LEAST 8 TIMES AND WE RECOMMEND IT VERY MUCH.

We stayed only one night -- enjoyed the view of the Lake from our room. The views and location are what make the Hotel. Staff were cordial and efficient. Cannot really comment on other facilties as we weren't there long enough, however, would like to return.

Location was excellent. Room was small. Inclusion of breakfast was unclear. I ate breakfast in the restaurant once and was not charged. Is breakfast included in the room rate or was I just lucky to be uncharged. That was unclear to me.

The hotel is in the best spot in Lake Como. The village is behind you and the lake is in front. All the boats leave straight from in front of the hotel. Even if you take the train from Milan, the station is with in walking distance. Couldn't be better.

This was our last stop on our vacation. It was within walking distance to the train station. The directions from the train station could have been a little clearer. This hotel was a wonderful surprise and a great ending to our fabulous trip to Italy. The staff could not have been more helpful. They were giving us suggestions about what was going on at this time and maps to get there. The room was great we had a double superior room a high floor with a view of the lake. The hotel is literally across the street from the ferries and water taxi. There were great restaurants all around within walking distance. We wished we had planned a longer stay in Lake Como and at this hotel it was wonderful. Next time!

The best part about this hotel is its location. It is in walking distance from the train station and the marina is directly in front of the hotel. The breakfast service was excellent. I would recommend this hotel to others. Very close to shops. Visit the restaurant at the top of the Coin Department Store - great view of the Duomo.

No hot water in my room, after several complaints the hotel gave me a key to another room to use the shower. This was not an acceptable solution, $50 was taken off my bill but that left me with a 6 hour drive the following morning without shower or shave.

Great location, basically comfortable, but now quite old and tired, and badly in need of an update and renovation. Cocktail bar service was slow, breakfast was the bare minimum and the "double" bed was just two singles pushed together...

We did enjoy ourselves there in hotel and Como overall. We were really satisfaid Venere-service and overall hotel and everything. Only minus is nearby road which is rather crowded and make trafficnoise to rooms which are to the lake.

Competent and friendly staff. Excellent room (for my stay at least), ideal location (at night the main road is hardly used and the double windows shut out any noise completely), wonderful view of the lake. Can highly recommend it.
