exterior - entrance
Hotel La Vecchia Cartiera (the old paper mill) is housed in a former paper factory dating back to the 13th Century. This old structure, located in the centre of Colle di Val d'Elsa, became a comfortable hotel after a careful refurbishing. The façade, characterised by arched windows, still evidences the original architectural features.
The hotel offers two beautiful meeting rooms, reading rooms, comfortable rooms and a garage. The 24-hour front desk is at your disposal with all sorts of tourist information about Colle di Val d'Elsa and Siena as well as city maps and fax service.

Very nice accommodation. Everything else positive but the bathroom had a noisy fan - later we learned that bathrooms with a window do not have this. In addition to make your stay as good as it gets, request room from old town side, better views. Highly recommended!

Great location for exploring Siena & surrounding countryside by car. Rooms more than adequate & good value for money. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

good service and wonderful surroundings, but rooms on the ground floor are tiny and noisy.

Stayed 4 days. Staff failed to give us E-mails that people said they sent to us. Failed to suggest an excellent restaurant just off the main square.

A lovely hotel in a lovely town, very comfortable and welcoming. The management very helpful. The underground garage facility well worth 7 Euros a day. The directions aren't great and we had to ask at Touist Information and a policeman. Good value dinner at Gimmy Gio's round the corner.

The hotel is very fine and the price is good. However the rooms are very sixties. I'm picky about room furniture, but if you are not exigent with that, consider the hotel recommended.

Very nice hotel right in the center of lovely town, perfect for those who want to explore the Tuscany in the triangle Pisa-Firenze-Siena. Spent just 2 days but felt like at home. No experience with the breakfasts because prefered the local "gellaterias".

The person at the front desk Sergio spoke very good english and was very helpful. The continental breakfast was very good and had a good variety of food including fruits. It was our first time visiting there. I would return but would like for the room to be a bit bigger.

The village are just outside the hotel door, and there are no noise when you close the windows, or you could look at the main place from your window. When you are there offer yourself an evening at the 2 star Michelin restaurant Arnolfo. It was realing an evening to remember.

Perfectly located for visiting the old city centre, very short walking distance from the new elevator to the medieval city. Easily accessible (by car), friendly and helpful personnel, good buffet breakfast. Rooms are not well isolated from the corridors and can be noisy. No problems with outside noises though.

The superior room which booked over Venere was more regular and the hotel rooms in reality look not so nice than on the advertsing. Best looks the entrance from the backside. Chef is very nice but other staff especially at breakfast find it hard to say hello and seem a little bit disorganized. The city has a new elevator up to the old town which is for free. Was also surprised that the freeway from Pisa to Florence is for free. We picked this town because it is in the middle between Siena and Florence and near many other places of interest. Around the hotel enough restaurants to have nice dinner and much more cafes.

in the middle of the new center situated, parking in a garage 7.- euro/night, owner speaks excelent german, very friendly and helpful, breakfast buffet with a big variaty of food, excellent coffee, inside, the hotel floors reminded us a little of a modern office building and not of an old paper mill.

A very pleasant hotel. Ideal for a short budget break. Much much better than many other 3/4 star Italian Hotels that I have stayed in.

Directions to hotel should explain that the hotel is located in the center of the lower town, not the upper town.

Good hotel, great staff, great location, great value. I was concerned because the price was very modest. However, the room was worth twice what we paid. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent, central to Tuscany, Chianti, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, we even went to Venice (3 hours). The town it was located in was also enjoyable, some parts dating back 1,000 years. Located near town square, so if you like complete quiet before midnight, get room away from square.

Very friendly and helpful staff. We had one of the larger double rooms which also had a seating area. Very clean. Hotel well located in the centre of the town. No restaurant at the hotel (only for breakfast), but plenty of good eating places around at a variety of price levels.

Spare, modern hotel inside the shell of a former paper mill though only the large wooden shutters signal its earlier role. Room adequately sized, clean and comfortable. Good bathroom, with a tub! Friendly and helpful owner speaks fluent English. Note that Vecchia Cartiera is in Colle Bassa, the modern part of town, not Colle Alta, the medieval city perched on a hill above. If you want to stay in Colle Alta, book the slightly shabbier (also slightly cheaper) Hotel Arnolfo instead.
