Chalon-sur-Saône is the home of the famous inventor of photography, Nicéphore Niepce. A museum devoted to his work can be seen there.
Every year in July, the Chalon dans la rue festival brings together many street art performances.
Chalon-sur-Saône is known for its wine, particularly white wine such as Bouzeron or Rully. You could enjoy them in the many restaurants of the city, which offer many tasting opportunities.
In the old district of Chalon-sur-Saône, half-timbered houses surround the Cathedral of Saint Vincent.

la signora che gestisce l'hotel è molto simpatica e accogliente. Chalon sur Saone, in generale è una cittadina superquieta. Consiglio il ristorante italiano in rue saint george.

Easy to find hotel, right on the Saone, with very friendly personnel. A large old town house with lots of old fashioned flair, clean and tidy, some corners however somewhat run down and in need of a brush up. Parking was lucky, we found space directly at the front door but probably that is not the rule. A good place to start your excursions through town from (what we didn't have time to do) and also to walk over to the other side of the river where you find plenty of charming bistros and restaurants. Considering we were almost in the middle of the city it was very quiet during the night. The bathroom was clean but so make shift it reminded of grandmothers first attempt at renovation. The breakfast room is obviously too small for the large hotel, quite a number of other guests had to wait until they found a free chair and table to sit at. No breakfast buffet, very French style with croissant and baguette, a little butter and jam.

The owner of the hotel was lovely, very helpful with a wonderful sense of humour. She went to a lot of trouble to assist us and make our stay enjoyable.

Now this hotel is a real gem! Do not expect luxury though, I really have to say I felt more like staying at a friend's than being at a hotel! Very kind and friendly ladies I did not have the possibility to find out if they speak any other languages apart from French, so brush it up just in case. My room was a last minute booking, spacious and a mean really-really big! I saw other rooms they were even better. The building is charmingly old, the room decoration is not expensive but still someone is been thinking about how to make a you feel home, nice lights. It was the kind of hotel I used to stay at with my parents in France 25 years ago, before they started economising and creating weird shaped cubby holes to fit more and more customers in them.

We stayed for one night in this well located hotel. Nice room. Clean bath. Citycenter just around the corner. The Saone in front.

Nice place to sleep over while traveling somewhere else. Didn't have breakfast, so nothing to say here. Wi-Fi works on the first two floors but you need to go through multiple steps to log in! Front desk manager/owner is SUPER Staff -helpful and pleasant but cleaning lady starts banging on the door at 11.30 and continues to do so until you check out. Would stay again. Room vs price? It's worth it.
