reception
The Residence "La Vetreria" is situated in the historical centre of Catania, nearby the "Castello Ursino". It is located in a charming view enclosing the city roofs, the Etna volcano, reaching down to the seaside of Augusta. In a few minutes, you can walk down the heart of the city crossing the "Pescheria", the typical and ancient fish market located behind the "Piazza Duomo".
The building was a noble abode that from 1924 housed a glassworks factory. The restoration works aimed at preservation of all its peculiar features, as interior decorations and artisan equipment. The pure and cosy atmosphere of La Vetreria will make you feel at home. The café becomes a perfect place for your spare time, where you can meet people, read a book or play a parlour game.
La Vetreria has a spacious lounge, which perfectly suits exclusive parties, conferences, seminars and cultural events, by offering refined hospitality. A stay in La Vetreria will offer its guests an excellent hotel service and the most homely intimacy and comfort in the same time.

Clean, spacious rooms with hallways nicely decorated with old photographs. Easy to find because of direction signs placed strategically around the central city. Located within steps of the central plaza and La Pescheria, a place that has to be close to one-of-a-kind. Window views of smoking Etna.

Very nice place to stay in Catania; handy for the airport and highways and the center.

Catania could be described as vibrant. We considered our hotel an oasis in what could have been a surprising area. The room was lovely, balcony and great view over the city. It is well placed to walk to the centre and the wonderful markets, yards from the Castello Ursino. Each set of 3 or 4 rooms has a kitchen and sitting/dining area to share. Unusual, but it would be great for families who prefer to cook for themselves. Yards from typical restaurants which provided excellent value and a glimpse of local life. We would stay there again, no hesitation.

The old building a former glass factory was a delight. Very interesting . Spacious, clean and room to move. Bathrooms great and a lounge room/kitchen on each floor for groups to gather. Great breakfast.

well situated, in a old house with very spacious rooms. No parking but we found a place in the street

Very large, clean room. Helpful staff - great breakfast (except you need to ask for your capuccino !) First night we managed to get a spot outside the hotel, second night we used the garage which was down a few side streets which seemed a trifle threatening - but all was well. Shower was clogged - asked for it to be cleared but it wasn't. Still - a pleasant surprise.

Three things really stand out. One, the staff were extremely helpful and approachable. They certainly help to give the hotel a good name. Two, the breakfast and the breakfast room were lovely. The day was given a wonderful start. Three, the location of the hotel is not in a very nice part of the city.

Camera molto bella e pulita. Ottimi personale e servizi vari. E' a 5 min a piedi dal duomo e via Etnea, ma in un'area un po' più appartata e tranquilla. Vivamente consigliato!

La Vetreria is a charming, stylish hotel in a quiet street, close to the castle and downtown. Breakfasts were very good and creative (many types of special local hand-made pies - sweet and salty). Just one displasure was that one night the air condition in our room (and I think also in the whole hotel) didn´t work so it was difficult to sleep (outside was more then 35 °C). The technician couldn´t arrive to fix it because he lives outside of the city (this information I received from the receptionist next day in the morning). But also the night before the air condition was not too good so I think that the general refurbishment is important.

Wonderful staff - bright, helpful, good English and gracious. Our special thanks to Giovanna Panettieri and Gabriele Marletta who were so hospitable, effiicient and kind. Both have sparkling personalities that literally light up the Vetreria's lobby!! Although it is located in not such an attractive neighborhood, La Vetreria provided the best accomodations of our four week visit to Italy. But even though the nearby streets looked on the rough side, the shop keepers were - without exception - kind to this non-Italian speaking tourist. No one took advantage of me, and everyone appeared good natured. Our suite was well-appointed and atractive. rooms. The beds were comfortable. The bathrooms modern and quite spacious. We were near the back of the hotel and the traffic noise was not a great problem. Would happily return.

Some of the reviews I read raised questions about the neighborhood. While I can understand the comments in terms of appearance, I so no evidence that the area was a problem. The hotel is very conveniently located (walking) in terms of the Duomo and Via Etena ("main drag"). A very nice place. Very comfortable with Internet access available in all rooms.

Persone veramente gentili, una delle titolari poi è stata veramente molto gentile e carina, ma tutti in generale, una vera chicca a due passi dal centro. Consigliatissimo!!!

Overall good choice. Paid Euro 95 which seemed high in relation to similar rooms in Naples and Palermo, although the room was larger. Very convenient for good restaurants and Duomo and still in a sort of residential neighborhood. Not too far from Bellini theater.

The directions and signage at the property are very poor. We drove aroung for an hour looking for the property. In addition, there could be some improvement on the parking situation. While a garage is available, it is not exactly in a close location.

This property is beautiful! Unfortunately, I don't think there are any areas in Catania where an American female tourist would feel safe, but the hotel more than made up for its city's deficits. Thank you.

The room was truly spacious, once we found the hotel. It was very difficult to find and the directions were not particularly helpful. The staff was very helpful in making reservations at an exellent trattoria for dinner and very pleasant to deal with. All in all, it was a good experience.

Excellent accommodation - well worth paying for parking as street parking difficult. Very close to centre of Catania and the fish market, very easy to find when coming from the airport.

I was staying with my wife and child on a transit basis. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and the rooms very spacious. Very handy for the airport and would have liked to use the facilites and the location of the hotel more.

Nice location, large and comfortable room. The only problem is a pizzeria nearby, where people were singing loudly outside until late at night. I know it is not hotel's fault, but I wished the singing would stop earlier...

It's a very nice place, located near the center of the city. All 'tourist' places are in 5 minutes walk distance, but place itself is quiet. There is ADSL in rooms. One disadvantage could be absence of restauraunt, but there are lot of cafes, small restaurants etc. in the near neighborhood.

The staff was friendly and welcoming. They provided excellent service and were very helpful with information, directions, tours etc. The rooms were clean and homey. The location was a five minute walk from the Duomo square. We were unexpectedly returned to Catania, they were able to squeeze us in, even though it was a busy weekend. I would definately stay there again.

The hotel itsself is very comfortable and close to the ancient city center. However the surrounding buildings are totally run down and not at all pleasant. One would not expect an acceptable accomodation in this surroundings. The accomodation is loud at night due to it's central location. Service is very good. The ladies at the front desk are very helpful in every respect. Parking of cars may be problematic as the availability of garage spaces seems to be very limited.

Very welcoming, helpful staff. Rooms comfortably furnished. Convienent location to centro of Catania. One complaint, we all incurred some bugs bites and are assuming they came from the open windows, but thought should mention.

Half of the wall and ceiling were flooded by water and covered with fungus. The room was filled with a horrible sent of mould and fungus. The staff who served very meager (even taking into consideration Italian habits) breakfast was very distant. Discussions about the previously accepted discount rates.

The rooms are spacious and well-equipped, and the hotel staff was extremely friendly, helpful and caring, even insisting that we should have breakfast despite an early departure to catch a morning flight. The hotel is easy to reach from Catania airport and can save you the hassle of driving in downtown traffic, but it still within walking distance from the fish market, the cathedral and major sights.

The hotel is in an excellent location in the heart of Catania, nearby many sites in a relatively quiet part of the town. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, and had information about Catania, as well as other nearby cities that were of interest. The rooms, breakfast, and common areas were all of good standard. The only minor issue was that their claim to have a "garage" for parking was actually just a nearby parking area open to all.

The location was very convenient. The staff was extremely helpful especially after other less than ideal situations that we had encountered on the same trip. Very satisfied with the entire experience. We would definitely recommend it to friends and family. Great to use as a base in Catania and with day trips to other parts of southeastern Sicily. The bus system would support using this hotel since it is so convenient for bus, train and airport travel.
