The hotel is very nice. Contemporary setting and furniture, it is located a few quiet kilometers from the tourists in San Gimignano. The pool is very private. The hotel owner and hostess could not have been nicer. Even the dog is cute. Breakfast was excellent. Great value if you want to get away from the crowds in San Gimignano. Highly recommended.

This hotel is perfect for us. Our daughter (7 yrs old) was happy with the swimming pool and mini gym. Best breakfast of all with homemade cakes everymorning. NOT a standard Italian breakfast!! but with some local specialities. We enjoyed staying there. We saw one of the staff cleaning the chair and table at the terrace. It is better with own transport. You can ask for further info at the reception desk on the places to visit. We drove to Pisa, Ivorno and other places too. One evening we enjoyed our red wine at the terrace. Come and explore the Toscana view with this hotel.

It would be helpful if you had actually written that the hotel wasn't in San Gimignano itself, but in the region of. It was very difficult to stay here without a car, but we enjoyed our stay nonetheless.

This hotel was the perfect solution for us to visit Tuscany by car. It is located in a small town, more or less in the country so parking was easy, and we woke up to the sound of roosters crowing (beautiful!) It is centrally located and a perfect home base to do day trips to places such as Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, etc.
The man at the desk was a little gruff and not so friendly when we arrived, but I think it was more due to the misunderstandings that happen when they speak no English and we speak no Italian. The ladies that worked in the breakfast room and about the hotel however were great! They were friendly, cheerful and helpful and spoke perfect English.
The breakfast here was the best we found anywhere in Italy. It included assorted sliced meats and cheeses, smoked salmon, bocconcini and tomatos, assorted breads and rolls (they even had loaves of whole grain bread and not just that awful white stuff that is so prevelant in Italy) yogurts, fruit, and assorted sweet pastries. Of course, coffee, tea, hot chocolate etc was brought as soon as you arrived. We certainly didn't starve here!
All in all, it was a perfect choice for us and we would definitely go back if ever in that area again. Thanks, Le Volpaie!

An excellent hotel with very friendly and efficient service. Sarah and Anna made you feel very welcome and the breakfasts were everything we had been led to believe they would be.Lots of fresh ingredients and plenty of choice with fantastic home made cakes. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who appreciates a bit of peace and quiet in quality surroundings.

This hotel is a hidden gem - 'hidden' since it's 11 miles from the nearest town, San Gimignano, and so a car is a necessity. You can not travel to San Gimig by public transport from this hotel. Customer service is fantastic - you are made to feel as if you are the only guests in the hotel ... and the breakfast is superb. Family owned and Anna clearly has amazingly high standards. My partner and I stayed 2 nights, and we really didn't want to leave. The hotel is in a very peaceful tranquil setting and it really is the place to relax. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

nice and quiet hotel, very good breakfast. Car needed to visit San Gimignano but well located between Volterra and San Gimignano. I recommand restaurant "La Mandragola " in San G, and " al sacco fiorentino" in Volterra.

Excellent base for touring. Beautiful hotel and extremely pleasant and friendly staff.
Only criticism is having to travel for evening meals. There is one restaurant in walking distance but you need transport for any choice.
Good parking and wonderfully quiet with vineyards all around the town some in easy walking distance.

anna and sarah were just soo warm, we loved the warmth and the personal attention.the breakfast was super. great hotel in every aspect. the only recommendation is to hire a car as soon as you touch poggybonsi, as taxi's are very expensive and buses almost do'nt exist. will recommend to all and will stay again with them again.

The breakfast is excellent! The reception girl is very kind and warmhearted to help us in every aspect. It is quite easy to get to San Gimignano or Siena within half an hour's driving distance. I personally recommend a nice restaurant close to the hotel named Tre Archi where we had our dinner every night during the stay in Castel San Gimignano.

Hotel Le Volpaie is an excelent place for anyone with their own transportation who want to stay in the Tuscany area. Swimming area was very nice, would be great for people traveling together. The breakfast was outstanding, the best we had in our 2 weeks in Italy.

Great small hotel off the beaten path.
Owners (staff)very kind and helpful.
Definitely need a car as it is located in the Tuscan countryside.
Great 3 star restaurant a 3 minute walk away.
If we ever get back to Tuscany, we will definitely stay here again.

This hotel was a true reward; nice and quiet, it's located in a very nice area, just a short drive away from San Gimignano, Volterra etc. Also, we found it very rewarding, that near by there is a winery with extensive vineyards, criss-crossed with idyllic roads, most suitable for short biking trips, so refreshing after a days trip by car. Or you can just take a dip in the rather large swimming pool. The staff is very friendly and cooperative. In the evening sit back on the porch, take in the surroundings while sipping some red wine ... and come back the next year!

Hotel Le Volpaie is a charming hotel in Castel San Gimignano, Italy. Castel San Gimignano (not to be confused with San Gimignano) is a a lovely, small village located between Florence and Siena and about 15 km from the larger San Giimignano. The owners Lucas and Anna were very kind and helpful. Lucas offered maps of places to visit and suggestions for places to eat. The breakfast at Hotel Le Volpaie has to be among the best in Italy. Our room had a nice balcony and view of the Tuscany country side. We were touring on a motorcycle and the hotel has a garage where we could park in the evening. We visited for three days and I wish we could have stayed longer.

During our 3 month tour of Italy, Hotel Le Volpaie ranks at the top of our favorites. Amazing buffet breakfast...best we had anywhere. Loved the pool. Good location with lots to see and do in surrounding hill towns.

The staff and family were very friendly. The receptionist spoke excellent English. The breakfast was the best Continental we have ever had with personal service of fresh fruit and a nicely boiled egg. Staying here was an absolute pleasure.

A great place to stay for a visit to Tuscany. A car is advised to get to the hotel, as it has a limited bus route and is quite a few kilometres away from the nearest tourist attractions. Excellent rooms and service, with the best breakfast you're ever likely to have. Great amenities include pool (very cold), gymn, lounge area and free use of bicycles!

Lovely clean hotel with nice pool and excellent breakfast. Rooms were good with individual air conditioning. The only downside was being next to a main road with building work starting at 7.30 each day.

Wnderfully hospitable owners and a most welcoming small hotel. A perfect spot for exploring the locality but one would not want to be without transport. Clean and comfortable rooms, an attractive swimming pool in pretty surroundings, and exceptional breakfasts. Evening meals provided no problem as good local eating places were recommeded by the hotel.Thoroughly to be recommended

This hotel is excellent value for the money; although it is near the road and not sitting far back in some dreamlike Tuscan setting, you quickly adjust to the situation. Breakfast is fantastic, the best we had in our 26 day tour of Italy! Large selection of foods and breads; a fresh fruit salad, freshly brewed coffee of your choice (make mine, cafe latte!!) and a freshly boiled egg appear at your table once you appear at your table, all brought to you with a smile by the owners. They are wonderfully nice and incredibly helpful when asked for information on the area. There is no restaurant for lunch and supper at the hotel, but being Italy the restaurants are never far away! The rooms with the best views are on the upper level and are not air conditioned but have a great balconey and sweeping view of the countryside; the air conditioned rooms have a small balconey and are closer to the road with no view to speak of. Noise is not an issue once the air-conditioner is in use and the door closed. The on-site swimming pool is lovely and something to look forward to after a day of visiting in the warm (hot) tuscan sun. This 6 day stay was delightful in every way.

A small hotel, family run, with very pleasant personal service. No restaurant, but superb local food in village a short walk away. Shame it is beside quite a busy road, but the rooms with balcony looking over the fields are quiet. Breakfast one of the best I've had in Italy. Full marks for a great stay.

A very good hotel in a quiet location surrounded by typical Tuscan countryside. Very welcoming owners and friendly staff. Excellent breakfasts in lovely sunny breakfast room. Good pool area with terrace and gardens. No restaurant in the hotel but the 'Tre Archi' restaurant in the village was very good with charming Engish speaking host and menus in English if desired. Would definitely stay again. Highly recommended.

Noise from other rooms was disturbing.
Did not have toilet paper after returning in the afternoon to the room. Not even spare.
I twisted my ankle outside the hotel on the second day of stay and did not get any help at all with my luggage on my way out. (There are plenty of stairs)

Lovely hotel in a quiet country neighborhood. Extremely clean & modern appearance, about 10 years old. Fabulous breakfast buffet- so much food! Meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, salads, tomatoes, eggs, fruits, juices, biggest breakfast we had anywhere! Could be too far out if you don't have a car, about 8 miles from San Gimignano, within a mile or two of several restaurants. Definitely would stay here again & recommend it highly. Beautiful pool, good air conditioning, friendly staff.
