Zetland Country House Hotel stands on the edge of Cashel Bay in Connemara, an area of outstanding beauty. The house, built originally as a sporting lodge in the early 1800s, derives its name from the Earl of Zetland, a frequent visitor in the last century. Today the property is owned by the Prendergast family which has recreated the charm and elegance of those days combined with all the sophisticated luxury expected by discerning guests.

Guests may indeed look over the hotel's gardens rich in flowers, shrubs and trees just from the main reception rooms or bedrooms, and sweeping down to Cashel Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, it will be apparent that the natural beauty of Connemara is never far away.

HOW TO REACH THE HOTEL

By car
From Galway city centre (Eyre Square), take the N59 in the direction of Clifden via Oughterard, Maam Cross and Recess (Sraith Salach on some maps). After passing through Oughterard, and Maam Cross, you will arrive at Recess, marked by a shop (Joyces) and pub (Jack Bills). Continuing a further 2 miles along the N59 after Recess take a left turn onto the R340 where the hotel is signposted. A further 3 miles on the R340 there is a right turn where you will see another signpost for Cashel and the hotel. The Zetland Country House Hotel is situated on the right hand side 0.8 of a mile from the turn. Please take the second entrance to the hotel which will lead to the front car-park.

Departing from Shannon Airport you will need to take the N19 which heads northwest. This will come to a junction at Hurler's Cross where you need to take the N18 north, in the direction of Ennis. Continuing along the N18 after Ennis you will pass through Barefield, Crusheen, Gort, Kiltartan, Laban, Ardrahan and Clarinbridge. After Clarinbridge you will arrive at Oranmore where you need to turn north west onto the N6 in the direction of Galway. Coming into Galway, you have the option to by-pass the city centre, which can be done by following the signs marked N59 towards Clifden.

Travelling south from Sligo, through Westport, you continue on the N59 to Leenane. The N59 then continues along the Killary Harbour, along a scenic drive past Kylemore Abbey, the Connemara National Park and through Letterfrack. This road will then lead to Clifden which is the main town of Connemara with many shops, restaurants and pubs. From Clifden, if taking the N59 (Galway) road south it is about 16 miles (25 minutes) to a right hand turn on the R340 (sign posted for the hotel). Three miles along this road there is another right hand turn onto the R342. The Zetland Country House Hotel is 0.8 miles along the R342 on the right. Please take the second entrance on the right which will lead to the front car park.

Just off the reception is the wood-pannelled bar of the property, offering a cosy and stylish ambience.

Guests can enjoy either a pint of the black stuff or a fine sherry's. A selection of Irish Whiskeys is also available.

Through the bar guests may find a full sized snooker table and thus spend time leisurely after a fine dinner in the restaurant.

Cancellations received 2-6 days prior to arrival are charged at 50% of full booking value. Cancellations received 48 hours or less before arrival date are charged the full booking value.
