The hotel was just a few miles outside of the town of Lucca, which was exactly what we wanted. The true Tuscan food served in the restaurant was great. The hotel offered a cooking class, which was fantastic. The owner was extremely out-going as was his staff.

Located 3km from Lucca, this hotel is perfect for exploring the city as well as the countryside. We enjoyed running, biking and hiking the quiet country roads here. Adjacent to the hotel, there is an excellent restaurant(Michelin Guide, I believe)which served delicious meals at a very good price. Inceidentally, the hotel also offers week-long cooking classes, something we may look into for a future stay.

we had a nice dinner at the hotel's restaurant. the food was delicious and it was easy to enjoy the atmosphere.
lucca is a beautiful city, easy to reach with a car from the hotel (the directions were perfect).
with our two young children going back to the hotel in the evening felt like going back home!

The advertised location of the hotel was city of Lucca. However, upon arrival, we discovered that the hotel was actually located in a remote rural suburb approximately 5 kilometers outside of Lucca in a farmland. Access to Lucca was quite cumbersome and if we did not have a car, would have been impossible.
The hotel, due to construction of a pool nearby, had literally brown water in its faucets in our room upon our arrival. There was a very visible leak under the sink that was never attended to despite our reporting it to the front desk staff.

It would have been hard to find, but other reviewers helped more than the hotel. We used their directions, not the hotel's. You do need a car to get to Lucca. One thing: when we checked in, the clerk said we must notify them if we intend to eat that night at their restaurant,( we declined) but that night when we showed up, they said that a reservation was simply not necessary, and to go right in. They are installing an above ground pool that should be completed any day.

The hotel was as it was described on the web site, staff were friendly and the surroundings were pleasant. The service in the restaurant was variable however we would certainly stay at the hotel again and recommend it to others. A car/taxi is essential for this hotel.

After a beautiful day at the Cinque Terre, we were thrilled with the quiet, pastoral setting of the Carignano. The village was easy to find from Lucca. Of the 4 hotels we had during this trip to Italy, this was the favorite and we wished we could have spent more time here & in the Lucca area. The rooms were very nice and we loved the balconies. The lounge areas were lovely and comfortable and the staff was very courteous (we had local guests whom we spent time visiting in the lounge area & the night manager was very accomodating). We enjoyed excellent food in the restaurant . The young adult women in our group were very happy with their night "under the Tuscan moon".

For travel to Lucca, this hotel requires a vehicle. Cab fares to/from Lucca varied from 11 - 17 Euros. Distance from Lucca center should be made perfectly clear. Otherwise, a very lovely facility, excellent staff and nice rooms.

We were pleasantly surprised by this friendly hotel - breakfast was plentiful, and restaurant on site was good. The only problem, and we were aware of it at booking, was the distance to Lucca center. Travel to the train station was a 15-20 Euro taxi ride.

Generally speaking I would recommend this Hotel to my friends anytime. It's an ideal place to stay from where you can make numerous trips to e.g. Pisa, Lucca, Viareggio (Beach) Grotta del Vento etc.
I specially appreciated the quietness of the hotel and the truly friendly staff.

Very good base hotel. Would return without hesitation. Quiet area outside, but close to, Lucca. Initially difficult to find. Breakfast disappointing. Pool and / or outside seating areas would make it outstanding for the price / category and tempt us to stay longer in the area. Independent restaurant in same building served good food and drink at very reasonable prices.

The hotel in general needed a refit.
There was a general odour of staleness comming from matting covering the floor in the general reception area and bar.
The carpets in the berooms needed a good clean, and as stated it needed modernising

The restaurant of hotel is cheap and excellent
The city of Lucca is at 7minutes of car, and easy to reach.

Hotel is spacious but 5 km from Lucca in the country side and view not as nice as on web site.
Staff quite helpful. Had a problem with dirty water first night due to some work maintenance, fixed next day. Average breakfast with indifferent food. No hair drier. Only Italian tv channels. Sheets were not changed during our stay.

Difficult to find following the instructions provided. After passing the little church (Ponte S Pietro) you need to turn hard right at the junction and then follow the road about 1.5km hotel can be clearly seen from road.
We felt the hotel though comfortable was in need of refurbishment. The staff were very helpful and the restaurant was good value. Views from room was not as good as described. Our towels/bedlinen was not changed during the two days we stayed.Bathroom shower poor.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Apart from the friendly and competent staff we found "Cantina di Carignano" which is adjacent to the hotel very useful. It comprises a small market, a bar, and a restaurant and is a great supplement to the hotel itself. We would have liked to stroll around the hotel, this, however, was too difficult (traffic, lack of trails etc.). Nonetheless, should we go to the Lucca area again we might indeed choose Hotel Carignano a second time.

Staff excellent and very helpful. The hotel needs upgrading to the 21st century. Breakfast very ordinary. Otherwise the rooms were spacious and the location perfect-quiet and with no parking problems.
