THE HOTEL CENOBIO DEI DOGI
Along the coast that leads to Portofino, in the small fishing village of Camogli, stands one of the most charming grand hotels in Liguria. Its story began in 1565 when a family of the aristocratic Dogi which governed a great part of Italy decided to build a villa on a rock at foot of the Mount of Portofino, which is now a Natural Park.
As many of the frequent visitors were Cardinals and Priests, a beautiful little chapel was also built in the Villa. This chapel still exists today. Many years later, after the Villa had passed from heir to heir, it was bought by the noble family of Emilio De Ferrari. He and his wife Adelia transformed the estate first into a park and then, in 1956, it became the luxurious hotel which remains today: The Hotel Cenobio dei Dogi.

We reserved a junior suite for a family of 4. It was pretty large from the European standard with a great view on the sea. They added 2 roll away beds and charged us an additional 82 Euros which I thought was excessive. It's an amazing hotel with a lot of history, nice resting area. Th pool is salt water and quite refreshing. There is a lot of lounge chair at the pool and the beach. The bar is quite nice for a drink on the terrace with a amazing view of the Mediterranean. The beach is a pebble beach and was rough on the day we were there. The breakfast is quite nice with a wide selection. Overall, a great hotel, the surcharge wasn't planed and we had booked 2 adult with 2 children so they knew about it before we came.

nice luxerious rooms, great location, nice pool, great (pebble) beach; we really enjoyed our stay here. only minus: food in beach restaurant was pretty disappointing, drinks are expensive. but Camogli is alovely town and this hotel is at a great spot

The beach and restaurants near the hotel are great. We really enjoyed the terrace bar for cocktails in the evenings, and the views from the breakfast room were gorgeous! It's not far to drive from Camogli to Portofino, which is a great day trip. parking fills up quickly, so we parked a few kms from Portofino on the waterfront and walked the rest of the way.

Excellent hotel in beautiful surroundings. Definitely would stay there again. Only an hour train ride to the Cinque Terra.

Hotel location and public facilities were very good. The room, however, was a 2 star at best. It was cramped, noisy (I could hear the next room snoring and pissing). The service wasnt that great either. Not very accomodating.

It's a lovely hotel in a lovely area. Many "seaview" rooms only have a glimpse of the sea, but the view of the pool is still lovely. A beautiful old building with lots of hidden, pretty rooms.

A beautiful hotel, withg great service and friendly employees located right where you want to be WITH PARKING and with a great swimming area and loungers always avalailable. Staying in Camogli and driving to Portofino and Santa Margherita was a nice idea and very romantic, but if you want to party more, it would be best to stay in Santa Margherita, but it is much, more expensive.

Although the room and staff were just ok, the location and facilities of this hotel are absolutly incredible. The views from the restaurant and the pool are heartbreakingly beautiful. The salt water ppol is wonderful, the restaurants are fantastic and the private beach is a great treat since the public ones are so crowded. The location is also unbeatable. Overall, worth every penny!

The only thing that surprised us was that the hotel thought we were a party of 4 adults and 2 children. The other 4 hotels all seem to know we were 6 adults, our bookings were all made at the same time. If you have any problems Vittorio was excellent and provided service beyond our expectations. So if you have any problems talk with him. His attitude should be copied by all of the other staff members of the hotel. We could not have found a better place or location to begin our vacation in Italy.

Old hotel in beautiful surroundings. Good price/quality ratio off-season. Very difficult with baby carrier/ small children since there is no elevator from outside ground level to the ground floor and from the ground floor to the first floor. A baby carrier therefore has to be lifted and carried by hand several times during a day, which can be quite annoying.

Perfect view , very nice location , nice backyard. Unfortunately , dirty and improvised shelves for clothes , no functionning air conditioning even if the weather was cold , key at the room entry , that does not offer a real security .

Great location with good access to beach. Travelled with our 2 year old daughter who loved the beach & hotel generally. Staff attentive & helpful.

This hotel was a wonderful location for exploring the close by CINQUE TERRE, the railway station is close and the train very reliable and efficient. A hidden gem was discovering, by accident, Zaogli the first stop on the train but not well advertised as it is not one of the "5 villages". Nonetheless breathtaking views to be had if the pathway is followed around the coastline for a few minutes, and not so 'touristy'. Hotel Cenobio fulfilled all our expectations with exquisite surroundings and again a breathtaking view to be had whilst eating breakfast in the beautiful dining room!Swimming at dusk (when a little cooler) a must. There are many nice restaurants and cafes close by but we would stay away from the upstairs pizzaria closest to the hotel!! They advertise a delicious beef fillet which turned out to be weiner scnitzel (to their credit they did change it at our request) All in all a 10 out of 10 holiday destination - wish we could have stayed longer but we will return.

This was a great location. We had considered Portofino as our choice for a seaside stay. We changed our mind and decided on Camogli, we were not disappointed. We loved the common areas of the property and the views of the seaside village. The heart of the village was a short walk. Somehow we had what I think may have been the best located room in the hotel. The only down-side to the room was the bed, it was hard! However, all the beds we stayed in Italy (outside a villa) were hard, I believe that is what they all have. The hotel is just below the rail station (by a staircase with about 500 steps).

The place is beautiful but the rooms (both single and double rooms are very small. For the price I feel that the rooms should be larger. Another problem was that at the hotel beach they charged the guests for a chair ??? Why ?? That was just irritating to us and to other guests I talked to. Everything else was fine.

We had, as booked, a nice room with a beautiful seaview, overlooking bay and town. The Breakfast buffet was ok but limited choice only, including joghurt, cereals, bread, cheese, bacon, ... Considering the view, price is ok, but not cheap

An excellent hotel, well situated and efficiently run. The prices, howevr are out of proportion. The double room we were given was so tiny and cramped we could not relate it to the price we paid.

The hotel was very attractive, the staff helpful and the breakfast excellent. The room was spacious but the bathroom I felt was quite small. We enjoyed wondering around the wonderful fishing village and had a great meal at the Rotunda restaurant.

we had booked 2 garden rooms and got 2 rooms with ocean view...140 and 144...... we were thrilled with the views. Rm 140 was small and I don't think I would rate the price/quality excellent if it weren't for the view! We had a wonderful stay and will return! Thank you

Please note that our booking via internet didn´t work!!! That means that there was no reservation at Cenobio dei Dogi the week before we left (although we got the confirmation regarding the reserveration via internet in march 2003!!!). In case I wouldn´t have phoned and reassured before we left there would´ve been no room for us!! And the 2nd thing - we had a room on the 4th floor (perfect view!), but there has been an penetrating smell (we´ve been told that this might ev. be the heating system of the hotel...)

The hotel quite simply exceeded our expectations. The position was superb, the front office staff were friendly, efficient and could not have done more to help. We had a problem with our hire car (sorted immediately by the receptionist)and one of the party needed some medical assistance, again sorted immediately by the reception staff. The hotel had a wonderful feeling about it, and we were delighted to discover that on one of the three nights we stayed, the Management hosted a free drinks and canapes reception for all residents - a lovely touch, that showed to us 'we care.' A truly enjoyable stay - we hope to return.

I have seldom stayed in a more wonderful hotel. The staff were wonderful esp. the evening front desk gentlemen. They were SO helpful and gracious. We went to breakfast and our room was already made up when we returned! Truly, a wonderful place to stay and the area is peaceful and relaxing to visit.

I've stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels throughout Australasia, Asia, North America and the UK over the years, but rarely have I encountered the grace, elegance and charm of the Cenobio dei Dogi. One night was not enough. Next time I'll stay for a week. You can feel the history in the walls. The surroundings, and views are breathtaking, the staff courteous and friendly, the overall atmosphere peaceful and calming. And the food (local fish!) and service in the restaurant was one of the cullinary highlights of all my travels. I adore this hotel. Class and style, for all the right reasons. I videotaped the hotel, grounds, views etc and have shown it to many friends and family since my return, so expect an influx of Melburnians over the next couple of years! My stay in Camogli was a highlight of a wonderful trip through a wonderful country.

The Cenobio is a pleasant enough place. Its pool and rocky beach, however, don't fully compensate for the small rooms, impeded views, and high prices.
