The turkish bath was out of order, and the swimming pool acces was being repaired. Our room was on the second floor, it was a bit dark because of the tree near the balconnie (no sea view). If you book à room I advice you to choose the 4th floor, in right side of the building, you'll have a sunny room with à great see view. Despite this few comments, our stay was very confortable and very restful

I can recommend this hotel to anyone wishing a quiet holiday in Madeira. The service was excellent, the garden full of huge trees and nice flowers. The best option however to rent a car immediately on the airport - it's about €30/day - and you can enjoy the independence on the beautiful countryside.

Séjour très agréable et reposant dans un hôtel de charme au milieu de magnifiques jardins, avec une vue splendide sur la campagne environnante et la mer. Par contre en raison de l'éloignement il est préférable de disposer d'une voiture pour plus de liberté et pour visiter l'île qui s'avère magnifique. Service irréprochable à tous les niveaux et gentillesse du personnel. Très beau restaurant panoramique offrant de bons menus, mais dont le choix est restreint et le prix un peu élevé.

The hotel was excellent, although difficult to find when we arrived on a Friday evening - more signs would be helpful. The restaurant was good, but we often had to wait for tables and service. The price was, however, excellent for the room,facilities,setting and general ambience.

Spacious, spotless rooms.Friendly, helpful staff, but service at the restaurant could be improved (we waited for 45 min for our dinners even though the place was half-empty). NOT a convenient place if you don't have a car; the hotel's transportation is limited (a daily trip to Funchal leaving at 10 AM). We managed 4 days by taking the city bus (there is a stop at the hotel entrance), but the timetable and duration of the trip cuts into your day.

Fantastic hotel. The location and the hotel gardens are beautiful and tranquil. We specifically booked this hotel as we wanted a relaxing hotel away from all the hussle and noise of daily life. This hotel is perfect for a relaxing holiday. We upgraded to a suite because at a small additional cost it was well worth the extra money. The room was vast in size with 2 balconies, a lounge and a very spacious bathroom. The hotel swimming pool and surrounding bar area is great - the view from this part of the hotel is great...you can see the sea whilst sitting on the decking. The hotel is a perfect location for walking based holidays. The only negative point is the hotel restaurant. The quality of food was poor. Breakfast is included in the room price and is adequate, however the evening meals were disappointing. The price of the restaurant is fairly high, however the main problem was the quality of the food. We ate in the restaurant twice and on both occassions were disappointed. Given that the hotel is fairly isolated, a good restaurant would have really made the difference. Other evening meals were eaten either in the old town in Funchal or in the nearby village which were all far more enjoyable.

Magnifique hotel 5 étoiles avec excellent rapport qualité / prix. Situé à Jardim do Mar dans les hauteurs au-dessus de Estreita de Camara de Lobos. Un peu galère à trouver la première fois. Les chambres sont très propres et spacieuses. Les parties communes sont bien agencées: on ne voit pas de différence entre l'ancienne demeure de la quinta et la nouvelle partie construite à côté. Lieu très reposant avec vue au loin sur la mer. L'entrée se fait dans une forêt d'eucalyptus via une route pavée. Il vaut mieux aller à cet hotel avec voiture de location. Le jardin fruitier e potager est en train d'être agrandi mais il est déjà très vaste et mérite bien une bonne visite! Le complexe piscine / hammam / jacuzzi est très bien, neuf et reposant. Il y a du matériel de fitness à côté et qui fonctionne (ce qui es assez rare au final dans les hotels...). Le restaurant a un excellent rapport qualité /prix. A la carte, il faut compter 25 euros. Il existe un menu (sans choix) à 20 euros avec vin compris qui change tous les jours. Le petit déjeuner est impressionant (continental avec beaucoup de produits locaux). La plupart du personnel parle français. Nous y avons vraiment passé un très agréable séjour!

The photos are the web pages seem a bit ugly - the hotel is nicer than the pictures. The gym facilities are very limited - the photo gave me the impression they would be bigger. You should mention the hotel is 30minutes drive from Funchal in the shuttle bus.

The Horel Staff were most wonderful and helpful. The location is very high up the mountain, but the amenities at the hotel are superb. The food is also superb. We had a very enjoyable stay.

A fantastic stay. Ideal for those looking for peace & quiet. Don't come here if you want bright lights. Not easy to find the first time so make sure you have clear instructions if making your own way. Set dinner at 20 Euros including wine is good value but no choice in menu. A la carte is around 25-35 Euros + wine. The included buffet breakfast has a good choice of hot & cold food. My only regret was having to leave. One week on Madeira is barely enough.
