HOTEL REVIEWS
United Kingdom, May 2005
This hotel was the only reasonable one available at a peak time. Since then, the area has flourished with lots of other great hotels. Nonetheless, the hotel was alright, the staff were nice. The room was basic, and we enjoyed breakfast al fresco on the balcony.

Parents with two kids, 15 and 8. Two double rooms. We got exactly what we paid for - an uncomplicated stay at a four star hotel near the airport. Professional and welcoming staff, helpfull with our questions. Breakfast good, rooms good allthough not too spacious. Immediate surroundings not very exiting, but the town proper is not far away, so location is a good compromise between airport and downtown.

This is the 2nd time that I have stayed at the Cristallo Palace. It is an excellent hotel for an overnight stay if your flight arrives late. I would stay there again. Very good value

The hotel was clean and modern and provided an excellent free bus shuttle service into Bergamo. However, the location of the hotel - near to a busy road and offices - is not very picturesque.

We were staying over in Bergamo because we arrived into the airport late (10pm). The restaurant in the hotel was closed, but the receptionist was able to recommend a very nice place to eat (Past e Basta, just round the corner), and he rang them up to make sure they were still serving. The next morning, he was extremely helpful about directions to and information about the old part of town, the Citta Alta. Room, bathroom, breakfast were all excellent.

the hotel is only a 5 min` taxi drive from bergamo airport, and unfortunately no bus or train services pass by the hotel. the staff were helpful and spoke better english than my italian. the accomodation was adequate particularly the comfort of the queen sized bed. generally worth the money as breakfast was a buffet style allowing you a large or small breakfast.

All aspects of our stay were very good. The room was very pleasing and was well equipped. The bed was extremely comfortable and the cleaning of the room was of a high standard. However we were disappointed with the distance of the hotel from Bergamo centre and the fact that many buses did not run after 21.00hours. Each evening we had to walk from the station after dining out. It would be beneficial to guests in your hotel if the Airport bus was allowed to stop close to the hotel There were never any taxis at the station!

I WAS TRAVELLING WITH MY SISTER AND I STAID 2 NIGHT. THE SERVICE WAS GOOD, BUT THE SHUTTLE TO BERGAMO CITY HAD FEW AND BAD TIME SCHEDULE. IT IS NECESARY TO TAKE A TAXI (12 EUROS).

very helpful staff who printed off train times and gave us directions. dont go in august as the gym is shut and the swimming pool is closed! i think we were the only guests there on the night we stayed. it is near the airport so would recommend as a stop over for a late flight but not to stay for a holiday!

Nice hotel but is a good 20 minute walk to the center of town. The shuttle to downtown runs weekdays only and has only three scheduled departures in the morning 8:00, 8:30 and 10:30 am and then nothing else until late afternoon at 18:15. It is impossible to get a taxi in Bergamo, at least we tried and did not find one (only at the airport). The hotel has a nice restaurant and brakfast is pretty good. Rooms are not very big but comfortable enough and good air conditioning. The shower stall is very small (like on cruise ships) but very clean.

Hotel a bit difficult to find. Taxi driver also had some trouble but not sure whether he was local. Cost about 12 euros in total from airport. Staff at hotel very friendly and our room was upgraded for free. Breakfast good and lovely to eat outside on roof. Would recommend hotel as also provided free transport to the train station.

We booked this hotel due to its proximity to the airport and because we though we would indulge ourselves in some 4 star luxury prior to returning home. The hotel was OK, the reception staff pleasant enough, but definitely not worthy of a four star rating. Having had a two hour train journey to reach the hotel we were naturally hungry and thirsty. We did manage to get a snack and a drink but the bar staff were not in any great hurry to serve us. In fact there was noone behind the bar when we went in and we had to call out for service. We ate in the hotel restaurant as the area the hotel is in is not particularly pleasant and a bus ride away to the nearest restaurants. The food was good but overpriced. The leisure facilities are not in the hotel itself but use may be made of a facility nearby. In order to do this a fee of 13 euros per person plus form filling is required. I dont mind paying for full spa facilities but 13 euros for a swim is not worth it, so we didn't bother. Breakfast was OK but nothing special. The stay here was OK but a little disappointing.

A good hotel, however a little too far from main centre of Bergamo if you're not staying for business purposes. The shuttle bus, which would resolve this, does not run at week-ends. Friendly and helpful staff, the terrace used for breakfast is lovely. Didn't see any reference to Sauna/Pool anywhere in hotel, so not sure if these still exist! NB - No tea/coffee making facilities in room!!!!

Excellent hotel very friendly staff who looked after us very well.Clean & welcoming everywhere.Gave good informatiion for us to get around although some times was not quite spot on (timetables eh!)Details said free shuttle to town available. This was not evident unless we confused staff by asking about bus & train transportation. The hotel is a little bit away from the town but can be reached reasonably easy by bus ( check routes and timetables especially Saturday evenings )or is within easy walking distance.Plenty of maps available at hotel.Would stay again but would prefer additional facilities ( gym pool etc ) to be included in price.

We only had a few problems with this hotel. The main one being that the gym and pool promised on the website are actually not in the hotel but a completely separate business nearby. We had to pay to use them (13 euros each time) and they didn't want us to use the gym at all because we didn't bring medical certificates from a doctor. As the gym was the reason we chose this hotel, this was a big disappointment. The walls were very thin so if there was anyone in the nearby rooms you could hear almost everything they did. The heating really needed a humidifier connected to it as it sucked all the moisture out of the already thin mountain air.

Further from the railway station than we had hoped and no shuttle service to the airport, as we had been led to believe - although only 10 minutes by taxi. Reception staff very helpful in ordering taxis etc. but it proved to be extraordinarily difficult to get a cup of coffee at 11:00 in the morning!!

The hotel is perfectly clean and the staff, competent and friendly. The hoel is handy both for the autostrade and the airport. The price from venere was competitive but slightly excessive by UK standards

The short distance to the airport makes the hotel very interesting - nothing else! Surely not a four star hotel!! Too expensive!

The hotel was very nice. Everyone treated us wonderfully. Only problem, was outside noise level in room we stayed. Had a difficult time falling asleep. We left early in morning and thought it was very nice since we were missing the breakfast buffet that coffee and juice etc were set up in another room. Thank you.

The only real problem I encountered during my stay at the hotel was missing my bus to the airport. I had an early flight and the bus drove right past me. This was not the hotel's fault but airport transportation should be more reliable. The hotel was beautiful, the people friendly. I especially liked the bar - very cozy. I would definitely visit the hotel again.

The announced shuttle to the airport is not functionning during the week-end. We just have choise the hotel so far from Bergamo to have the facility of the shuttle. We have taken a taxi.If we were knowing that there was no shuttle the w-e, we should have choise a two or three star hotel near the citadel of Bergamo.

After staying in the Starhotel Majestic in Turin, Italy, which was an extremely comfortable and welcoming hotel, we thought that the Starhotel Cristallo Palace would be a good place to stay for the last night of our holiday. We had expected the same level of comfort and facilities as at the Starhotel majestic as they were the same price per night and same star rating. At the Cristallo Palace, the staff were welcoming and very helpful, but our room was small, in need of decorating and updating and was lacking in things such a tea and coffe making facilities that would be expected in a hotel of this rating. The reception staff, porters and breakfast staff we all excellent, but the standard of room did not meet expectations or compare to the Starhotel Majestic.
