Albania, Sep 2008
The quality of this hotel was hostel-like; this would have been acceptable if it were thirty euros instead of eighty. The room was small, dim, and chilly. The lights all went out when too many things were switched on. The housekeeper twice entered without knocking when we were in the room. There was no breakfast. The price was not at all in line with the quality.

Quite expensive for what was offered (which seems to be the rule in Bergamo), but a good stay for 1-2 nights if you arrive late in the evening. Otherwise it might be reasonable look for hotels not available via the internet....during our last stay in Bergamo, we managed to get a better price/quality relationship

we needed a place to stay for one night to break a long drive. The hotel was perfectly adequate and pretty good value as a place to sleep, but appeared to have little else to offer (no breakfast, not a lot of charm). The front desk recommended a pizzeria nearby which was excellent .

In Bergamo hotels seem to be quite expensive,so compereted to that, this wasn´t expensive, even if we are used to pay less.Hotel didn´t have any restaurant services, but there was coffee-automat in lounge, and a cup of coffee/tea/capuccino was 60cent.Hotel was little far from historical centre, but not too far to walk-if you ask us.Man at reception was very friendly, and spoke English.

Worst hotel experience ever. Don´t book this hotel on the internet because they put you in the basement and say that it is impossible to change or cancel a reservation. Our room had a view to a brick wall, when you opened the window people could walk into the room and it was so hot that we couldn’t enter it during the day and only slept for moments during the night. The neighborhood is depressing. The hotel is surrounded by two busy main roads entering the town and a noisy railway line and there are no shops or cafes for a mile or two, only immigrant workers hanging out. They might have better rooms but insist on seeing the room!

Although family rooms were clean and fairly spacious they were very noisy - lots of traffic noise right outside the room. No air conditioning therefore very uncomfortable. No breakfast facility/cafe or restaurant. Only vending machines available with very limited and over priced goods for sale. Overall, not value for money and would not use this hotel again.

Good sized room, but boy were they hot! I know it was summer when I stayed, but the room, even with the fan going (no AC) didn't get down to a temperature it was easy to sleep in. Friendly staff, and easy access to train station and town. Oh and the airport.

Thought the hotell was in the old city. A very warm day 32C and no aircondtion in the room. The fan was nosy and the only window to the backyard had to be open. This told us that we where close to the railwaysstation and the airport.

Very basic, only suitable for a one night stop over. Room very hot, although there were 2 fans which helped us sleep.Convenient if you've an early flight- 10 mins(if no traffic) and 15 euro by taxi to the airport. We found a good restaurant just down the road called Gio'.

Afternoon and night staff very friendly and helpful. No language problems. However, despite no smoking rule, room smelt slightly of stale cigarette smoke. I woke coughing during night, had to open window and couldn´t sleep due to traffic noise. For that reason alone, I would not stay there again.

For a fairly cheap hotel this is an ok place to stay. Its close to the station and easy to find, the rooms are clean although ours was quite dark and gloomy. The shared bathrooms were clean and we never struggled to find one free. The vending machines in the foyer would be ok for breakfast if you were desperate but I wouldn't really say that they were a substitute for a proper meal!

Basic clean cheap hotel just perfect for a one night stay arriving late from Bergamo airport. Watch out though if you are as daft as me - we couldn't get a hot shower but there is some dial you must turn near the floor first to get hot water. If you can't figure out you should get help from the staff. Would be even better if a kettle and teabags/coffee were provided as we arrived late craving a wee cup of tea. Cost us 20 Euros for a taxi from the airport (don't know if this is standard) - thought it would have been a bit closer but not too far away.

You get what you pay for. Very helpful staff. Convenient for the airport. Walking distance from the centre of town and even from the old town. Located in between busy streets but the double glacing keeps the traffic noise at bay. Great for a weekend.

I stayed for one night in the hotel with my wife. We both think that the hotel is the worst we stayed in Italy. There are many rooms but no proper place to take a shower. The shower is located in the toilet so when you shower the toilet seat gets wet. So we chose not to use th shower. The rooms were stinking cigarette smoke, humid air or old furniture. It was very noisy: motorbikes, train track nextdoor not to mention the airplanes taking off from Orio. Location is good close to the center and in walking distance to Alta Citta. Friendly staff with good English but no elevator to carry luggages to the third floor. So many comments I am writing for a one night stay since we have been frustrated.

Room included sink with hot and cold tap and mirror, nothing more. Room in general basic but clean as far as I could see in the dim light and functional for our purpose - we arrived early morning and went straight to bed - hungry mind, as there was only a vending machine which we didn't see on the way in. great cappuccino from it though, only 60cents. Left the next day as arranged. Slept right the way through- although its by a road you hear nothing when you close the double glazing, and blackout curtains were great. A let down was that the shower was over the toilet, and, as stated when we booked, was communal, so I didn't risk it (it looked a bit messy in the morning). They kept our baggage while sight-seeing Bergamo, for free.

All in all recomendable, that´s for sure. Easy to reach by bus (from Airport)and train as well, because near main station. Room, employees, service - 100 % correct. The price for single (40 € without private bathroom and breakfast)appears a bit high, but - to me - ok. I would come back anytime.

The hotel debited my card one week before my travel, later I got the money back, so it was not a big problem, but you have to prepare that they probably (usually) do this because they do not want to risk their money. But the hotel was ok, it is not far from the central station and Bergamo is really beautiful.

We stay in a quadruple room, to rest until the aeroplane time. We must leave the hotel at the 5.oo am and the hotel arranged us a taxi to taked us to the airport. They are very friendly. We just don't like the shower because the water run to all the bathroom floor. Is a good alternative to catch the aeroplane early in Bergamo Orio al Serio.
United Kingdom, Jan 2008
The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel is clean and welcoming. There is no lift. My room was large enough, but the en suite bathroom was small. The shower cubicle was tiny - I continually knocked the shower control when I turned around. The hotel is situated on the edge of the town centre, so there is quite a hike to the attractions. The hotel is on a bus route.

United Arab Emirates, Dec 2007
We checked in at 8:30am of Dec. 3 and informed the hotel beforehand about our early arrival but the room was not ready when we arrived. When we arrived at the hotel, we told the receptionist, we will just leave our luggages and we will be back in the evening for check out. Basically, we would want to go to Milan for a couple of hours before we fly back to Frankfurt in the evening. The receptionist was very rude. We were treated like dirt! Just because we booked for a single room and we were two. But for heaven's sake!, we are not even staying, we just need to leave our 2 suitcases. That is all! The receptionist did not allow my friend to go up, not even to use the bathroom. I will never ever use this hotel again. Ever! When we went to Venice, we have stayed at a 189 euro hotel, San Giorgio might be only 37 euro for heaven's sake! but the quality of service speaks for itself. Very rude staff, no customer service at all. I am just wondering if they ever know what customer service means at all!!! I was shocked and very disappointed such attitude exists in a hotel industry where customer service is of prime importance!

We stayed in Bergamo for 2 nights in October. Getting from the airport couldn't have been easier, just buy a ticket in the airportand get on a bus for 5 Euros for 2 people. For the San Giorgio hotel, get off at the train station and folow the road signs for the hotel. The San Giorgio was well located, about 10 mins walk from the station, another 10 mins from new town centre (in the opposite direction), and about another 120 mins walk to the Funiculare that takes you up to the old town. The hotel was very clean but basic, don't expect luxury, you get what you pay for. Breakfast is not included, however there is a vending machine in reception for coffee and snacks, even croissants. All the staff speak very good English and were helpful. We had a room on the ground floor which was very spacious, the doublebed was 2 singles pushed together, so very roomy. The ensuite was a wet room, the bed is made every day and the towels are changed if you put them in the basket in the bathroom. I couldn't fault the cleanliness at all. the only criticism I would have is that if you hire a car there is not likely to be anywhere to park it at the hotel as the carpark only holds about 5 cars and was always full when we were there. Bergamo is a great town to visit but you can see it all in one day, if you are staying longer I would recommend visiting Milan or the lakes.

My flight didn't arrive in Bergamo until after midnight so I was delighted with the hotel's courteous welcome and a very comfortable single room. Although next to the railway line, I experienced no noise problems at all. Position is excellent for travelling around, and taxis from the airport can find the hotel easily. San Giorgio is a very useful and plain hotel in walking distance from the railwaystation and a short bussride or taxidrive (10 min) from Bergamo airport. Main attraction in Bergamo is the Citte Alta (old town on the hill), but unfortunately the atmosphere there is quite disturbed by the too many other foreign tourists, who like us probably were there due to cheap flights to Bergamo airport. The lower and more modern part of Bergamo is also nice, but I recommend taking the train like we did to one of the many other more interesting places in Italy. We went to Padova and only stayed the last night in Bergamo to be able to reach the flight home.

We were surprised by the location; right on a very busy express-way with just a shutter and window to try and block the noise out. San Giorgio is in Bergamo, which is a walled city, but the hotel is quite a distance from the walled old town, too far to walk easily, and requires a change of transport part-way from bus to cable-car, challeniging unless you speak italiano! It's locality close to the railway suited us well to go back into Milan for a day trip was easy(and cheap). We haven't stayed inmany 2 stars hotels to compare with, but the quad room was cramped and dark, tho had nice art-work!

We only stayed one night, but were treated with courtesy and efficiency. We had 2 single rooms which were NOT the traditonal broom cupboard size! We did not go en suite, for one night, but the rooms had adequate washing facilities and lovely clean towels. The beds were comfortable, too. Our first time in Bergamo. We stayed in the hotel in a room with an ensuite bathroom for 3 nights and we found it good. The staff were very helpful, there was enough space in the room for our travel cot (3 month old baby). The hotel is a short walk from the rail and bus stations and about a half hour walk (or 15 min walk and 10 min bus) from Bergamo High Town. There are a few good restaurants nearby. The room and bathroom were clean and serviced daily, but the lighting a bit dingy. The hotel is very near the main railway lines to Bergamo so is a bit noisy, and with no AC and very thick walls, it was hot at night in the room at the end of June (too many mosquitos outside to leave the windows open). Overall, we would stay there again and recommend the hotel as a budget place to spend your nights.

San Giorgio Hotel is ideally placed for those who are passing through Bergamo as we were as it's a short walk from the bus and railway stations and where the Airport Bus drops off. Rooms are basic, a little dated but clean and comfortable. There are no hotel facilities to speak of beyond a couple of vending machines, but as we were there for just one night and it's only a short walk into the (new) city centre that wasn't a problem. The main thing to be aware of is that is located on a main route into the city and by the railway line and as a result is very noisy almost througout the night, especially if you are in one of the outer facing rooms as we were, so I'd recommend some quality earplugs.
