Not too easy to find - Le Château du Doux is some 3 or 4 Kms uphill out of Altillac off the D41 - but is worth the search ! Remote and quiet with an excellent menu, the hotel is an ideal place to relax after a day's sight-seeing or shopping in nearby Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne. The evening menu provided a good selection of meals (Confit-de-Canard to die for) taken in a stately dining room that allows spectacular views of the surrounding countryside - and Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne. The hotel staff were pleasant and most welcoming although service at dinner tended to be a little erratic when busy, but with a good selection of wines - and the great food - who cares ? Le Château du Doux is an excellent hotel for those seeking a quieter stay in a unique building with beautiful surroundings. Don't let the relatively cheap room prices put you off - it's fantastic value for money and has to be highly recommended. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay.

We understand that certain members of staff have special needs but we found the service we received in the restaurants very poor. At breakfast we had problems as the waiter had removed almost all food and tea / coffee and then started moving the tables and chairs around the room as we were trying to eat. The night we booked an evening meal we were ignored for forty minutes so for the rest of our stay we ate in the local restaurants instead. It's a great shame because the Chateau itself is a superb building but just seems badly organised.

Our two night stay here was the best part of our two week holiday travelling through France and Spain. The hotel was wonderful, in such beautiful surroundings, peaceful, relaxing - a real haven. The staff were delightful, the room clean and comfortable and the food was absolutely superb and so reasonably priced. Dinner on the terrace overlooking the stunning views was a treat not to be missed. The whole ethos and character of the hotel and what it sets out to do was marvellous. We will definitely stay here again and recommend others to do so too.

The best value of any accomodation on a month long trip to France. Unbelievable location on top of a mountain overlooking the river. Service was exceptional. Dinner on the terrace overlooking the valley was superb. We wish we would have stayed longer than 2 nights. We spent over twice as much for a stay in the Loire Valley for much less of a facility. A real sleeper.

we made our reservation 6 month in prior. by arrival our rooms were not available... the children (4) had to sleep in different rooms on different floors.

Fué una esadía muy agradable, hubiéramos deseado que fuera al menos 3 noches, el lugar es muy bello y tranquilo. En los alrrededores hay muchao pueblos y lugares que vale la pena conocer, es un lugar para volver.

Any problems came from the website! The location map on the internet bears no resemblance to where it actually is and emails sent to the hotel through Venere were not answered. The hotel and staff were excellent - it's not a posh chateau (has more of a student digs feel) but excellent value and the only way we could afford to stay in a chateau. And it's a stunning setting with gorgeous views of the river and valley
