The Hotel Colón is right in the centre of Barcelona, a few minutes walk from two Metro stations and only five minutes walk from Placa Catalunya. We got to the hotel quite early, having travelled overnight from Paris by train. Although we only expected to be able to leave our baggage somewhere secure, the hotel reception staff insisted on finding us a room and we were in a excellent room on the fourth floor, by 9.15 am.

I cannot say enough about the Hotel Colon. I wouldn't have chosen any other hotel property -- even if I had the choice of any regardless of price. The rooms were clean, well appointed and comfortable. We were given a cathedral view, even though we paid for a room without a view. The hotel staff was excellent. Finally, the location is the best in the city -- by far. I love this hotel, and would stay again in a heartbeat!!

Hotel Colon is a good choice for those who look for a good relationship between price/quality, and great location.
The personnel is extremelly kind and professional.
My (single) room and bathroom were ok: a bit small and old but celan and very quite.

Excellent also for quietness (information from web were not excellent).
The prices applied with venere.com were lower than official price list.
Some problem with breakfast: in the hotel is too expensive (15€/person/day+tax) and in the surrounding the bars opens not before 10.00 in the morning.

Ah, this hotel was wonderful. The rooms are just beautiful and our room was huge. The staff speak English well (even a staff member from Seattle!) and the location is great. We were a short walk to Las Ramblas. We got to the hotel easily by subway from the train station.

The only comment we have is that we paid "extra" to have a room with a view of the cathedral and unfortunately the cathedral was under construction and therefore covered in scaffolding!! The location really couldn't be beat though, close to lots of shopping, eating, Las Ramblas....everything else was great. The room was kept clean and we were happy with our stay.

Hotel Colon is in a prime location, opposite the cathedral in the bari gothic district of the city. It is close to the La Rambles and Catalunya Square. The Hotel itself is very pleasant, the bar area fairly quiet, and dining area quite formal. Breakfast wasnt included but was quite expensive, however there are many places close to the hotel to grab a coffee and toast etc. All in all a pleasant hotel great location, could find hotels for less dollars but the location paid for itself.

The hotel was beautiful, better than the pictures, with a fantastic location in the heart of Barcelona. We are two older women traveling together. Booked the lowest priced double and was upgraded to a view of the cathedral and plaza below our 3rd floor window/balcony. The plaza was full of holiday vender stalls and a lot of activity. Had some concern about noise but when we close the balcony doors our room was quiet and very comfortable. Good beds and space in the room. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Common areas were clean and very well maintained. Breakfast buffet was a little expensive but offered a wide variety to choose from with excellent service and was very good. Don’t pass up the FRESH squeezed orange juice. Thank you, we had a great time
I had never booked a hotel via an internet site until now so I had concerns. I will definitely use Venere again.

The only hotel for us in Barcelona when we want to treat ourselves. Central, warm, welcoming especially in December with the Fira De Santa Lucia right outside the door, the cathedral opposite and the Ramblas a few minutes away.

A well located hotel in the Gothic Quarter where we had a lovely stay, good sized room and bathroom.Good view of the Cathedral from our 5th floor room, pity half of it is covered in scaffold.Carpet was a little dirty but this is our only minus point.1 or 2 staff a little offhand but mostly very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is surrounded by small restaurants in the side streets so plenty of places to eat from cheap to expensive.Big plus point is the short distance to walk to Las Ramblas the main Plaza and the beach.

Could not have picked a better place. Location right next to the cathedral is excellent, very close to La Rambla and easy to get to the beach. The room was perhaps a bit smaller than expected, but for one person was still easily big enough, and along with the bathroom was very clean. My room was at the back of the building overlooking a lane with the occassional noisy moped, but closing the windows effectively blocked out any noise and the building itself was very quiet. I highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again the next time I visit Barcelona!

Very spacious and comfortable room. Young American bellman was the best employee we encountered---friendly, competent and professional. Some of the other front desk personnel a bit on the chilly side, with one actually chasing my travel companion out the front door the morning of checkout because he thought she was leaving without paying. (I had already paid the bill and was talking with the bellman outside the front door.) The hotel is within walking distance from the airport bus stop at Plaza Catalunya---about 2 and 1/2 blocks, but on a pedestrian-only street. Starbucks for morning coffee is one block away, and with Barcelona prices, it's a good place for breakfast. Hotel is conveniently close to the Ramblas, the excellent and user-friendly Metro as well as many restaurants. With traffic being heavy all the time, use the Metro to get to landmarks such as Familia Sagadra Cathedral Casa Mila, both "don't miss" places to visit. I would definitely stay at this hotel again due to location and quality of rooms.

overall an excellent hotel.
I had one of the rooms at the back of the hotel without the view which would normally be fine since they are usually the quietest, however the hotel was renovating on the floor above me which was a problem. The hotel provided me with complimentary breakfast as compensation for the disruption, I thought that was quite adequate.
The hotel location can not be faulted, the staff were friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would most certainly stay there again.
Wireless internet access cost 10 euro for 24 hours.. however if you have a wireless network detector (the type that hangs off your keyring) you can easily find free access in the bars around the hotel.. just ask.

I stayed at Colon Hotel twice - 4 nights total. Rooms are very clean and tidy. Though the carpets are a bit dated. But hey you will not be sleeping on the carpet so it hardly matters! Location is best in all of Barcelona. Walking distance to Las Rambalas, Catalunya Square, and all the best shopping areas. Rates offered on website do not advertise whether inclusive of breakfast or not. But there is a Starbucks a stone throw away and quaint cafes on the Cathedral square as soon as you step out of the Hotel. Would stay at Colon when I visit again. Cheers !

A very enjoyable break in Barcelona. Although paying the lowest rate advertised for a double room, we had a Cathedral view, although still covered in scaffolding, on the fifth floor. The Christmas Market in the plaza was in full swing from morning to night, but did not bother us. Staff were helpful when asked for anything and spoke much better English than our Spanish. We did not use the restuarant, but followed previous comments and breakfasted in the 2 cafes across the square, which both supplied an excellent cooked breakfast. Would definately use this hotel again, especially for its central location.

Very courteous staff; they speak English in reception (a plus for a short visit by someone who doesn't speak Spanish). Comfortable and secure (safe is provided free with room). Right in the courtyard facing the Barcelona Cathedral, you can easily walk to several places of interest including the Picasso Museum.

Splendid hotel, great location. Our room had a huge terrrace with plants, comfortable chairs and a view at the cathedral towers. Down at the square the hotel has a lovely terrace to meet friends and have a drink. Good service too; we ordered several taxis at the desk. Hotel Colon, we will be back.

Very nice hotel, in a wonderful place, in the hearth of the ancient city. Easy to reach from the Marina and from Playa Cataluna and close to the Metro station. The only thing I can say to a tourist is "watch the prices of the Veranda Bar" (expecially if you dine there).

This is a lovely and comfortable hotel and cathedral views fantastic (on 5th floor). I cannot fault the service and rooms and hotel is so central. Breakfast was great but also used the cafe opposite (as mentioned by previous visitor, thanks!) for a lighter start to the day. We did not eat there in the evening. Air con was good so a real relief on returning to our room. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Barcelona, though relatively expensive, you get what you paid for.

The location was great, right across from the Cathedral. I was greeted with some skepticism - perhaps I did not appear like their "typical" guest? The room was nice, the TV was small, and a few lightbulbs did not work.

Great hotel brilliant location. The first room we had was too noisy at night, when we informed the staff we were moved to another room which was superb.
We would use this hotel again and would recommend it to our friends.
We had a wonderful time in Barcelona and this hotel was a major part of making it wonderful.

The hotel Colon is centrally located and within walking distance to many attractions and shopping. My wife and I are both retired and found it easy to get around without a car from this hotel. It is clean and the staff was very helpful. I would highly recommend the Colon for the quality/price it provides.

For any tourist trip you really want to make sure you're in the right location, and the Hotel Colon is ideally situated. Plus, the rooms are pretty nice and the staff is very helpful. The rates seem to vary quite a bit, but I found a double room (non-view) on venere.com for 105 euros, which I thought was a great deal. As of Dec 2005 the cathedral across the plaza is undergoing renovations, so I wouldn't spend the money for a view room.
