Great location, very friendly staff. Had a really nice room with a balcony and a view over the valley below. Spotlessly clean. If I had a crib, it's a small one, it was that the breakfast was a bit uninspiring. I know breakfasts aren't an italian speciality, but the coffee was almost cold from the dispenser and I'd have liked some fresh (not tinned) fruit, but all in all it was a very pleasant stay.

Loved the Umbra! Perfect location and helpful and friendly service. The small bus that serves the town starts and stops from the piazza just outside the hotel. We used it liberally, riding up to the upper levels and sightseeing our way down. When we were at the bottom and tired, we would take the bus back up to the stop near the hotel. With 5 nights in Assisi, we walked nearly every street, including up to the castle. The town and the hotel were absolutely perfect!

We were treated very well by all staff, and this location was delightful, although not walking distance from the train. The hotel is in the heart of historic Assisi. The rooms are spacious and comfortably furnished. I especially loved the views from the windows and walkout terraces in the hallways. The restaurant was semi-formal and excellant
food and service. I wished I had an extra day to enjoy.

The Hotel Umbra was a wonderful place to stay in Assisi. I highly recommend it. I just loved this hotel!!! Set in the center of Assisi, all major sites are within walking distance. The staff were VERY friendly and helpful in every way. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay in one of the most beautiful, holy places in Italy! I totally enjoyed my stay here and recommend it to anyone going to Assisi. If I do go back, this is where I would hope to stay!!! However, if driving (I was on foot), one must drop off their luggage first and then park their car in one of the parking lots around the city and walk back, so heads up on that.

The Hotel is in the most convenient loaction to all the sites. The staff were very warm and friendly and welcoming. There is a wonderful garden restaurant with regional specialities that was a beautiful place to dine. There are terraces on the second level where guests can sit and look out upon parts of the town and parts of Umbria beyond. I found the prices most reasonable too. We just had a wonderful time here and I highly recommend Hotel Umbra.

Although the staff was very pleasant, our room was plain and ordinary. The carpet probably had not been replaced in many years based on its appearance and odor, and the bathroom included a very basic shower stall and bath sink. Hopefully all rooms in this hotel will be refurbished. Based on our room, I didn't understand why this hotel was so highly reviewed.

The Hotel Umbra had us at "Buonasera". It was all we hoped for and more. This was our third road trip in Italy and even the directions to the hotel were perfect - wish my husband had followed them in the first place. You enter Assisi at Porta San Francesco, and go one way and up until you reach Piazza del Commune. At that point we dropped off the suitcases, and then my husband took the car to the parking lot about 500 meters away. Upon entering the lobby, we were greeted by the most charming gentleman (wish I had gotten his name) who showed us to our room (#34 to be exact). When he opened the curtains to the small balcony and the view of the Assisi and valley below, I was thrilled. There are two easy chairs facing the view and one afternoon my husband and I bought bread and meats from a salumeria and ate lunch with the windows open and a lovely breeze from the cross ventilation. A wonderful memory. The room was huge, quiet, cool; the bathroom large. Very nice breakfast. The hotel had a lovely terrace just off the lobby, and various terraces throughout the building to enjoy the views or that last glass of wine at night. The hotel is in the throes of some restoration but it didn't impact us in the least. I asked one of the staff how old the building was, and she said the foundation dates to Roman times. The location was perfect for exploring the town but be prepared for walks up and down hills. But you'll face that anywhere in the old town! Would we return to Hotel Umbra? Absolutely! Tomorrow if I could.

What a great choice! The Umbra is right on the main and central square of town, convenient to everything. It has beautiful views of the Umbrian countryside from every room and lovely public patios and balconies. It also has a delightful dining room under a canopy of grapes. We only stayed one night. Shame on us!

This place is a real gem- one of our favorite places on our recent trip to Italy. We would happily stay here again. Our twin room was spacious, quiet, and very well-ventilated. We had a balcony and a beautiful view of the Umbrian countryside from our room #34. Location of the hotel was very convenient to everything. The staff were always extremely kind and helpful. Free Internet access and printer available off the hotel lobby. The hotel has a lovely garden restaurant- we enjoyed dinner here very much- we highly recommend. Ask for the local Assisi red wine!

We had only one night at the hotel but it was very nice. The trip was in mid-October so the hotel was quite empty. You couldn't find a place closer to the town center but the town's not that big anyway. The hotel is down a small alley so there was virtually no noise.
They have several very nice west facing patios for watching the sun set over the adjacent valley. Nice way to end the day.
The only inconvenience is the parking. It's a ten minute walk from the municpal parking area to the hotel. Get a good map if you are driving as we circled the town a few times trying to figure out where we were. Park in the lot north-east of the town center. The hotel provided a "discount coupon" for parking that cut the daily rate to about 10 Euros...it would get expensive I suppose if you were staying for several days, but I doubt anyone stays for more than a single nite very often.
The hotel restaurant was closed. Breakfast was quite good....the typical fare.

My wife and I spent 2 nights at Hotel Umbra in October 2005. The hotel's location is perfect for visiting Assisi, right off the central piazza. The hotel sent us directions on how to reach the piazza by car, and where to leave it in a nearby public parcheggio. We had a comfortable, quiet room and enjoyed one dinner at the hotel's restaurant.

On the quietness...there was construction on our side of the hotel. While it was off putting, it was no fault of the hotel. Since we didn't use any of the public areas we were not comfortable w/any rating other than neutral. The breskfast buffet was one of the most varied we've seen in hotels of this class. The staff did a great job of replenishing. Be sure the include the resturant in your visit it was exvcellent. The room was the largest and the bathroom the most comfortable in any of our 4 stops. The front desk person we saw most often was a delight. We would unequivically recommend the Umbra to anyone. A great bag for your buck ;o) !

This was one of my favorite places to stay on our six-week trip. We had a little difficulty getting to the hotel by car to drop luggage but the hotel clerk was very helpful in his directions. The hotel is about a block off the busy center of town, down a covered walkway, but it is extremely quiet once you enter the property. Our room looked out over the rooftops of Assisi and into the beautiful valley with mountains in the distance. The furnishings, carpet, bathroom tile, etc., could probably stand to be updated, but it was certainly spotless and it wasn't a big drawback. We had a narrow balcony to sit on above a religious hostel and there was some noise in the evenings from their guests meeting outside. It was very pleasant to listen to their chatter and wasn't too late to interrupt our sleep. At all times the hotel personnel were kind and helpful, and each could speak enough English to help us with our bad Italian. There was a separate room with a computer where guests could use the internet for free. We had dinner outside in the beautiful restaurant our last night under the spreading branches of an ancient wisteria and other vines, and the food was the best we had in Assisi - lots of truffles, don't miss the experience!

One of the nicest places that we stayed at! Nice facility and employees, quite locale, and an excellent hotel restaurant. If you want a change of pace for dining, "La Fortezza" is just a few meters away for incredible dining.

A charming hotel in a great position, with helpful and friendly staff. The food at breakfast & dinner was excellent. The furniture and decorations in our room were a little tired, but set against all the plusses, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel

Our stay at the Umbra hotel was our best stop in Italy! The restraunt was SUPERB! the hotel employees were warm and welcoming, and the price was very reasonable for the size and wuality of the room. I am going to make it a point of returning to Assisi and the hotel Umbra, using it as a home base to explore Umbria mor thouroughly.

The hotel was charming but the heat did not work at ALL for the first three days of our visit. I thought the room was outrageously overpriced for what was actually provided. Especially considering we were freezing. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful but I could never
recommend this hotel or your service for what we recieved at the rate you charged us. We were disappointed.

The Umbra is HEAVEN! Its location is perfect and they found a place for us to park in the very traffic restricted Assisi. The staff could not have been more wonderful - welcoming, informative, etc. The breakfast was the best we had anywhere in Europe. I will stay at the Umbra whenever I am in Italy. I could not recommend it more highly!!

All of the hotels that we used were excellent. The Duomo in Siena was a little stark but it was a great location.
I was thrilled that I could make all these accommadations over the Internet. Otherwise I would have had to use a travel agent and spent a lot more money.
Thank you for having such a competent site available.

The Umbria was a wonderful hotel with a great location. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The room was large, double bed and one single. No air was on but a man at the desk said we would not need it at night and he was right. Only fear was that the birds would fly into the windows! Breakfast was ok, we got there at the tail end so not alot of choices left. The resturant was closed that night, a Sunday so unfortunately we could not try it, but it looked lovely. We would definitely recommened this hotel. We did get stuck in the town the next day due to a train strike, but overall a nice visit.

Great hotel for a quiet, peaceful stay. It's location is perfect. Right in the midst of the Piazza Comune (center). It's rather old, but how modern is anything in Assisi. But, it was always clean. Plus, if you can get a room with a terrace, just that makes it worth it. (Just request for one and you might be in luck) Even if you don't get a private terrace, there are public ones that I never saw being used so it might as well be private. The breakfast was mediocre (blah). Get some fruit from a market instead. The hotel restaurant has a nice outdoor ambience (partial view, vine covered, playful cat) The employees were always helpful (I believe it is run by one family) City and hotel are highly recommended for a perfect Italian respite.

I had a very good stay. Room was not cramped and had a nice view of the hillside. Washroom didn't have a separate shower enclosure, but was completely modern and clean. Breakfast was excellent, with hot food in addition to the usual continental selection. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The staff at Umbra were excellent and very helpful. We had to make a last minute change to our reservation and they were extremely accomodating. The location was the best in Assisi! The rooms were neat and clean and ours was quite large, but the furnishing were a bit old. Overall, it was a nice little inn with good quality for the price.

A wonderful stay in a very elegant and pleasant hotel. The web page helped us to choose exactly the type of hotel we wanted. The price quoted on the webpage was lower than the hotel's actual prices, but we only had to pay the prices confirmed through the web page.

This was a nice, quiet hotel in a noisy, tourist town. However, it was cold at night and the hotel would not provide any heat. Also, we were booked in the most expensive room without realizing that less expensive options are available. The staff is very helpful and charming. Transporting luggage can be a problem from the car park, as the police will not let you drive across the piazza to drop off. The restaurant of the hotel is not what it once was.

A slice of Paradise in busy Assisi - within a few steps, one leaves the bustle of the main town square and is in a green, serene environment.
Only negative - getting to the hotel by car is certainly an adventure - particularly when the streets are full of people.

A delightful, little hotel tucked away in the quiet, magical atmosphere of the mediaeval backstreets that lead out onto the Piazza del Comune (Town Hall), the Umbra was opened at the beginning of the century and has been owned and run by the same family ever since.
