Our reservation was not honored. Hotel was full when we arrived and staff arranged for us to stay in another property down the street (San Rufino). Although other hotel was also fine, it was farther from public parking. In fact, we had chosen our hotel based on the parking distance. Breakfast in San Rufino was good, but our room was quite noisy. We could hear the phone ringing in the front desk, which was unattended during the night but someone kept calling. We could also easily talk to our neighbors next door.

Loved Assisi! This hotel was in a great location at the top of town with great views! The only negative is that the room we had did not have a window, but instead a door that opened to a shared balcony.

Best location in all of Assisi. Near Piazza Matteotti bus stop and away from most tourist traffic. Near the most attractive streets in Assisi with a beautiful view of the countryside nearby. The staff was friendly and accomodating, and the dinner was good. Breakfasts consisted of cereal, juice, homemade bundt cake, coffee, tea. It was quiet although one night they were hosting a party that was loud, but they stopped at a reasonable time.

I received so much more than I expected. Got a double room in a new building which had only been in use for one month. The service from restaurant as well as cleaning personnel was absolutely excellent. You will find a very friendly atmosphere in this Family Hotel.

Hotel La Rocca is excellent. A tip: the prices in the hotel cafe and restaurante are very low comparing to the rest of the city. And the food is very good too. I recomend it. The hotel is really close to the rocca (castel).

A minor problem was that the television in one room did not work - a cable was missing.

E' improbabile che mi fermi altre volte ad Assisi, avendola già visitata a lungo, ma nel caso, questo sarà il mio prossimo albergo. Aggiungo che ci si arriva e lo si trova facilmente, sebbene in un centro storico.

The hotel is quite simple, but nice and clean. The room was quite small and cold, but good blankets were provided. The hotel is inside the walls and in a walking distance to everywhere in the city. The staff was not very pleasant, they didn't gave much information about the city. The breakfast is not included and I preferred to eat in a bar outside. The parking is paid but just in front of the hotel, quite nice. They don't accept credit cards.

This is a lovely place to stay with welcoming staff and an excellent location. It ticked all our boxes.Driving into these pretty Italian walled cities is difficult. Do your homework first. We had a great meal in the hotel's restaurant. It appears to have little ambience but when the Italians sit down, it is an altogether great experience - and the food was great - really great.

-Lacking aircondition on hot august nights. You can hear your loud and female german neighbours snorring, since the windows of the rooms are 1 meter appart. -The restaurant offers excellent italian food and vine. Location is good, however free parking is only available at a public area a bit from the hotel, so parking kosts 6 euro pr. day.

La Rocca is a fine place to stay. Of course, it´s a cheap hotel, so one cannot expect a five star standard. But alone the view from the restaurant roof is worth the stay! The staff was very friendly and flexible (vegetarian meals). We liked the hotel was situated a bit away from the centre. We gladly recommend the hotel!

A lovely hotel in very scerinic surroundings. Stayed for 2 nights, the staff were very helpfull and all points of interest are within a 10 min walking distance. Just 2 mins walk down hill to St Ruffino's and 3 mins away from dell commune. A wanderful hotel highley reccommended. I will definately stay there again. Only bad point is that it is at the top of the town so any journey back to the hotel involves a journey back up the very baeutiful but steep pathways, but there is a regular bus service that drops you off 100m from hotel.

Location was excellent. Pay car parking is just in front of the hotel. At night it was noisy by young guys at restautant but until 11pm.

The hotel is a bit difficult to find, but well worth the search. We enjoyed our stay immensely and only wished we had spent more time there. Assisi on a weekend night is not to be missed. There is always something happening on the Piazza Comune. What a special place.

A lovely hotel in a lovely city. It was my first night in Italy and the staff is helpful and nice. Though the room is not very spacious, but it is very clean and well maintained. Besides, it is not far from the bus stop. A good palce to stay in the beautiful city!

Rooms on the first floor are very noise on weekends, it´s impossible to sleep because of the steps on the stairs and the people talking in the restaurant above your head. Towels have very bad quality. Bathroom is very small and there is no box. The shower and the toilet share the same space. No soap and shampoo provided. However, the location is very good and the staff is nice.

I chose this hotel because it was some way away from the Basilica so I thought it would be quieter. How wrong was I. Be warned. THIS HOTEL CATERS FOR SCHOOL PARTIES. A group of Austrian children were there for the first two nights of my stay and preparations were being made for the arrival of another group as I left. I suppose it could have been worse - the noise subsided a little after 11.00pm and only one of the children was sick. The presence of a large school party may have had something to do with the fact that none of the staff smiled during the entirety of my stay - although I had very little contact with them, reception was almost always unmanned and I kept the key card I was given on arrival with me at all times. As regards breakfast, this was meagre and was probably the worst breakfast I have ever had in Italy. Had I realised I had paid for bed only I would have saved the exhorbitant €5 charged and gone to a local bar instead. I was unable to alter the temperature of the air conditioning in my room so had to open my window to take advantage of the welcome breeze from the mountains although this did mean there was some outside noise. The only posistive comment I can make is about the view from the bedroom window which was breathtaking. Oh, and the bus terminal is only a two minute walk from the hotel which makes for a nice quick getaway.

Lovely and cheap hotel with it's own restaurant that serves very yummy food. The bathroom was teeny tiny but still the room was excellent value for money - this was one of the best places we stayed at while in Italy!

The receptionist hung up on me when I called to ask a question. I'm not the hardest customer to please, but this seems a bit over the edge. This is definitly not a fancy place as the shower basically has a toilet and sink in it and there's no heating, as it was a bit rainy so a little cold in october. Thankfully the older guys that worked there the next morning were much more helpful and much nicer than the girl the night before. She seriously got angry because I couldn't understand what "yrmp" meant. I mean, maybe she was busy or something, i don't know.

(stayed for one night Easter 05) Lovely setting - overlooking valley at the back of Assisi (though our room did not have this view). Location is at the other end of town to the Basilica but Assisi isn't really very big and nice to wander through, there are plenty of eating places around, and I preferred being in the less touristy part of town. Also you can drive to the hotel without going through the centre and easy to park outside. Overall v good value - would go back, but hope for room with the fantastic view next time!

We stayed at Hotel LaRocca last fall while traveling through Italy. We absolutely loved it. The location was perfect... just a short distance from the bus stop. Our room was bright and clean. We have recommended LaRocca to others both in the States and in Italy. The value is excellent!

Excellent location within the ciry walls on the far side of town which makes finding it a bit of a treasure hunt. But everyone in town was very nice in helping us on our way. Our room had a great view but was adjacent to the outer ring road which made for some nightime noise. Our friends were in another room with no traffic noise but not as good of a view so take your pick. La Rocca has a hardly used veranda on the 2nd floor with that same view...we undid several bottles of wine there watching the townsfolk below and and valley beyond. We got a sense that La Rocca is a bit of a locals place which we found charming...not the usual touristy feeling. The staff was friendly and the only downside to our visit was that the air conditioning was not working when we were there. For the money it was maybe the best value we had in 17 days of Rome, Umbria and Tuscany.

The hotel is located in a quiet, non-touristic part of town, which was quite nice. The hotel itself is quiet and is in a relatively quiet neighborhood. Customers need to know that the advertised lift is for baggage only, in case stairs are a problem. We were given accommodations we requested and our arrival was expected. Nice breakfast compared to other places we stayed.

Try to get there before night-time. Location in map is OK, but difficult to find due to the complexity of the town (narrow streets, etc). Dinner is served till 8:15pm only. At 6am you will be awaken by the bells of a nearby curch.

I do not know if you received a comment before this. I moved something around me and my computer got disconnected. We thought that La Rocca was going to be a very beautifyl experience, all the comments, but one , were good. We should have paid attention to the bad comment that spoke about racial discrimination. We are hispanic and arrived at the hotel in the same taxi from the train station with a white american woman, the treatment was so grossly different it was disgusting. The woman claimed not to have anything with a picture for ID, not even her passport but they continued to be very nice with her, smile after smile, well, not with us, rush rush for the papers and the only man that speaks English gave us a bad very limited information of what we could see that day. Thank God we had been to three other cities before that and were given the royal treatment at every place, otherwise we would have thought that all Italians are that prejudist. The combo bath of shower with no separation from the toilet was disgusting, to say the least and NO as other comments say it is not a common thing in Italy, none of the other B&B where we stayed had that problem. OH!!!!!!! but the worse was yet to come when we came back that night after doing the regular visiting of the church and other places, to find out that there is no air conditioner, at a temperature of 108 Farenheit (42 C) imagine the night that we had. Thank God it was only for one night. NEVER EVER again would we stay at La Rocca and will make sure that many friends and family that plan on going to Italy in the comming months do not go to La Rocca

I suspect this hotel is excellent for couples. For a single woman it was awful and I checked out after 1 nightinstead of staying the reserved 3. given very small 3rd floor room (no air conditioning) with view of bedroom in next house 1 metre away. Table for dinner and breakfast in a corner facing the cleaning cupbaord. Not allowed (!) to sit on terrace although it was empty. Had to ask for butter and honey for breakfast - small basket of stale rolls on tbale. Generally very unwlecoming

Outstanding place to stay. The kindly older gentlemen is the owner and should be (is) very proud of his establishment. On your way toward Rocca Maggiore, just before you get to the "porto" existing the city proper, make a u-turn down. Quickly, you will find a passageway to your left big enough for one car to pass through. Immediately on your right side is La Rocca hotel. Drop your bags, reverse your car and continue to the outdoor free car park over- looking the mountains and valley below. Be sure to park past the blue P sign (for non-residents.)The younger staff speak fluent English. Room was newly renovated, spacious, and clean. Double w/bath. Very modern ammenities, including TV without English language programming and phone. Bathroom - spectacular. A/C unit present but not paid for and not needed in early June. Electronic card key. Towels and soaps provided. Lift. Breakfast 4.50 euros, not tried. A restaurant is on the premises, but not sampled. Just a pleasant walk on gentle slope to square (Church of S. Chiara). On the far side of square is a take out/dine in pizza place with OUTSTANDING pizza. The near side of the square features a bar with cheap internet access. San Francesco is a little bit of a walk, but Assisi is pleasant enough not to really notice. Take the bus back to Piazza Matteotti. Hotel is two minute walk, but check directions. If using Rick Steves, skip the "roman amphitheater" he mentions in his walking tour. It's very close by La Rocca, but a real waste of time and directions can be confusing. Start at S. Chiara. 46 euros per night, two nights, would gladly return. Only complaint - neighborhood quiet, but our window faced the hotels annex, which was noisy (I think they may wash the dishes there.) No noise after 11:30 pm. Bothersome to light sleepers, others should be OK.
