We paid 440 Euros for 4 nights at the Singel in March 08. Whilst not the cheapest hotel available we opted for the Singel for location and, based on other reports, the cleanliness, welcome and facilities. Overall, we felt we got just that. Our pleasant small room fronted the Singel canal which was a bonus as this is not guaranteed. The staff make this hotel special as they are so cheerful, informed and happy to help. I would heartily recommend the Singel for short breaks to this lovely city.

First time our party of 6 have stayed in the Singel, but we'd thoroughly recommend. The rooms are fairly small, but that is the norm for Amsteram. The rooms are very clean, as is the rest of the hotel. Staff are all very polite. Breakfast is good ,with plenty of it.

Travelled with my 2 teenagers. Hotel in ideal location - only 10 min walk from station but in quiet district on lovely canal.Small hotel but staff v friendly and helpful. Good continental breakfast. Not much space in our triple room but clean with everything we needed including room safe. Especially liked the fact that we could leave our luggage after checking out until we were ready to go to the station which meant another days sightseeing before our evening flight home. Would stay here again.

The room was typical for Amsterdam i.e the bedroom was compact and the bathroom was as small as it could physically be. We had a room at the rear of the building which was very quiet. Rooms at the front overlooking the Singel are probably noisier.
The hotel is excellent, being well sited and very convenient for both Centraal station and the sights of central Amsterdam. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was a tad limited but the coffee was good. We will certainly consider staying there on any future visits.

A nice middleclass hotel. Central in Amsterdam. Suits travellers who wants comfort but not luxury. We found everything in a walking distance from the hotel. The staff was friendly and gave good service.

Single, older female just wanting to sleep. Couldn't check in until afternoon, but was able to leave luggage. The day staff was very friendly and helpfull. only oneperson on in the evening and she seemed very frustrated by minor requests, so much so that I hesitated asking about the heat. The next day she was in a much better mood, but there was more staff to support her. The room and breakfast were okay, nothing fancy. Neighborhood felt a bit edgy after dark, but I went out anyway and no harm. Kept my eyes and ears open like any city girl avoiding individuals who wanted to start something; they were loaded and loud, but I just kept walking. Very convenient to the Central Station on the Singel Canal.

Hotel staff was very pleasant, room was clean, and beds were comfortable. Only one complaint: There was no liquid soap in the dispenser in the shower, which was an unpleasant surprise at 6:00 in the morning when we had a flight to catch. That seems like a pretty basic thing for the cleaning staff to check every time they clean a room. Other than that, no complaints - location is fantastic, just a 5 minute walk from the Central Station.

The Singel hotel was a great find. Very close to the centre but not close enough to be disturbed by noise. Very friendly staff were very welcoming on arrival, we arrived at 10:00am and check in was not until 12:00pm but we asked if we could have the room any earlier and it was ready for 11:00am. Our room was on the 4th floor, it took a bit of time to realise that we had to walk outside along the roof gully to get to our room (sounds a bit strange but was quite nice!). Breakfast was good if you like it continental, personally I would have loved a fry up!! The room we had was small but cosy, certainly big enough for the money we paid. All in all I would definitely recommend the Hotel Singel.

This hotel was as expected from reading the reviews on this site but I found it quite peaceful, except if noisy people were passing my door. We had our window open during the nights and there was no noise from outside. I was charged about 30 Euros more than quoted on the website but the only slightly annoying thing that happened during my stay was upon arrival, the desk clerk was on an "important personal call" and I had to wait about 10 mins to check in and get the key to our room.
It was about a 10 min walk from Central Station and maybe 10 mins walk to Anne Franks House in the opposite direction. Everytime we walked by, the line was too long though, so we didn't get to see it.
Oh, one thing I found strange, the shower has no barrier for the water around the floor (besides a shower curtain), so you have to be careful not to splash too much water around as your entire bathroom floor might get wet!
Try the Patas from the vendors along the street.. steak cut fries served with mayonniase in a paper cone. They are the best after a visit to a coffeeshop!
If I was to visit Amsterdam again on a budget, I might stay at this hotel, but I would prefer to upgrade.

We've spent a good holiday, good breakfast, good service, employees very gentle. Unfortunately the first day we arrived, we founded an incredible number of big spiders in our room. It's been impossible to sleep in there. Ww had another room, but it was very small and with the view on the wall.

Overall, we were happy with the hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel was perfect for us - less than 10 mins walk from Central Station and within walking distance of most parts of the city centre. The room was quite small but clean and had everything we needed. The bathroom was clean but only problem was that as there was no shower tray, the water went everywhere when you had a shower and it was nearly impossible to stop it flooding into the room! As it was quite warm when we were there, we had to keep the windows open at night but it can get a bit noisy, especially when we were woken up at 6am by the guys loading the laundry into the van, just below our window!! Apart from those 2 negatives, we would stay at the Singel Hotel again as we found it to be very welcoming and safe.

It's a very short walk to Centraal station which is very convenient for early departure. The canal is beautiful and my room was in the back and very quiet. The neighborhood is generally very good, but it is a block from the red light district. You'd never know during the day but it is active at night. Very close to Dam Square and a couple of blocks from the trams. Overall great.

Very nice property. Small rooms, but reasonable rate. We had way too much luggage as we had just come off of a cruise (QM2), but it was an easy walk from the train station with our wheeled luggage. We were were able to store all of our clothes, and while the empty suitcases were in the entry from the hallway, they weren't in the way. The hotel is exactly as advertised; small, clean, charming, friendly, convenient and reasonably priced. We loved Amsterdam. If we were staying more than 3 nights or planned on spending more time in our rooms, we might consider an upgraded hotel, but the Singel was "as advertised" and constitutes an excellent value.

The location and friendliness of the staff could not be beat, and they serve a good breakfast as well. The rooms and halls could use just a bit of TLC, but the beds are comfortable. This is a nice hotel and I would stay there again. Try for a room overlooking the canal -- we enjoyed ours.
