The hotel is good for its value, but located around 30 mins by tram from the city center. The local transport is overall good in Amsterdam, but at the end of the day when you are tired you dont like to travel so much. The hotel is located in a peaceful area but there is nothing much available around the hotel. The hotel staff was really very helpful and polite. The breakfast was also good but was not included in the room price. It costed 12.5 Euros per head. Overall a nice stay. Would surely like to visit again but 1st choice would be to look for a option in the city center.

not somewhere you would choose to stay unless you had few other options in Amsterdam, it is not close to downtown, it is not right beside the RAI or Airport. The rooms and hotel are old and the bathrooms are very poor for a 3 star hotel. The breakfast is average at best. I made a mistake paying more per night than my partner who stayed at the brand new Movenpick right downtown, big mistake on my part, don´t be like me.

Quiet in the night and clean in the bathroom. Too far from the center city and too many people allways in the Hall. In the room a shit with holes ... Breakfast expensive % quality.

This hotel looks pretty old and dull from inside. The LIFT needs a serious makeover and it will take ages for one to go to the 2nd floor from ground floor. The location is good though with good access to public transportation. If you dont have vehicle and completely rely on public commute, this hotel is not advisable in cases where the main road is closed as the only option to reach city center is by walk and its a LONG LONG walk.

The hotel is good for a short staying in Amsterdam. We had some problems with the shower, but nothing impossible to manage. The hotel is well-served by public transport.

it's a great place to stay. it's about a 40 minute walk to the train station if able bodied. the tram stop is a block away and it runs conveniently thru the heart of town and to the central station until about midnight. It's a good price, good quality of room, and convenient. The rooms smell like marijuana. There's no getting that smell out.

It's NOT bad hotel. The hotel staff are kindly. But I don't like this hotel location. Because it's far from Amsterdam central area. And you need 10 minutes(or more) walk from nearest tram station. There is NO shops, NO restaurants around the hotel.

Good place to stay for one, maybe two nights. Bathroom needed renovation, mattresses are way too soft and worn out. Staff was nice. Parking in the streets is free and save.

the price of the room was very expensive for the quality of the hotel. And the price didn't include the breakfast. The website could inform that you will pay 12.50 euros per person and 10 euros by day to park your car.

I tried to get from Venere an offer with has breakfast included. The only option remaining is to buy from the hotel full price which is not interesting. Too bad! The hotel is pretty far from the center, it takes about 45mn from the hotel to get to Central Station. The web site indicates 1km from the city center but what is considered to be the center? The hotel is OK anyway.

The room was comfortable and the staff was nice. Although the hotel is a little far from the centre of the city (about 20 minutes), it’s not difficult to get there: at the Central Station, take the tram 2 and get off in Westlandgracht stop, keep walking for about 100 metres in the same direction, turn to left and walk for about 3 blocks (there are some red doors at the corner), turn to right and walk for 1 block, and then you have the hotel. If you are going to stay in the city for several days, you can buy a 15 pass ticket (To travel between the Central Station and Westlandgracht, 3 passes are required), which costs 6,5 € and it’s sold at the Central Station; ask for the blue ticket. Also there exist some tickets that can be used in the whole transport system (bus, tram, metro) for 24, 48 or 72 hours; the prices are 6,30 €, 10 € and 13 € respectively. If I would returned to Amsterdam, I would look for the same hotel, except that I found a more central one at the same cost.

This is a college dormitory trying to pass itself off as a 3 Star hotel. This hotel was dirty, noisy, the staff was incompetent and worst of all it claimed to be "centrally located" when in fact it was way outside the city center. If it wasn't for Amsterdam's excellent public transportation system we would have been severely inconvenienced. Also, there was one night when our floor was filled with extremely noisy teenagers who were smoking in the hallway. I complanined three times and nothing was done. When I complained again at check-out the clerk offered me no apology. Amsterdam is a fantastic city- please beware- DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!

The hotel room was really clean and spacious, but breakfast was a bit too expensive. We arrived in Amsterdam at night and if it weren't for a nice couple who took the same tram as us, and who were staying at the same hotel, we would have had a hard time finding it. It's quite far from the city center and you have to walk a little to get to the nearest tram station. Still, I enjoyed my stay and I think it's the best choice if you're travelling as a couple or with your family (and you're not interested in coffee shops or prostitutes) since the neighborhood is quiet and you can have a good night sleep for a reasonable price.

Had an extremely hard time finding this property. Had go into a tattoo parlor to ask for directions. Not surprisingly he anticipated my asking for directions and just asked "Hem Hotel"? Obviously the directions to the hotel could be more descriptive. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anybody but the extremely cost-conscious. Anybody else just pay a few more euros for a hotel closer to the city centre and easier to find!

Im 18, Stayed with my mate for a week at the HEM, the rooms were great, service and price was great, but the hotel is a little hard to find and getting the trams and such can be awkward at first, after a few days we were used to it and got familiar and then it was fine. Id highly recommed the hotel HEM.

I stayed at HEM hotel (Voorburgstraat) with my seven year old son. We were both made to feel very welcome and the attention paid to both of us was remarkable. Breakfast was not included in my hotel bill but the snacks available both from the bar and in the dining room were reasonably priced. The room was clean and tidy. Special thanks to Julian the bar man who taught my son how to play pool and even came in on his night off to play pool with my son on his last night of our holiday.

We were pleasantly surprised with the HEM hotel. It was located in a residential district, which was quiet and homely. At the same time, it was accessible to both the city center (via Tram 2) and the airport (via shuttle bus). The rooms were simple, but clean. And certainly more than adequate if you're on a budget. For the price we paid, it was certainly worth it, and I will certainly be recommending it.

some staff seems almost unfriendly, the buffet at the restaurant was really poor at 18 euros, using the parking area was 10 euros, but getting in and out of it was difficult as the machine kept "eating" my ticket. I am a frequent user of european hotels, this is the worst value i ever got for my money, might be normal for Amsterdam though

A good quality hotel, no frills, just good clean accomadation. Staff were very helpful and even though the hotel is a couple of miles from the centre, it's very close to tram and bus stops that take you straight there.I though overall the hotel was quite similar to the travel lodge hotels here in england. 5 stars

This hotel was nice&clean&good price. Our room was very clean and we enjoyed. But the location of this hotel was booooo!!! According to the map, I can't really tell how far the hotel is just because it was first time to go to Amsterdam. We took the tram forever!!! We started to worry whether we were getting lost. It was completely out of town which cost more for riding a tram. If you want to stay cheaper and you don't care if you have to ride a tram for a while, I recommend this hotel. But if you want to go around some coffee shops and bars till midnight, you should stay others. I really recommend that you'd better take the map to the hotel from the tram station. It takes a bit, like 8minutes. If you arrive there at night, nobody won't be walking, so it'll hard to find the hotel. Amsterdam is very very nice town!!!

This hotel is located about 45 min from the centraal station by a tram #2. Metro station is also located nearby but not reliable at all(so I would advise not to use Metro). The hotel has only elevator and it is very slow and small. There is high-speed internet service available but expensive(15Euro/24h). I have requested for a wake up call, but I didn't receive any. But I think compared with other hotels in Amsterdam, I think this hotel is still inexpensive and has a good value.

HOW TO REACH THE HOTEL

By train
From Amsterdam railway station: take the tram n. 2 and stop at Westlandgracht, walk into Poeldikstraat and, at the end of the street, turn right into Voorburgstraat. After 25 metres you will see the hotel on your right.

By airplane
From the Amsterdam Schiphol airport: take the bus n. 197 and stop at Maasluisstraat. Take street in the direction of the city centre. Turn left into Naaldwijkstraat and at the end of the street you will see the hotel in front of you.
Alternatively, from the airport you can take the shuttle bus until the Sheraton bridge. The hotel is 15 minutes walking from the shuttle stop.
