The area of the Hotel is not really nice because Alicante is not a nice place but the hotel is perfect. People are kind and professionnal, breakfasts in the morning are delicious and you receive a lot of different food, the swimming pool is beautiful, the SPA center is nice as weel, ... very good place to stay.

Not happy with the non smoking policy, it was cold to stand outside at night to have a smoke .
I expected at least one smoking lounge to be avalible to the smokers ...
Spoilt the evenings at the hotel ..
When i asked a member of staff if there was a smoking room , i was told yes "OUTSIDE" . i thought that was a rude way to speak to your guests.

The Hesperia Alicante has the facilities, cleanliness and staff you would expect of a five star hotel. The rooms are spacious with very good sized balconies overlooking the immaculate golf course. The swimming pool is a decent size and was not overcrowded during our stay (mid-June). The 5(+) mile sandy beach is a 10 minute walk away, and there are some great restaurants and pubs just across the road in a new complex (all with golf related names).
It's downside is that San Juan (and Alicante which is a 10 minute drive away) are horrible. They're full of high rise flats which the Spanish pay ridiculous prices for. The main shopping centre in San Juan is also horrible, and you are far better off in the restaurants across the road from the hotel. Also, remember your Spanish phrase book. Very few Brits holiday in San Juan/ Alicante so everyone expects you to speak Spanish!
In summary, it's a lovely hotel if you hire a car and get out every day to see the real Spain in the hills, and in smaller beach resorts along the coasts. Don't forget to do a day trip to the waterfalls 15 miles north of Benidorm.
