the personnel at the Castilla Hotel were very incompetent, unfriendly and not willing to help at all. They even sent us to a taxi stop on a Sunday, knowing there were no taxis around. I have never been treated this bad in Spain, they top any thing I have seen in the West.

Very comfortable and clean rooms, nice place to stay. Beautiful beach is at a distance of five-minute walk and buses take you regularly to the center of Alicante (approx. 30 min). Some of the hotel staff doesn't speak much english, but in that case reception desk can help. Recommended for people, who prefer quiet place, although that part of town is not exactly the area of villas.

Lovely hotel in excellent position, but BEWARE prices in the bar changed daily depending on who served you!! Had same drink every night for 3 nights and the price gradually increased. Even the ice cream advertised at 1.50 was charged at 1.65 on our last day. Didn't notice until we had left hotel. Restaurant charged us for Breakfast and then 5 minutes later started to clear away the food from the buffet without telling us!! Could not recommend that you eat and drink there.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel, it was high quality without quality prices. I give a lower mark for the room size as I was staying in a single room which had no balcony, otherwise I had a wonderful peaceful holiday and as the food was proper Spanish food (not paellas etc), I found myself eating in the hotel most days when normally I would go elsewhere. With Benidorm 30 miles up the coast it was nice to be in a quiet spanish resort with easy access to a spacious beach. I would imagine it would be very busy during the Spanish holidays.

A very clean, nicely kept hotel with very friendly staff - although it helps to speak at least some spanish - situated opposite the beach. (playa de san Juan) Nice bar, nice food, niec atmosphere and mainly middle aged - to elderly clientele.
It's on the main road, so the bus links to Alicante are realy convenient and it only takes a short time to get there.
The beach here is far superior to the Alicante beach though, with a fabulous trek around the headland and the lighthouse just a ten minute walk south from the hotel.
Off season when we went (Oct/Nov) it was very, very quiet, but if thats what you're after - it is perfect. Lots of nice little places to eat dotted all around just a few streets back from the beach.
A very relaxing break - with a fantastic beach, stunning scenery and ideal location for daytrips to Alicante and valencia!

The Castilla is an ideal hotel base for this part of Spain,it is situated about 150m from the beach one street back, good sized swimming pool and a well presented terrace bar area.
Car park needs to be booked in advance as car parking is limited and you could find the on street parking full.
Good bus service to Alicante at 50m from the hotel and at 8euro good value, this runs daily until 23:30 each evening.
Overall an excellent base.

The rooms were basic, with no frills but adequate for our needs. A fridge in the room would have been nice and you had to pay extra to use the room safe even though it was the normal cheap type found in most hotel rooms. No pool side service was offered and this deminished the feel good factor of staying pool side for any period of time. Excuses offered were that the hotel did not like glass's around the pool but i am sure you can get plastic glass's and paper plates in Spain :-) English is reluctantly spoken and even the barmen had difficulty in understanding our English requests for a beer or a gin and tonic. The golf at Alicante Golf is very good and is worth a visit. The beach is fantastic and the sea was luke warm during our stay in June 2003.
