Almirante is a good hotel in a rather quiet location. It is very close to a fantastic stretch of beach and there are quite a few local restaurants hidden in the streets surrounding the hotel. Suggest you get out and explore the streets to find a non-hotel restaurant, although the food and service at the inhouse restaurant was good.

We spent the weekend in Alicante primarily for a school activity near San Juan Beach. We appreciated the Almirante for it's beach location, and the breakfast was good for 5 euro. Beyond that, it was just a decent place to stay.
Note that you must take the stairs to the 1st floor, to access the elevator. Not a problem for us, but I imagine some people might think so.

Terrible sound proofing - walls are so thin it sounded like our neigbor was in our room snoring like the Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Plus lots of echoing footsteps and hallway noise seeping in under the door. Also the restaurant is mediocre and overpriced. The location, San Juan beach is inconvenient if you like night activity. It´s several kilometres from town (Alicante) so taxis are about €14 each way with a wait. or else the train is a 30 min wait and ends arouind midnight - useless for Spanish nightlife! We moved out as soon as we could back to Alicante to a two star for € 8 less a night and had so much more fun, with everything within minutes from the front door. Boo to San Juan - up with Alicante !

Hotel Almirante supplied good, clean three star accomodation at a very reasonable price, 240 euros for two people for four nights, and direct access to Playa San Juan.
The hotel room was spanish style, slightly old fashioned and simple, but very clean and comfortable. Balcony was an excellent size and got the afternoon and evening sun. Bathroom was fairly new and very clean, with full bath and shower. Some of the general furnishings were a little tired.
Breakfast was simple, but tasty: orange juice, coffee, toasted crusty bread, pate, ham and cheese, olive oil, butter, jam, sweet pastry and croissant. More than enough to start the day all for the price of 5 euros.
Staff were friendly and do have a little English, but some knowledge of Spanish is helpful.
Hotel has swimming pool, but this was out of use while we were there, being cleaned and repaired.
Hotel is on the long sandy beach, across a small road and tram line. Buses and the tram provide easy access to Alicante (15 mins by tram), and on to the other resorts of the Costa Blanca. A 15 minute walk takes you into the small town of Playa San Juan, with shops and many eating places.

Whilst the hotel is a little faded, the location in the San Juan area of Alicante is excellent. From Alicante, travelling North, the hotel is well signposted. The staff are friendly but a small knowledge of Spanish is essential. Overall, a pleasant experience.

This hotel was well used by local people. A bit dated, my room required refurbishment. Situated in a quiet, open residential area with close, easy, flat access to the fabulous, empty, clean San Juan Playa, the centre of Alicante was only 10 minutes away by bus or TRAN from nearby stops. Plenty of parking within hotel grounds. The airport is 11 kilometres away (27 euros by taxi or 1.05 euros by bus from Alicante bus station. Apart from Reception staff, few others spoke English. Good place to chill out for a couple of days but not appropriate for anyone seeking a swinging night life or higher standard of accommodation.
