| Algeciras, stretching nearly to Gibraltar, has been an important Spanish port since long. Partly due to this proximity with the African continent, Algeciras gives off an Arab flavour with its Arabic signs and tea shops specializing in Moroccan teas.
Strolling the streets, guests will find peace and quiet in the parks and squares, far from the bustle of the city. With a length of 23 km of beaches, guests will enjoy beaches such as Rinconcillo, San García, and Getares. Nature lovers can also hike through the gorgeous natural reserve Los Alcornocales. |
| DISTANCES From the nearest bus stop: 300 metres. From the tourist area: 1 km. From the nearest beach: 2.5 km. From the airport: 25.6 km. |

The experience of entering up the grand drive far exceeds expectations in view of the price charged. Everything was fine except for slight disappointment in the a la carte restaurant. Thin room walls could be a problem at busier times.

The room was one of 10 at street level. The hallway had an extremely strong disinfectant smell, less strong in the room, but requiring that the windows be left open. The porch contained a manhole cover labelled Algeciras Sewage Dep't. Upgrade was not available. Cannot recommend based on my stay.

Reina Cristina is a true oasis in what is a very tatty Spanish port; do not expect leasurely walks through Andalucian streets, Algeceras really is a working port with nothing to recommend it, bars or restaurents.
We stayed there for 2 nights and used it as a base for the Costa de Luz and Gibraltar and the hotels position and ambiance over rides the town it is in.
The bedrooms are spacious, clean but fairly basically furnished, however the interior and exterior of the hotel are simply stunning with wonderful gardens and decorations.
Request a bedroom on the first floor rather then the ground floor to maximise the views of the garden.
Breakfast is an English and continental buffet and plentiful. We didn't dine in the evening.

Beautiful hotel. The bathroom was very nice, with separate toilet and bath tub/shower room. The staff, as mentioned in other critiques were not concerned about service. They said there was no designation between smoking and nonsmoking rooms, yet there were signs on the room doors. We had reserved two rooms, and when we requested masking of the smoking smell in our room, they fumigated the wrong room. The food was not very good, but it was plentiful if you got to the meal early in the service. The price was reasonable, but the food was not of high quality. The overall hotel surroundings were lovely- the grounds are well groomed and grand.

After finding Algeciras rather drab, we were surprised to find such a fine hotel. The grounds where great and the room + terrace very clean. Very good value for money. I would recommend it for.

All in all, a delightful stay at the Hotel Reina Cristina. It was the perfect launching pad for a trip to Morroco and the verdant grounds and splendid buffet were an especially nice treat after spending a week dining out at expensive Spanish restaurants. I will definitely return!

Reina Cristina has old-school charm (not faded!) and was a welcome surprise in Algeciras. A single at Eur42 was unbelievable value, given the facilities, accomodation and history of the place (Churchill and Roosevelt stayed here, and many other famous names...)
The large palmy terrace out back is perfect for sundowners - the background music from "Amarcord" transported me back to the '60s, white linen suits and an altogether more glamorous era...
The dinner buffet was not-so-good though, but really, at the price I was paying, who can complain?
Anyway, I filled up at the bar...

Hotel was very relaxing. Staff attended to complaints very quickly. Buffet food was above average, but A la Carte was only average. Breakfast was very good. Indoor pool was being refurbished and outdoor pool needed some work.
Although hotel is near the port we couldn't hear any noise from there and when sitting on the very large sun terrace it could have been a million miles away. Excellent hotel if exploring the southwest of Spain. Very good value for money.

Excellent hotel located in a very beautiful and quiet garden. Very spacious rooms, but no refrigerator and no simple things like cleanex. The food is OK, but certainly breakfast needs more variation.

The hotel and its grounds are outstanding.
Most guests seemed to be on an all-inclusive
plan, which I was not aware of. We used the
hotel as a base to visit Gibraltar. Hotels in
La Linea would be more convenient for that
purpose, but I could not find any available
rooms there in my web search.

Rooms ok but food and service under level.
Recepionist not very serviceminded. Arriving at 10 pm but still oeople in diningroom but we
were not accepted on request.
Wines in restaurant not drinkable, particular the red wine.
Locaton of the hotel was excellent both to go to town and to make trips around.

The hotel was difficult to find, surprised us
though with a wonderful park and setting.
Very brithish - colonial feeling, would have
invited for a longer stay. Pool time
is a bit odd (closes too early)

Overwhelming British and German group travellers with all inclusive package.
Good choice for a stopover, not for a long stay.
The surrounding park is not more than a large garden.
They gave us the "Reina Cristina" suite, which is the best room in the hotel, so in the end we cannot complain.

A hotel that caters to coach parties not individual visitors. The reception staff had no ability to handle a request to extend our stay and were quite useless, we found the location so convenient that we stayed anyway and booked again by e-mail but would otherwise not have stayed. It was typical of the standard of the reception staff that they were unable to find any rtrace of the e-amil booking and I had to show them the booking on my laptop.
