We all agreed that we could not have found a better hotel in any way. Marmara Guesthouse was centrally located, clean, and beautiful; the breakfast was perfect; and the family that runs it is lovely and helpful. I would stay there again and recommend it to anyone visiting Istanbul.

We (two 40 something yr old women) spent two weeks in Turkey and this was one of our very favorite places! We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our trip and couldn't have asked for a more pleasant experience. The family who owns and runs the guest house couldn't be nicer or more helpful. The view from the roof top terrace was incredible, and the location was ultra convenient (walking distance to Mosques, markets, hammams, etc...). The rooms are European sized (the baths also),well-furnished, and the breakfast was fresh and plentiful. We will stay at Marmara again when we return (planning another trip to Turkey to see the Black Sea Coast!). Did I mention how lovely the owners are---they really made our stay something to remember!

The family which run the Marmara could not have been more helpful. We booked our room in advance and got a room which met our requests. The house is located in the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul, which means all the 'historic' features of the city are within walking distance. Everything you could possibly need is right on your doorstep; shops, restaurants, bars, bakery, etc. Don't be discouraged by the proximity of these facilities though; they all close up at midnight, any noise from them is easily stopped by the double glazing. We slept with the windows open, it is that peaceful. The only drawback with the rooms is the restricted space you have for clothing storage; not a problem I guess for backpackers, but if you're the standard tourist, you might not want to be storing your clothes in your luggage. A bedside cabinet, coat hangers and a rail are normally provided, we found this adequate enough. The view of the Marmaris Sea from the breakfast room or roof terrace is wonderful, especially at dawn or dusk. During our stay, the Sultanahmet district suffered from the water supply being interrupted ~ this was not a problem for us as the Marmara Guest house has many storage tanks so our supply never stopped. We also spent a pleasant hour in the breakfast room with the other guests watching an incredible electrical storm roll across Istanbul. The downside to this is, the local area suffered from an electrical outage for 24 hours. Not a problem for the Marmara: they have their own back up generator! Unfortunately, during our stay, it did break down (but has now been fixed!). We did not mind this either as Elif quickly distributed scented candles to all the guests, which we found romantic and fun ;-) . The cold shower in the morning was also very bracing, as my yelps testified. My wife declined to partake, citing excessive laughing. We also recommend the Sultan Café around the corner run by Chengiz – just tell him Deborah & Mark sent you!
