Very nice property in excellent situation within San Gimignano. Room quality was great. It is more a B&B than a full hotel. The fact that you have to call somebody to run from blocks away and check you in is cumbersome. Also is the fact that car parking happens blocks away and they have to bring you back and forth to pick up your car, which is understood given the traffic limitations within the old city. Location is 2 streets away from Main Plaza and Historic Museums

We had 4 fantastic days in the San G area using Palazzo al Torrione as a base. Gianna arranged parking for our car (5euro per day) about a 5 minute walk away.
The Palazzo's location is ideal being within the City walls but just 1 street back from the main "tourist street". You can wander around the town almost unhindered before 9.00 am or after 6.00 pm when there are fewer people around.
The 'Palace' was clean and well appointed and we had a room with a large terrace overlooking the walls with views to the countryside. This gave a real Tuscan feel to 'drinks on the terrace after 5' with our neighbours from the adjoining room with whom we shared this magic space.
Breakfast was liberal with rolls, croissants, jam, juice, yoghurt, fresh fruit, tea/coffee and that magic custard tart served by either Francesco or his Mum Gianna.
We found this place to be special.

It was a very nice room but we had to wait a bit for the owner to come and meet us infront of the palazzo. there was no lift to the room so we had to carry our luggage up the stairs. The room was very clean, not so spacious.also some photos on the site do not agree with the real palazzo. for example there is no hall. immediately you open the door you find stairs to the rooms.

This place is amazing. We were overwhelmed with the quality of the hotel and the detail with which it has been restored. The building is ancient but its restoration was done meticulously and with great taste. The pictures on the website do not match the beauty of the rooms. I look forward to my next trip to Italy so that I can stay in Palazzo al Torrione for a longer period of time. Because of its wonderful location inside the city walls, its friendly family staff, and its beautiful furnishings this hotel is the crown of the San Gimignano experience.

We stayed at Palazzo al Torrione for five nights in September. We had a lovely time at this hotel. We arrived very late at Poggibonsi train station and found there were no buses or taxis at that time of night to San Gimignano. We rang the owners and Francesco very kindly picked us up and took us to our room and helped carry our bag up the stairs. (yes there are stairs folks, but after a few days of walking you get used to it and stairs aren't a problem) The hotel is located one street (laneway) behind the main street which makes it nice and quiet, everything is close by. The hotel is beautifully furnished and clean. Francesco and his mother (sorry I have forgotten her name)were very helpful, but it safe to say the Francesco is not a morning person and comes across moody at times. On the other hand his mother is very friendly and served a lovely breakfast consisting of juice, tea, coffee or hot chocolate, croissants, bread roll, jam and a delicious coconut or apple cake (home made). I know what your thinking, cake for breakfast? Go on try it your on holiday and it's worth it! We were even offered a lift to the bus stop so we didn't have to cary our bags when we left and we were given recommendations for our next stop in Italy. We really enjoyed our time in San Gimignano and would definitely stay at Palazzo al Torrione again. I highly recommend it to everyone!

My wife and I really liked the room we stayed at. Rooms were clean and well decorated. The lady who runs the business was friendly and suggested several restaraunts to us. We spent one night at San gimigiano and were leaving very early the next day (6.30am). This was earlier than the usual time (8.30am) breakfast was served. The host arranged for our breakfast at the only bakery in town that was open at that time!
The only problem I see with this B&B is getting checked in when the tabacchi shop is closed. That is the only negative.

Superb location. Incredible atmosphere. Small concerns only regarding the quality of breakfast which is a bit poor. Tip: if you will arrive by car, I suggest to phone to the keeper of these rooms before parking, she will be glad to help you to find a car park at cheaper price than the public parking situated next to S. Giovanni old town gate. Staff will be also happy to suggest good places to eat!

We loved this place. We caught a train to Grosseto and then walked up the small hill to get the bus to San Gim. From there we called the tobacco shop (as the map on Venere isn't the best) and we were picked up. We had a large suitcase with us and had to carry this up a flight of stairs so be warned. The place was gorgeous though. The newly renovated room and bathroom was great and the breakfast was light but sufficient. Couldn't recommend the place any higher.

I wouldn't stay anywhere else in San G. The welcome from Frncesco, his mother and his aunt (find them in the first Tabac on the right after you go through the gate near the bus stop) is warm and they do all they can to ensure a pleasant stay. We speak Italian but there's enough English for anyone. breakfast is simple but good and the chatter is very pleasant when you're away from home for some time. The location is ideal in that it's one block away from the main tourist drag - a welsome spacing. San G is at its best after the last stragglers leave around 4:30-5:00.
If you're including San G, as we said, stay here by all means. Various rooms available, some with terrace. A number face out over the road to the countryside, the others look out and up to the towers.
It's a great spot!

The place itself is really nice. Well done, and pretty rooms. But it is so hard checking in that it just wasn't worth it. You have to call their tobacco shop when you arrive in town, struggle through communication (even if very nice, they don't speak much english)wait for them to meet you and take you to the room. I arrived by bus (be sure to get off on the second stop), and after quite an ordeal I was met with only a scooter - which only luggage fit on. Long story short, I wasted over 1 1/2 just getting into the room and missed my opportunity to really look at the town. Rent a car for anywhere in San Gimignano - by train and bus is a long process. Oh, and make sure to bring an alarm clock!

A very pleasant stay - excellent location. It did help to be able to speak a little Italian as the staff were not too good in English, but were extremely pleasant and tried hard to give us lots of help - especially with parking which would otherwise be a nightmare in San Gimignano.
