George Hotel London is tucked away just north of Russell Square, on the edge of Bloomsbury in a classic Georgian town house complex built in 1794.
The town houses of this neighborhood were once the homes of the wealthy but many are now converted to hotels and the George Hotel was formed as a result of the uniting of 3 of these buildings.
It has the perfect location for a stay in central London - quiet and peaceful facing central gardens but within walking distance of the British Museum, Covent Garden, Soho and the West End, ideal for both theatres and shopping.
If you prefer to use the tube, the hotel is only 2 stops from Oxford Circus and Covent Garden and only 3 stops from Leicester Square.
The gardens in front of the hotel are private but the hotel has a key for guest access and use of the tennis courts (it also provides racquets and tennis balls). Guests are welcome to use the Internet Point in the lounge.

As rambling old fashioned hotel with a certain charm. The check in staff are very pleasant. My single room was tiny and the bathroom was quite a trek but it is a very good position: not far from Euston, Russell Square Tube, British Museum etc. Opposite to Uni Halls of Residence with Uni tennis courts in front of the building. Great value but not luxury in any sense - very basic in fact. Quiet spoT for central London.

A very very nice hotel. If you can cope with small rooms it´s nothing to think about

We stayed at the Hotel George for 3 days in July 2005. Good points: The breakfast area was great with good service and free access to the internet. The room itself was not so great, being small and up several flights of stairs (no lift). The worst part was that the bathroom was shared among several rooms and the neither the toilets nor the showers worked very well. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The first room we got was buried and too small: ensuite facilities were ludicrously tiny. The second one, on the first floor, was better. There are no elevators so pack light or specify which level you want to be on. Rooms were dated but clean; small breakfast room, be there early (breakfast was OK). Staff understanding and helpful but not especially friendly. The Hotel is close to the tube (Russel Square or Euston Station) and within walking distance to good areas. You could leave your luggage if you arrive too soon or leave later. Price vs service is OK but next time I'll be happy to spend more to be more confortable.

Be careful about what rooms you want and which ones you order as they have shared bathroom rooms and ensuite rooms - we got a little confused, however, the staff were completely understanding and extremely helpful. There are no elevators so pack light or specify which level you want to be on. It is really close to a major railway and bus depot on Euston Rd. It is much cheaper to travel this way than by taxi.

Nice location for this hotel. Marchmont Street is pleasant.

We are 5 Italian friends and we stayed there for 3 nights. Our opinion were unanimous: we understand we were in the centre of London but the whole structure is really decrepit and it can be compared to less than one star Italian Hotel. Claustrophobic ensuite bathroom (1 meter by 2) and necessary athletic attitude to “climb” the third floor. The only one positive note is referred to the English breakfast, tasty and rich. General opinion: never again.

THIS WAS A FAIR DEAL FOR THE HOTEL AND LOCATION IN LONDON, CLOSE TO THE TUBE AND WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE TO GOOD AREAS, THE ROOMS WERE A BIT DATED AND IN NEED OF NEW BEDS AND PILLOWS BUT IT WAS A CLEAN PLACE TO STAY

The rooms were in the basement which smelled of damp. Some effort had been made to decorate the rooms nicely but the bathroom was very poor. The sink was in the room rather than the bathroom and the plumbing in the bathroom was old and not very clean looking. The staff were all pleasant and helpful.

Hotel room clean, beds .. one double and one single squeezed in same room (not as requested, we had booked only a double) Ensuite facilities were in fact ludicrously tiny. and downright laughable if one had been claustrophobic then using the "ensuite" would have been impossible. Curtains coming off the rail when we arrived, the curtains came off the rail when we closed them for the night. Reported to staff in the day, did not seem concerned whatsoever. Breakfast however was good, but served on the first morning by a sullen american girl, who was rude to my husband. Second day breakfast great food served by a cheery girl. I cannot recommend this hotel as it is the poorest we have ever stayed in.

Most people were very unfriendly, especially the woman, when we checked in.

I was very disappointed in this hotel. The staff were pretty welcoming, and on the whole provided a good level of service, but the fabric of the building left a lot to be desired. The bathroom of the first room we were in did not meet basic Health and Safety standards - no cover on the light, cracked and broken tiles around the toilet flush handle, handbasin so loose on the wall that I feared it might fall. We were moved to another room for our second night, where the celing and walls were damp (though to be fair the staff did explain that the building was being re-roofed), and the shower in the bathroom produced only a trickle of water! Overall it was a dispiriting experience, and one that will make me think twice about staying in an independent hotel. The chains may be faceless and anonymous, but the majority are safe!

Our room was poky, poorly equipped with broken furniture and an inadequate bathroom. The bed was particularly uncomfortable - it looked lop sided. The breakfasts were not all that the website had promised - I had to send mine back as it was stone cold - no apology was offered. We did not like the hoover being used in the breakfast room while we were eating breakfast. We would not stay there again.
