pension - exterior
The family-run pension Dr. Geissler is located in the very heart of Vienna, between the Stephansdom and the Franz-Josefs-Kai, offering excellent connections to the public transportation system. The city centre, with its numerous sights, can be visited on foot or by bike, which can be rented at the hotel.
The corner house, completely destroyed during the World War II and reconstructed in 1962, spreads now on three floors. The reception is situated on the 8th floor, from where you have a wonderful view over the city.
Even though staying in the city centre, this property is situated on a quiet street and assures its guests a relaxing stay and reinvigorating nights. Furthermore, the near Internet point can be a good alternative to the city tour.

This pension is a very good choice. Clean comfortable rooms, though rather small. But Vienna is not a city to stay in your room. Service is correct. Only breakfast is a bit boring, the same sandwiches every morning, though you can eat as much as you like from the small buffet. Located at 2 minutes walk from U-bahn Schwedenplatz an ideal base to explore town. At night you might hear some of the youngsters going out in the streets close by. Next time I will be staying in Dr Geisler again.

Hello, we stayed five nights at this hotel. The hotel is located in a excellent position nearly Stephan's Kathedrale and Metro. From here you can go and visit many sights, churchs, museums and enjoy very beautiful buildings. You will find many pretty cafés. For sightseeing tours is this pension perfect. But for a romatic weekend I would recommend other opportunities. A german couple

Overall, good value for the price. Our room was very small, but we were in it very little. Great location, close to transport and city centre. For the price, we would stay there again if in Vienna. The one tiny lift can be frustrating. If the bedroom window was left open, it was noisy outside, especially late Saturday night from a nearby nightclub. It was no problem with the window shut. However, like many hotels in Europe, the room was too warm, and it would have been preferable to be able to have the window open.

Generally meeting up to expectations. The staff were all very friendly and gave us good advice where and what to do in Vienna. The breakfast was sufficient and the standard was above satisfaction. Service was immaculate. Menu could change for those who stay there longer and I am sure it will be appreciated by all.

Very nice, helpful, attentive staff. Old, but clean rooms, leaky toilet and shower. Loud rooms right on the road. Much more could be done to make the accomodation up to date.

We were so impressed with this place. It was in a great location (within walking distance to everything!)The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to serve us. We had a room wihtout a bathroom or shower, but it was fine, as we had the whole floor to ourselves! The rooms were small, but for the price, we were very pleasantly surprised. This is definetly a diamond in the rough!

Great place to stay close to the metro stop and all the sights of Vienna. I have stayed there twice and would stay there again.

The hotel is located near the centre and next to the metro station. All rooms are clean and large. Hotel staff is very helpful and qualified. This place is optimum for a short tour of Vienna.

The staff were VERY warm, friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We had two lengths of stay, and they were willing to store baggage while we traveled away from Vienna. The location is superb - on the Canal, by the metro, in the heart of - and within walking distance - of all the major downtown destinations, opera house, museums, etc. And yet the room was very quiet. Very comfy beds. Great hotel, great staff - I certainly would return.

We booked this hotel based on reviews from this site and we really enjoyed our stay here. Location is excellent for visiting Vienna and the street is quiet but close enough to bars and restaurants and metro (5 min by foot max). The decor probably needs updating - however, the beds have fantastic mattresses and one of the longest baths (at least in our room) that I´ve ever seen. The breakfast is very simple (but have had worse in Vienna). Considering the price, I think you get at least what you pay for if not a little more and we would definitely stay in this hotel again.

V good location for the price. V near bus from airport, underground and bike rental. Access fine once we'd got used to the lift. First room offered was unacceptable because of lack of security and privacy (glass door, shared access). Second room OK but opposite reception so noisy in mornings. But great view. Good value for money.

This accommodation is very closed to U bahn to centre in Wienna and to train centrale statione. I can to recommend this to all travellers , even to business partners. Rooms are smaller, but clean. Breakfast is good and delicious. I would like to come back some time when I would like to visited Wienna again.

We stayed in Vienna and at the hotel for four nights - as we wished we foud an affordable hotel in the very center of the city. The rooms, service and facilities of the hotel were not of a very high standard, but in no way less than what he had expected. We were quite satisfied wiht the hotal and would recommend it to any budget travellers.

Very nice B&B. The hotel staffs are extremely nice and helpful. The breakfast is excellent! We rent a room without bathroom. We had to go to a different floor to take a shower, which is little inconvenient. Otherwise, it is a great place to stay for the $ you spend.

Room was fine, but carpet was old and dirty. Shower was three floors away, so that was pretty inconvenient. Overall though, the staff was very helpful and the rest of the rooms that we saw seemed to be in a lot better shape than ours.

The rooms have no air conditioning, so they get a bit hot. The police station is only 1 block away, and there is a large post office just across the street, so you light sleepers will have a problem with noise from the sirens and the truck engines. There is no Internet access available at all, and the Internet Cafe across the street charges 2 Euro/hour. In our room, at least, the toilet room always had a smell of sewage. If we forget to leave the door open, the next time you went into the room the smell was overpowering. The breakfast was nice, and the employees were always friendly and helpful. The location -- right in district 1 -- is very close to a subway station, and only a 5 minute walk to Stevensplatz. The Statdpark is only a few minutes walk from the hotel also. The room I stayed in (210) was very spacious and comfortable. If they offered any type of Internet access, and a water boiler in the rooms, it would have been excellent!

If you are not posh, it is a very good accomodation. My room was not spacious but large enough to stay comfortable. Breakfast was not big deal but ok. The location is very central and close to the metro and bus to the airport.

At my arrive the room was not booked, after 30 min they realise that there was a mistake and they were almost full so they give me the last room available! orrible old and very smelly! the day later I'll asked to the man at the front desk to show me a standard room.. was the same! the picture on venere are not showing the real rooms if somebody is looking for them please email me! the only good thing of his pension is the breakfast! at the end I personally recomend to look for an other place to stay!!

The rooms are huge and spacious and well presented for a budget hotel. Walking distance to centre of Vienna and easy access to public transport. The only small annoyance was that the shower was 4 levels up from our room and we had to go to reception and get the key anytime we wanted to use it, oh and the milk with breakfast was warm. But all in all a great cheap hotel :)

My stay at Dr. Geissler between 1 to 3 Jun 2007 was a pleasant one. The room is relatively small but clean. Although WC was located outside the room, it was ok and most importantly it was clean. The property is located very near Schwedenplatz in a relatively safe and friendly neighbourhood. However, “How to reach the property” did not make it easy to locate the property. Get off at Schwedenplatz, there is other exit nearer to the property. Think the exit is called Schwedenplatz (there is a pizza take-away near the exit). Urania exit cannot be found in the station and one has to ask for direction from station staff. After taking the exit Urania, “continue straight ahead” (with the Danube on your left). This actually meant after coming out of exit Urania, cross the road at the immediate traffic junction (about 2 to 3 steps from exit). “With Danube on your left” was not helpful either as it is a long river. We ended up much further ahead at about 200m away as instruction was “continue straight ahead”. Wasted close to 20 minutes looking for the property. Perhaps Dr Geissler could review their write up on “How to reach the property”.

The room sounded wonderful when we booked it. It was beautifully clean and spacious, and only ten minutes' walk from the centre. However in a rash moment we had elected not to have an en suite bathroom. The procedure at bathtime was: Take the lift from the second to the eighth floor to collect the key. Go back down to the fifth floor to unlock the single bathroom; Bathe; Take the key back up to the eighth floor and return to the second floor. This was not ideal. We also found it daunting when we arrived at the front door with our very heavy luggage to find that we had to carry them up a flight of stairs to the lift before proceeding to reception on the eighth floor.

the room was clean, it was easy to find the pension because it's very very close to the u-bahn station and about 5 min. on foot to the centre of vienna!! only regret: we hadn't the bath in the room, but it had been not a problem for us, we were almost alone on the floor

the location is excellent. just 5 min. away from the stop of the airport bus at schwedenplatz. our room (nr. 18) had no shower curtain which is very unpleasant as bathroom is under water after taking a shower (are there no shower curtains in all rooms?). staff is friendly. fair room rates.

Very impressed with the accommodation for the price that was paid - location was 5 minutes walk from Stephansplatz and 5 minutes walk from airport bus drop off. Staff were very welcoming and helpful with lots of hints about locations of Weihnachtsmarkts etc. There is a little pub around the corner from the hotel which serves very late if your night ends too early:)

The Pension Dr. Geissler is perfectly located for all those travelling to Vienna via airplane. From the airport there is a direct bus stopping at about 200 meters from the Hotel. The entrance to the subway station Schwedenplatz with U1 and U4 connections is only 50m away. But the sights of the City can also easily be reached on foot. The rooms are not very big but offer everything you need just to have a place to sleep and have breakfast in Vienna. The staff is friendly and the quality of the breakfast is okay. Unfortunately, they only serve Continental breakfast. The Pension Dr. Geissler is a good choice for all those who do not want to spent all their money on the accomodation, but who prefer to spend it on the museums and theatres of the City. A Pension for all those still young at heart who are used to travel without any luxury.

I stayed at Dr. Geissler in 2003 and was looking forward to going back. The facility and staff are great. The problem is the local youth have decided to hang out all night at the nearby underground stop/square and drink all night. All night we heard the profanity and loud voices of intoxicated youth, making it hard to sleep even with earplugs. It was warm and the windows had to be open. We had to leave and catch a 5am bus to the airport and the square was still filled with youth, now feeling the effects of their long night and getting sick into the bushes. Although I did not feel in any way threatened, it was unpleasant. I would ask for a room off the street in the future.

We have stayed at Pension Geissler now several times over a number of years. It is our home away from home in Vienna. While it is a modest pension, the location and price/quality ratio can't be beat. It is probably the best modestly priced pension in the center of Vienna. It is within close walking distance to Vienna's major sights; there are some good restaurants nearby. Its proximity to Schwedenplatz means that one is close to a major public transport hub. The only downside is the small rooms...but one doesn't go to Vienna to sit ina hotel room. The pension could improve things a bit, too, by updating its breakfast selection...All in all, a great place, and highly recommended.
