Friendly staff, centrally located, reasonable area, incredibly quiet, a new modern unit within an old building, 10 minute walk to 2 train stations. Certainly has wow factor and comfort. The room was very quiet with virtually no external noise. A diverse range of offerings for breakfast in a quirky atmosphere. Complimentary tea and cake is served in the dining/lounge area from mid afternoon – a bonus after a long day’s sightseeing. This was truly a delightful place to stay. Other: tips for first time visitors to Venice – 1. Train system is very efficient – you can purchase single trip or multi-day tickets direct from automated machines at each station (like an ATM) – these have instructions in English. 2. The ~2 hour Donau (Danube) boat cruise was a let-down. Not much to see other than some trees. 3. Non-smokers BEWARE. Vienna is the most backward city we have encountered in relation to smoking laws. We were close to illness as a result on a couple of occasions. Fortunately there is no-smoking on trains, but everywhere else it is almost mandatory, and the Viennese seem to think you’re weird if you ask for no-smoking areas. However, be firm about where you want to sit/attend and vote with your feet and wallet if you’re not happy … it’s the only way they’ll get the message. We certainly will not return to Vienna until the law changes.

Our stay at the Altstadt was very enjoyable. The staff was extremely helpful and accomodating. Breakfasts were wonderful. Lounge area was comfortable and relaxing. Would definitely go back there.

Our first stay was for 11 days. Our room was huge (more like an apartment), very clean and well-equipped. We were on the street side. Some noise but charming view and very bright. Second stay was for 2 nights. We were given a "designer" room on the back. It was quite small and dark but OK for 2 nights only. Surprisingly the small room cost more than than the big one! All that aside, we loved our experience at this hotel. Excellent breakfasts, afternoon teas a real treat as well, and you can't beat the location. Easy walking distance to centre of town and just a few blocks from U-bahn. The people who work at the Altstadt were friendly and helpful at all times. They appear to enjoy their jobs and their guests and it really shows. A very special place/experience!

The Altstadt is slightly off the beaten path which makes it quiet. There is good transportation nearby.

I am in Europe several times per year. This is one the most comfortable hotels I have found. The staff is great. The room spacious and relaxing. The only negative is the distance to the parking garage. I will stay here as often as my travels allow.

A wonderful residence with refreshing design, energetic staff and great location. It sounds cliche, but we felt as if we had a city apartment. This was our first visit to Wein, and we were thus able to walk a few short blocks to the "ring" or to a superb musical presentation by the Vienna Residence Orchestra. We were also able to easily walk to Palmenhaus for a splendid early evening meal. The staff was great, the overall feeling was of our fitting in. I recommend this highly if you wish to experience a location versus the numbness of a cookie-cutter hotel room which could be in Wein or Fresno. The Altstadt is not the latter. regards, patrick

A perfect choice. A quiet location near Museum Quartier, the main shopping road of Vienna in walk distance, huge room (next time will choose suite, I'm curious), a nice public room with fireplace where you can read and have a cake and tea in afternoon, what can you ask more?

The Hotel Alstadt is a very well managed and comfortable Hotel. The Staff are very approachable and offer excellent advice form where to go ,eat and taxi ordering. The room was clean and the fruit on arrival is a good touch. Altogether an excellent base to explore Vienna.

A charming hotel, well located a 15 min walk from the centre of Vienna with public transport 5 mins away. The bathroom was small and the shower tiny, but for 3 nights it was OK. the service was excellent and the breakfast first class. Overall good value for money

Five star hotel at 3-star price. A bit more expensive than two small hotels I've stayed at in Vienna but vastly more roomy, comfortable, and with perhaps the finest breakfast buffet I've had. This one's a winner.

Approaching the property and indeed on entering at the Ground Floor level one wonders what they have come to, as it is spartan to say but the least. However upon making it to Reception on the 1st Floor everything changes and although Reception itself is modest, the quality of the staff and their desire to be helpful matches or exceeds the best 5 Star hotels I have stayed in. I would recommend this hotel to anyone . My particular room ( # 22) was pleasant and comfortable , if a little noisy and the bathroom although well equipped was small even by European standards but overall the experience was excellent and the hotel was well located for my business needs If they can do something to make the initial eimpression more welcoming there would be little else to suggest Giving a CD with a collection of Mozart upon checkout was a classy and thoughtful - and much appreciated - touch

We had an excellent experience at this hotel. The staff were wonderful and very accomodating. Everything was just right.... the rooms, the personal touches by the staff. I can't say enough of the Alstadt. If I went back to Vienna, I would definitely want to stay there again.

The hotel occupies roughly 75% of the building with another 25% set aside to an institute of pyschology. This results in a rather odd layout - the hotel being located in various rooms off the main staircase. To me at least, this lent the place a not wholly welcoming atmosphere, particuarly as the staircase is not heated. However, the rooms are spacious and the staff are pleasant.
