An ideal location. Literarally 2 minutes from St Stephen's cathedral and the pedestrianised shopping areas, the underground and hop on hop off bus. Across the road was an excellent cafe with superb cakes and also a very good restaurant. So,after a busy day, food is on your doorstep!Would definitely recommend to anyone and cannot wait to return.

We are elderly visitors on a first visit to Vienna (3 days only. Next time longer?!)
We were absolutely delighted with our choice of hotel (Chosen from Eye Witness Guide). The location is perfect for walking to places of interest and we found the staff to be pleasant and helpful at all times. The room we had,#14,is small but it did not matter because it was well and comfortably furnished, and it has a lovely outlook onto Neuermarkt Platz.
We would not hesitate to recommend the Hotel Pension Neuermarkt to our friends.
The only minor criticism we had was that on the first night we were disturbed by some guests in another room who came in late with a lot of laughter and loud voices.
Apart from that,in our view the Hotel is perfect for those like us who do not like large impersonal hotels.
During our stay the staff helped us to book a dinner and concert package (Imperial Orchestra) which was excellent.

I was tarvelling 3 days with my fiancé. We were looking for a place calm and in the historical center... Only to sleep after long days of walking & visiting... So we didn't expect the room to be very spacious... And we were right... The hotel is perfect for short stays... But not a good idea if you wish to spend your days in bed ;)

The Hotel Pension Neuer Markt is in an excellent location. It is steps from the Stephansplatz and the U-Bahn. There are shops, restaurants, and churches nearby. Our overall experience was excellent. Our only problem was the taxi. We were literally "taken for a ride." Unfortunately it was night time and we couldn't enjoy the sights!

Travelled with my husband for visit to the Opera. As I expected snow wanted to be near it. There was snow but only a little. We had a very nice room overlooking the square. We arranged a transfer from the airport as I have mobility problems (they do have a lift). I paid the driver but apparently I learnt on leaving I should have paid at reception as it was on the bill. There was no problem and the cost was taken off the bill.

The location of the hotel was spot on - two minutes walk to the cathedral and city centre. There were plenty of lovely restaurants and cafes within 5 minutes walk and the architecture of Vienna is breathtaking. If we ever visit Vienna again we will stay at this Hotel, it was a fantastic place.

All I can say about the Pension Neuer Markt is that it had everything I needed for my stay. It was very clean and warm, the location couldn't be better, all the staff were very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend it and I would definately stay there again. My overall experience was very pleasent and relaxing.

We had a sitting room/bedroom with ample closet space, tv, phone, bathroom. We had arranged with Hotel Pension Neuer Markt to be picked up at the airport and they were waiting for us after we cleared customs. The service at the Pension was excellent. Employees were courteous and overall very pleasant. Breakfast was excellent. We were allowed to store our luggage on the last day as we did not leave until 7pm. Internet access was available at the pension. We would definitely stay there again.

The only downside is there being no comfortable lounge area which we expected in relation to the cost of the room. The airport transfers were exellent, with almost a city guide and information, full marks !!! to the driver

Perfect Location - cannot beat the location aspect of it for the low price. The rooms were very small yet, we didnt care cos we were out all day and all we needed was a clean bed when we returned. worked out perfect.

There should be an additional option for the question - would you return to this hotel? - "maybe". At this stage I am not sure if I would return or if I would recommend it. The location is excellent, but the room was very noisy and having a toilet outside is a major inconvenience... I would certainly never stay in the same room.

Nice small pension very well located in the heart of Vienna. Rooms was small but clean and tidy and enough fora small week-end in Vienna. Personel was competent and helpful. Breakfast buffet was gorgeous. We will for sure come back.

We have a house in the "Steiermark" and go there approx. 3x per year. Usually, we take the car with us (by train), but never went there during winter time. As we got a very attractive flight offer from Zurich to Vienna, we took the chance and flew to Vienne and decided to spend at 1,5 days in Vienna. We knew the hotel from earlier stays and found it always very good (well located, nice staff etc.).

The location of this place was practically perfect, right next to the city centre and 20 seconds from the underground! Overall a great place to see Vienna from and staff at the hotel were first class!

You cant beat the location of the hotel or the customer service. However, the beds are hard, the rooms are small and the showers are waist high. Good for single people traveling across Europe, wouldnt recommend as a 4 star hotel though.

This property turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The location is fantastic but the building is a bit grim, with a dingy and unwelcoming entrance hall. To gain entry you have to use the intercom, and then take the lift to the 3rd floor. The interior of the pension is garish and institutional - it looks like the walls have been covered in formica, with gold trim and chintzy lights to complete the effect. The staff were very friendly and helpful on check-in. The room itself was spacious but quite basic - two old wooden beds, a couple of armchairs and a portable television. The bathroom was small but quite acceptable. The biggest disappointment was breakfast - plentiful, but not particularly high quality, and served in a gloomy, cramped area alongside the reception. Nothing about it made us want to linger longer than necessary. Overall, this is a reasonably-priced property in an excellent location but does not have much else that can be recommended.

An older establishment, the room was surprisingly large and spacious; the location is wonderful - a quiet side street just off the main old downtown walking street. I traveled as a single woman and felt perfectly safe. Very close to antiques shopping, too (bonus!). Very easy access to everything, and I felt well cared for as a guest of this pensione. My first experience with a pensione rather than a hotel, and it was not fancy, but was just fine. I would recommend this one to those who aren't so concerned with luxury, but want a nice spacious place to stay in Vienna. Nice staff.

The price will seem a little high for the room you are getting, but in Vienna it is all about location and the location of the Neuer Markt is fantastic. Could not have asked for a better location. The room was a dated and showed wear, but it was clean the the employees were fantastic. Would certainly stay here again.

We stayed 3 nights in Vienna for pleasure. The entrance was not easliy located and the check-in was on the 3rd floor. Great location, a little noisy at night and in the morning, but overall a very nice place to stay.

The rooms in this hotel were tiny. The location is excellent but that is about all teh hotel has in its favour. The corridors are too narrow for two people with bags to pass each other on. There isn't enough room to bend down in teh shower. We also found cigarette ash on our bed linen. The staff are helpful and good with advice on places to see. The cold meats at breakfast aare nice but the coffee is vile. I would only recommend this place for a one night stay if you had to be right in teh middle of teh city. If you have luggage for more than one night the bedroom would be crowded.

My wife and I stayed at Pension Neuer Markt on recommendation of Venere.com. We were more disappointed than this review can communicate.
The pension's location is the best thing I can say, but there are many other accomodations in the area that are cleaner, larger and provide better services.
The room we were given was outdated and uninspiring. It was extreamly small and the door barely opened before it hit the side of the 2 twin beds pushed together. No airconditioning. Our room windows opened to an atrium. Our view: into someone else's room. No air circulation. Luckily we checked in during while other rooms were being cleaned, and the maid gave us a fan. Without it, I would have checked out after the first night.
The walls were paper thin and you could hear the couple in the next room talking. You could feel the vibration in the floor as people walked by the room.
The bathroom was clean, although very small.
This is not a place to stay if you want to enjoy Vienna. While we were out touring the city, I dreaded our return to this pension. That's not the way to have a vacation.
The breakfast was adequate if you like bread and cereal. There was cold meat and cheese and canned fruit, no fresh fruit or vegetables. The coffee was pretty decent.

Great location right off the main square. Room was tiny, but that was to be expected. The only complaint was that during a heat wave in Vienna, we had the windows open and there was NO cross breeze/air and it was almost impossible to sleep. We didn't expect A/C of course - but a breeze would have been nice. Also, if your room is off the breakfast area, you might get a bit of the smokiness drifting in.

Globally, we are happy whith this hotel.
One black point is the noise. We hear everything from one room to another one. TV sound in the rooms is not automatically limited. First night, it has been impossible to sleep before 3am.

The rooms are a little small and it is a bit of a pain having to go out of your room to the toilet (there is a shower in the room though) but they are adequate enough and if you're paying around 80 Euros for a room in the heart of Vienna you can't complain too much about such things and you definitely ought not be expecting much more! The location is fantastic - a few steps to Stephansdom and the Graben. The breakfast is adequate - meats and cheeses, cereals and tinned fruits, but the staff will make you coffee and eggs if you ask. The reception desk speak good English. There is a bit of a smokey smell in the hotel and the decor is an odd faded pink colour but again, it's 80 Euros in the heart of Vienna - if you're expecting the Ritz you're dreaming! Perfectly, perfectly fine.

We arranged to be picked up at the airport by the hotel which was only 10E per person. They were waiting for us at the airport and from then on everything was perfect. The rooms are a little dated and could do with some freshening up but other than that this hotel is highly recommended. The location is perfect. We only had 3 days but managed to cover most of Vienna on foot. The hotel is right in the middle of everything and the staff were so friendly and incredibly helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

We found the staff at the hotel to be very friendly and accomodating. However, our room had an interesting smell and the bed was VERY HARD and uncomfortable. While we had a nice view, because it overlooked a busy street it was quite noisy and we could hear people in other rooms as well. The electrical outlet in our watercloset did not function, but the hotel was able to provide a hairdryer (that was nice). The pillows were a complete waste, there was no FLUFF to them. While we enjoyed the location and the people, we found the room itself to be less than satisfactory.

Old, nice, very central. Literally around the corner from Stephansdom and Metro Red LIne. About 2 blocks from the Hofburg. We initially stayed one night(March 19, 2006), booked jsut a few days in advance. Our DBL had no W/C but a sink and shower(as was quoted, due to availability.) It was very quiet--the window opened out to a courtyard.
Our second stay(March 23/24) was in a large DBL, with W/C, shower, sink, had two large windows and a balcony overlooking the Neuer Markt. Staff were extremely helpful when we needed train schedules and tram/metro help. Bfast was the typical European variety: meats, cheeses, rolls/bread, cereals, beverages.
No weird surprises other than the size of the room's safe--tiny.
