It was my 4.th visit to Rome and I stayed there a whole week. The location was perfect. Best way to get there: Corso Vitor Emanuel (2 fermata), Campo de´fiori, palazzo Spada.N.21 is in the inside corner. To the T0...52 steps! If you stay a few days ask for more towels...

Upon arrival, we felt like victims of a scam. The proprietor demanded cash upfront for our three night stay. No credit cards, although the Web site mentions credit cards are acceptable. Also, the Web site mentions breakfast is offered at this site. It is not. Our experience was disappointing.

I will recommend to hire a flat such like this instead of using hotels in Rome. The surroundings around Campo de Fiore are absolutely one of the best i Rome and you can in a few minutes reach all the attractions and not at least buses and trams which can bring you everywhere in Rome. The kitchen facilities is enough to prepare breakfast with caffe latte and small meals (to gas flames). The bath was clean and spacious enough. We were received on time in a very friendly way. I will also recommend the restaurant in the ground floor (Via delle Grotte). It has good food and a nice atmosphere with mostly italian customers. (You will probably hear some noise from it in the evening, and that is easy to accept when you have been there ;-) ) Oppsite the restaurant there is a Internet and phone center, so the small flat in Capo de Ferro is in all ways a practical place to stay.

We were given the studio on the top floor, 51 steps. We called in advance, as requested, to ensure we would be met. Got friendly help carrying our luggage up and finding an ATM for cash to pay in advance. Organized our own departure. Give the taxi these directions: "Galeria Spada". But if your luck is like ours, the driver will only understand Palazzo Farnese; insist that he drop you at the far corner, closest to Capo Di Ferro. The Palazzo Spada is on the opposite side of the plaza; the stairway entrance to the property is to the right of the lactating fountain. Kitchen stove was big enough to brew morning coffee in a mini Italian maker - learn as you go. Small refrigerator, dishes, utensils, pots, were provided. But no staples and I wouldn't attempt real cooking. Picnicing on purchases from the morning market at Campo Di Fiore works well. Telephone shower is big enough to turn around in, but hot water tank is small. The restaurant downstairs, Da Guido, is a very good neighborhood joint. We only noticed the noise our first night (quiet by 11 pm).

We had a wonderful stay at the Capo di Ferro's Michelangelo apartment. The rooms are clean, secure and the beds are very comfortable. The couple who own the apartment were very friendly and helpful and can arrange various trips if you wish, although no pressure is put on you to do this and if you want to do your own exploring like we did then that's fine. You need to email the owners before arriving to arrange for someone to let you into the apartment when you do arrive as they do not live in the building. Further details and more photos can be found at www.romeby.com/capodiferro/pages/reach.htm. The location of the apartment is excellent - it's close to the wonderful Campo de Fiori and Piazza Farnese and many good bars and restaurants are very nearby. In fact the restaurant in the little street just below our window turned out to be really good and not at all expensive ( you can smell it from the room !!). As soon as you walk out of the apartment you are in the middle of the atmospheric and historic alleys, squares and churches of the old Ghetto and you are in easy walking distance of most of the best sites in Rome (Piazza Navona, The Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Coliseum, Campidoglio, Vatican etc). The nice thing about an apartment is that you can imagine that you are a native of the Rome just spending a few days kicking back and relaxing !! I would definitely recommend these apartments as a good base for exploring the Eternal City.
