The apartment was in an excellent location, the staff was great but not on-site full-time. The 2 significant drawbacks were the room did not smell clean because the bathroom shower curtain was old and mildew-scented and the sofa looked old with pen ink stains on it, and also the noise of traffic below was sometimes disruptive but with the a/c blowing, the noises outside were minimal. Overall, the location was good enough (directly next to the Duomo) that the stay was good.

If you want location, this is it! I chose a room without view, and was still very satisfied. The hotel is right in the center of Florence. I have already booked another reservation at Palazzo Gamba.

Great location. Fantastic view of Il Duomo within a stone's throw. Our apartment was on the 5th floor, so we didn't notice the noice as much as previous reviewers. No internet service, but we found an internet cafe 2 blocks away. Train station was 10 minute walk.

As a native Italian living in the USA, I travel to Italy several times a year with my family of 5 and on business. In July 2007 our family stayed two times at the Palazzo Gamba. The only problem we encountered was the noise level from the first floor apartment we were given during our 2nd stay. We did not have a problem at all during our 1st stay as the 1st apartment was higher up and faced the street on side of Duomo, plus it had one inner bedroom that was not on any street. The apartment we had during our 2nd stay was directly over a busy street (Via Martelli) and did not have sound proof windows. This led to 2 nights of no sleep due to noise of buses, street cleaners, cars, vespas, all night long. Although we asked to be moved to a different apartment, there were no vacancies. So only word of caution - ask for an apartment on high floor, not facing Via Martelli and with sound proof windows. Otherwise – beautiful apartments, simply equipped kitchen with dishwasher; bathrooms were small but clean, plenty of towels, great location.

This accomodation was within walking distance of the train station. We arrived after midday and were greeted by the reception. The location is AMAZING! THe duomo is situated right outside our bedroom windows! a spectacular view, but don't worry, the bells stop ringing at about 9pm til 6 or 7 am so it doesn't disturb our sleep! nothing is too far from this accomodation! leather market, fresh food market, etc! definately will stay there again!

I lived and worked in Florence 30 years ago. This was my first visit since, to meet old friends. The receptionist was rather cold and not in the least friendly. She mentioned straight away that we should pay before 7.30 the next night and leave by 10am(they charge you an extra day i.e.€180 if you are late out.The apartment was v.spacious and you could see the Duomo from the window.Negatives:lots of mosquitos(in mid Oct),impersonal(they give you a key as there's often no one at reception and its quite heavy to carry round)and mean service for the price. We got 1 bath towel each and if you want another within 4 days, you pay €10!.Finally, you need to walk away from here to eat/drink-as in all cities, the centre is a rip-off.We left here to go to Hotel Globus in San Lorenzo.Paid €120 per night for lovely, friendly, helpful service. It restored my faith in the Florence I remembered.

A wonderful stay - being restricted by fussy children we could eat what they wanted to eat (!) and once they were asleep, we could watch Florentine life in the Duomo square all evening. We were having a swift weekend break (Fri-Sun) and the hotel was convenient enough that we could go back to the hotel to use the bathroom! The rooms were a good size and beautifully decorated. Splendid.

We were 100% impressed by the whole accomodation, it was just as we expected from the information on the web -we found the customer reviews particularly helpful. The apartment -2 bed for 4 people was extemely clean and well equiped. It was compact but gave us all we needed for a family sight seeing holiday in Florence. The gentleman on the desk was incredibly helpful and spoke excellent English, he was able to accomodate our changed accomodation needs following a delay in our flight. We were able to leave our suitcases in reception after checking out of our room -saving us lugging them around with us all day as we had a late flight home. We were not bothered by the noise mentioned by others and loved being so close to the Duoma, although as it was late in the season and we didn't need the windows open at night. We would happily recommend Palazzo Gambo.

Excellent location; couldn't get any better. However could be quite noisy at night. Basic kitchen facilities are brilliant should you want to stay in and cook a meal with the excellent local produce. (Proximity to Mercato Centrale is nothing) Get Cristiano to give you recommendations for restaurants

The apartment was unexpectedly very spacious. Very quiet even if it is located in a busy area within the city. It is just across the street from the Duomo. It is an apartment with a fully equipped kitchen. The only problem is the shower room which is only about 1 square meter in space.

The location of this hotel cannot be beat. You can practically touch the Duomo from your window, and almost every other tourist destination in Florence is a 5-10 minute walk away at most. Cristiano at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. He even helped change our reservation when our plans changed, which we really appreciated. The young woman who worked the desk on Cristiano's days off was not as friendly or helpful, so there was a difference in level of service depending on the day. Having an apartment was nice. We didn't cook a lot (two burners didn't work anyway) but we bought breakfast foods and beverages and snacks to save a bit of cash. Our only major complaint was that the photographs showed apartments that were much prettier and brighter than the apartment we got (Verocchio). Ours was a bit dingy and smelled like stale cigarettes, so that was a disappointment. Since there are only a few apartments anyway, I think they should have pictures of each one so you know what you're getting for the price. I think other apartments were probably a better value for the steep price (although I understand location was a big factor). Ours was also very loud from street noise. There are tons of people walking around day and night, and we had to keep the windows open due to the cigarette smell, so it's a good thing we are heavy sleepers. That said, I would stay there again, but would request a different room.

We, my husband, adult daughter and her boyfriend, like to be in the middle of things. People-watching in the Duomo Square from our 2nd floor balcony was a treat! We could practically touch the Duomo and loved the bells. It is not a quiet location, but with the shutters and dual pane BEAUTIFUL floor to ceiling windows closed, the noise was not an issue. If you are super-sensitive ear plugs would do the trick. The 2nd floor has mostly 2 bedrooms, one 1 bedroom I believe. We didn't venture to the higher floors, but from the outside you could see they did not have the same gorgeous windows that we enjoyed. The staff, the location, the character and the amenities were all superb and made our first stop in Italy unforgettable. PS. Florence is very crowded and very expensive. Good meals were found at bettre prices in the Oltarno. A great salad Rustica at an outdorr tourist haunt on the right side of Santa Croce sq. That was one of our best meals in Italy.

One of the best locations, value and spaciousness we've ever stayed in in Venice. I'm amazed they EVER have rooms. The two bedroom unit had balconies on 2 sides..."spitting" distance from the Duomo. We much have had a hundred tourists take our pictures while we sat on the balcony admiring the view (hard to photograph the Dumo from the south without including the balcony!) GREAT deal...GREATER choice!!

We had a very large 2 bedroom apartment. Bathrooms were a little smelly - we sprayed with lots of perfume ! Gentleman at front desk was very helpful. Our GPS could not locate the hotel so it took us a while to find it. Parking was 25 euro in a local garage as expected. We overlooked the Duomo which was amazing - but it was noisy one night. But this was my kids favourite place due to the size of the rooms and the view of the Duomo.

We opened our windows and were looking at the most beautiful view of the Duomo and the Baptistry. The location could not have been better. The room was spacious. It was noisy at night until about 11:00 pm. Overall, amazing value. We would definately stay there again. We had a change of plans as we arrived in Florence which caused us to be late but they were kind enough to arrange to leave our key with someone.

I have been travelling to Italy since I was 2 years old and more specifically, Florence since I was barely older. I have never been as pleased with an accomodation as I was with Palazzo Gamba. The location was UNBEATABLE and the particular room we had was like living in a postcard. We opened our balcony to see the Duomo and Baptistery and the first site of it left me absolutely breathless. All night long young people socialized and sang in the piazza. The view and the bustle were uniquely Florence. I realize that there are those who complain about the noise, I find it to be rather exhilerating. The apartment is within walking distance of the Palazzo Vecchio, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Duomo, Baptistery, train station and many, many other attractions. The interior of the apartment was amazingly clean with incredibly high ceilings. I would stay here again without a second thought .. as a matter of fact, I don't believe I will ever stay anywhere else.

Palazzo Gamba has excellent apartments right in the middle of the historic centre of Firenze. The view from the Giotto apartment (6th floor) is absolutely amazing, the Duomo and Battistero as neighbours. The Campanello kept some noise with its churchbells, but that didn't bother, actually it was quite charming. The bells could disturb light sleepers, though. It was less than 10 min walk to the Piazza della Signorina, and about 10 min to the Ponte Vecchio. The shopping streets are also nearby. In the first floor of the building is a nice cafe offering lovely variety of coffees and, sandwiches and sweet goodies. We really enjoyed the 4-night-stay in the heart of Firenze.

A beautiful building and our apartment (2bed/2bath)was beautiful. The directions to the place could be better because it took us about an hour to find it. Since it's so close to the Duomo, while it was convenient, it was also really noisy all day and night.

We arrived late in Florence after an all day train strike in Italy and Cristiano made arrangements for us to collect the keys from a nearby restaurant. Truly appreciate that!! On arrival, we found the apartment well furnished, clean, classy and in a great location. The apartment was next to the Duomo and near to all attractions in Florence. Supermarket was just 5 minutes away and there is a good self service restaurant below us on the ground floor. The Uffizi and Accademia was just a 10 minute walk. We made a day trip to Pisa by train. Also booked a day trip tour to Siena through Cristiano. We enjoyed our 5 night stay in Florence and recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Florence.

Fantastic property right in the heart of Florence. Apartment was better then we expected and had all the kitchen equipment needed to be able to eat in for any meal. View of the Duomo square was amazing. We were there for Easter Sunday and the famous "Explosion of the Cart" was right out our window. Incredible! The on-site staff person, Katerina, was friendly, extremely helpful and knowledgable. We would return again. Ask for the Raphaello apartment and you will have a balcony overlooking the square.

Wonderful location right next to the Duomo. The only hitch being you heard the bells ringing loudly & frequently but the location was ideal for siteseeing. Pretty spacious rooms and a gracious staff that arranged to leave our key at the bar when we couldn't arrive in time.

We are a family of 4 with 2 teenagers. We loved our 2 bedroom/2 bath apt. It is across from and has a view of the Duomo, and is located near all the key sites of Florence. The apt. was very clean and well appointed. The only drawback was that 2 of the four surface units of the stove did not work. An excellent and highly recommended place to stay.

The view from the balconies of the penthouse suite is breathtaking. Yes, balconies. From one side you see the Duomo and the other, you get to overlook the city. There was a washer and dishwasher available with a full kitchen for your use. The nearest market is a few blocks away, but close enough to buy groceries and walk them back. Location-wise, it was within walking distance to everything like the Accademia and the Uffizi. The penthouse suite can comfortably six people, as there are three bedrooms.

We were suprised by how much room we had and the way the rooms were decorated. The street noise is loud because we were right on the square, but that is part of the thrill! Earplugs solved the problem. The central location to all things was great. I would like to have had a little packet of coffee and a coffee maker since there was a little kitchen. It doesn't seem to be the tradition in Italy anywhere, but I think it would be a great addition for most foreign travelers.

Very convienient. Nice view of the square. A little noisy in the late evening (up to about 11:30 pm). There are 2 "supermarkets" within a 5-7 minute walk for shopping (which can save a lot over street prices). There is a self service laundry about the same distance. The Gelato shop across the street (I think it is call "Very Good Gelato")is way over priced. Walk a few blocks toward the river and go to "Festival of Gelato" for 1/2 the price. You can walk to the hotel from the train station in about 10 minutes. You can walk to anyplace in Florence on the same side of the river in 20 minutes or less so no need for cabs or buses in general (except to go to Piazalle Michaelangelo across the Arno).Great place and would not hesitate to stay again.Don't forget to haggle over pricey things in shops they will negotiate!
